5.

4 GRAPHS OF LINEAR FUCTIONS

Learning Objectives:
In this lesson, students will be able to:

a) Plot table of values and graphs of a linear function.

KNOWLEDGE CHECK
input output
A function relates an ___________ to an _____________

x
An input is define as ___________

y
An output is define as ___________

function machine
A function can be represented using_____________________
LINEAR FUNCTIONS
Besides function machine, a function can also be
represented using an equation, a table or a graph.

Example: an equation

y=x+2
this means that if x=1,
then y=3.
if x=1, then
y=1 + 2
y=3
LINEAR FUNCTIONS
Example: linear function in a table to find the coordinates.
y=x+2

x -2 -1 0 1 2 3

y 0 1 2 3 4 5

(x,y) (-2,0) (-1,1) (0,2) (1,3) (2,4) (3,5)

LINEAR FUNCTIONS
Example: linear function in a graph. Now we plot it.

you must always use a

ruler to draw straight
line. No sketching.
