6.6 Foundation Worksheet

The worksheet discusses actions to combat global warming, emphasizing that while we cannot stop it entirely, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is crucial. It outlines the need to limit temperature rise and achieve carbon neutrality by specific target years. Various solutions such as renewable energy projects and electric vehicles are highlighted as ways to address the issue.

6.6 What can we do?

Name ____________________________________________________ Class _________

1 The information below explains what we can do about global warming. Fill in the
gaps using the words from the box at the bottom of the page.
We cannot stop global warming. Even if we stopped all greenhouse gas emissions

now, there is a __________. The warming from recent emissions will not show up for

years. The _______we cut emissions now, the better our chances of surviving and

coping in the future. Our best hope is to limit the temperature rise by the end of this

century to ____°C above the average for 1850 – 1900. To do this, we must cut

emissions of carbon dioxide heavily by _____ and be carbon neutral by _____.

At the same time, we need to prepare for a ________ future. Most countries have

set targets to limit carbon dioxide emissions. It’s not easy, because the world is

addicted to _____________. But everyone can do something, even if it’s only

switching the light off in an empty room.

Around the world, people are working on projects to cut greenhouse gas

__________. For example:

• wind farms, which generate _____________ from the wind

• ________ farms, which generate electricity from sunlight

• wave and tidal power plants, which generate electricity from waves and ________

• electric cars and other vehicles that run on ___________ (ideally charged by

renewable energy)

• artificial meat ‘grown’ in __________, tasting like real meat

Over time, we’ll develop other solutions too. But the key thing is this: we must cut

emissions ______.

faster fossil fuels 2050 tides fast 1.5

emissions warmer electricity factories time lag
solar 2030 batteries
