Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

A. CONTENT STANDARDS:
The learners should have knowledge and understanding of the
solution of simple equations.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
By the end of the the quarter, the learners are able to solve simple
equations.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCY:

The students add and subtract integers, using concrete models(e.g.,

counters,integers chips),pictorial models(e.g., bar models,number
lines),and with integers written as numerals.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. understand that each part of the bar represents a different
quantity, and the total length of the bar represents the sum of
all parts,
b. distinguish between the known quantities and the unknown
quantity in a bar model,and
c. apply bar models to solve real-word problems involving simple
equations.

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic:Solving equations using bar models

A. References: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yahMggsPrbU
B. Materials: Visual aids, and chalk
C. Skills to Developed: Solving and analyzing
D. Values Integration: Participation and self-confidence
III. Procedure

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
a. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning, Sir!

b. Opening Prayer
Everybody, please stand up and let
us pray.
(Teacher will call a student to lead (The students will pray.)
the prayer)

c. Classroom Management
Before you may sit, kindly pick up
the pieces of dirt under your chair
and arrange your chair properly. (The students will follow)

d. Checking of Attendance
Class Secretary, who are the (The class secretary will
absent for today?
tell the absentees.)
Thank you!

e. Checking of Assignment
Class, do we have an assignment? None Sir!

f. Recall
Before we proceed to our new
lesson, can someone tell me, what
was our last topic all about?
Sir,its all about Evaluating

algebraic expression.
hand)

Very good class! It seems that you

remembered our lesson. Let’s
proceed.

g. Motivation
“ARRANGE ME”
Directions:Re- arrange the jumbled letters
to forms the word that are essential to our
topic today.

BAR MODEL

B. LESSON PROPER
Our topic for today is all about,
Solving equations using bar models.

What is equation?
Sir,it is a mathematical
Okay very good,so when we say statement that shows that two
equation it is a mathematical expressions are equal.
statement that shows that two
expressions are equal.
How about solving equation?

Okay very good,,solving an equation Sir,solving an equation

means finding the value of the unknown means finding the value
that makes the equation true. of the unknown that
makes the equation true.
For example is x+5=5

=(2)+3=5

5=5

Do you understand class?

Okay very good, now lets identify what is

bar model. Yes sir,

When we say bar model it is a tool that

helps us visualize the given math problem 0kay sir!
using rectangles or bar.

Examples:

1.x+6=10

Check: x+6=10 solution:

4+6=10 x=4

10=10

2. 2x+5=9
Check: 2x+5=9 solution:

2(2)+5=-9 x=2

4+5=9

9=9

3. x-7=13

Check: x-7=13 solution:

20-7=13 x=20

13=13

4. 3x-2=7

Check: 3x-2=7 solution:

3(3)-2=7 x=7 (students are listening to

the discussion)
9-2=7

7=7

5. 2x+4=x+5

Check: 2x+4=x+5 solution:

2(1)+4=(1)+5 x=6

2+4=1+5

6=6

6. 3x-1=2x+4
Check: 3x-1=2x+4 solution:

3(5)-1=2(5)+4 x=5

15-1=10+4

14=14

Did you learned about our topic

today class?

Are you sure ?so do you have any

question about our topic today?
Yes sir

Okay,so I think you understand well

our topic so lets continue. None sir

C. Generalization

What are your important

learning's you acquired class from
our discussion?

(Call 2 students who raised their

hand.)

I learned that bar model

helps us visualize the given
problem using rectangles and
Very good, Another answer? bars.

I learned that it is easy to

solve the algebraic equation
when we use the bar model
method.
Are there any questions?
Clarifications?
D. Application None sir!

Activity: “Its Bar Time”

Complete the table below finding the
value of the unknown using bar method.

Equation Bar Method Value of the

Unknown

x + 8= 15 x=7

1. 5 + x =
10 (Students answering)

2. 2x + 10
= 30

3. 2x - 5 =
13

4. 2x + 12
= 28

5. 3x - 4 =
2x + 5

Are you done class?

Congrats every one, specially to those who

got the highest score! I hope that you have
learned a lot to our discussion today. Its
there any question?
Yes sir,

None sir,
IV. Evaluation:
Directions: Solve the following expressions using the bar
model/method.
Test I.
1. x + 6 = 9
2. 4x + 6 = 11
3. 2x - 3 = 5
4. 5x + 20 = 35
5. 3x + 4 = 19
Test II.
Directions: Identify the following question.(5pts each)

1. It is a mathematical statement that shows that two expressions are equal.

2. Finding the value of the unknown that makes the equation true.

V. Assignment:
Directions: Use the bar method to find the value of unknown variables.

Equation Bar method Value of the Unknown

1. 2x + 4 = 6
2. 3a - 5 = 25
3. x - 4 = 9
4. 2a + 5 = a + 12
5. 3b + 7 = x + 13
