Subject: Parts of a Computer Grade Level: Fourth Year College

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Identify the key parts of a computer (internal and external).
 Understand the functions of each part.
 Explain how the different components work together to make a computer operate.
 Differentiate between input, output, and storage devices.

Before we start our discussion, I will show you

1. Internal Components of a Computer


(15 minutes):
o Motherboard: Explain that it is
the main circuit board and the
"heart" of the computer. All
components connect to it.
o CPU (Central Processing Unit):
Describe the CPU as the "brain"
of the computer that processes
instructions.
o RAM (Random Access
Memory): Discuss how RAM
temporarily stores data that the
CPU needs while the computer is
running.
o Storage (Hard Drive/SSD):
Explain the difference between
HDD and SSD, which store long-
term data like files and the
operating system.
o Power Supply Unit (PSU):
Briefly explain that it converts
electricity from an outlet into
power usable by the computer.

Activity (5 minutes):

o Display a labeled diagram of the


internal components of a
computer on the projector.
o Ask students to pair up and
discuss which components they
think are the most important and
why.
2. External Components of a Computer
(15 minutes):
o Monitor: Describe as the output
device that displays visuals and
information.
o Keyboard: Explain its role as an
input device for typing
commands.
o Mouse: Another input device,
used to navigate and interact with
the computer.
o Speakers: Output device that
allows the computer to produce
sound.
o Printer: Output device for
producing a hard copy of
documents or images.
o External Storage (USB,
External Hard Drive): Used to
store files externally and transfer
data between devices.
