Work with PowerPoint 2016
Key concepts:
• Microsoft PowerPoint 2016 is a presentation program that
produces dynamic and powerful slide shows containing
movies, sounds, text, graphics, and charts. You can use
PowerPoint for formal and informal presentations and
meetings, as well as for presentations on the Internet.
• The new user interface in PowerPoint 2016 makes creating,
presenting, and sharing presentations simpler and more
intuitive. With use of the new Ribbon, tabs, and galleries,
PowerPoint 2016 groups common tasks together in the
same place.

Starting Microsoft PowerPoint 2016
To start the application do
the following.
1. Click on Start
2. Scroll down to Microsoft
Office 2016
3. Click on Microsoft Office

4. Select PowerPoint 2016
from the Submenu

To open a new PowerPoint 2016 Presentation do the following:
• Select the Blank Presentation from the list of templates.

Using the Quick Access Toolbar
Steps:
1. Click the Customize Quick Access Toolbar arrow.

2. Select the Show Below the Ribbon option.

Setting PowerPoint Options
Steps:
1. Click the FILE tab

2. In the Backstage view, click Options

3. In the General category of the PowerPoint Options dialog box, click in


the User Name box under Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office and
type your name.

4. Click in the Initials box and type your initials.


5. Click OK to apply the changes.

Setting the Default Save Folder
Steps:
1. Click the FILE tab

2. In the Backstage view, click Options


3. In the PowerPoint Options dialog box, click the Save option on the left
pane.
4. Under Save presentations, in the Default local file location box, type in
the location path of the folder and click OK.

Using Help
• You can always use the Help feature to access more information.
Steps:
1. Click the Help button from top right corner.

2. Type insert picture and press [Enter].

Exiting PowerPoint 2016
• To exit PowerPoint:
1. Click the Close button (X) in the upper-right corner of the
PowerPoint 2016 program window.

2. Click the PowerPoint Application icon in the top left corner of the
PowerPoint 2016 program window and click Close.

Entering Text in a Presentation
Key concepts:
• You can add text to the Text Placeholders, Text
Boxes, and Shapes. The Title Text placeholder is
represented by the dotted border.
• When entering text into text placeholders, it is
important to recognise good practice when doing so.
This includes:
• Using short, concise phrases
• Using bullet points
• Using numbered lists.

Steps:
1. Click the FILE tab
2. In the Backstage View, click the New button
3. Choose the Blank presentation option.

1. Create a new Blank Presentation.
2. Click the Title Text placeholder.
3. Type Worldwide Telephony Trading.

4. Click outside the Title Text Placeholder to deselect it.

3. Select Computer to choose the location.

Steps:
1. Click the FILE tab
2. In the Backstage view, click the Save As button
3. Select Computer to choose the location.

4. Choose a folder under Computer or click Browse.

Insert a Graphical Object into a Master Slide

Steps:
1. Create a new Blank Presentation.
2. In the VIEW tab, click the Slide Master button in the Master Views group.

3. In the INSERT tab, click the Pictures button in the Images group.

Steps:
4. Navigate to the Student Folder and insert the monkey-key image.

5. Resize and reposition the image as shown above.


6. Close the Presentation without saving.

Insert a Drawn Object into a Master Slide
Steps:
1. Create a new Blank Presentation.
2. In the VIEW tab, click the Slide Master button in the Master Views group.

3. In the INSERT tab, click the Shapes button in the Illustrations group.
4. Select the Rectangle under Recently Used Shapes or Rectangles.

1. In the VIEW tab, click the Slide Master button in the Master Views group.

2. In the DESIGN tab, select the Facet Theme in the Themes group.
