A Narrative Report - Hots
In reference to Regional Memorandum No. 391,s . 2023, titled “ Regional Training of Trainers
on Higher Order Thinking Skills Professional Learning Packages(HOTS-PLPs)”, and in line with
the implementation of DepEd Quezon’s Project Kalilayan and CID’s Project SHINE, the Division
conducted echo- training for Public Schools District Supervisors and School Heads last
December 9-13,2024 at M.I. Sevilla’s farm and Resort, Domoit, Lucena City.
The rollout of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and the accompanying Learning
Package was conducted with the primary goal of enhancing educators’ and students’ cognitive
abilities, fostering critical thinking, and promoting a deeper understanding of various subject
matter. This initiative was designed to equip educators with the tools necessary to implement
HOTS strategies in their classrooms and provide students with learning experiences that
encourage analytical, evaluative, and creative thinking.
HOTS and Learning Package rollout, which took place over a series of sessions aimed at
improving teaching effectiveness and student engagement in educational institutions.
The following objectives were achieved:
1. Familiarization with HOTS: Introduced the concept of HOTS and its significance in
modern education.
2. Training in HOTS Strategies: Supervisors and School heads trained on effective
techniques and strategies to promote higher-order thinking in students.
3. Distribution of Learning Package: Provision of a comprehensive learning package
containing teaching resources and tools for integrating HOTS into the curriculum.
4. Development of Learning Package: Designed Learning package, containing instructional
materials, lesson plans, activity sheets, and resources to aid teachers in implementing
HOTS-based lessons.
5. Logistics: Venues, schedules, and participant materials were organized resulting to
smooth rollout process.
The initiative began with an orientation session that introduced the concept of HOTS, its
importance in fostering a learner-centered approach, and its connection to 21st-century skills.
Participants were engaged in discussions about the current challenges in education and the
need for enhancing cognitive skills beyond rote memorization.
During the workshops, educators were introduced to a variety of HOTS activities and
exercises. These included brainstorming sessions, problem-solving tasks, case studies, and
debates.
Training participants worked in groups to develop lesson plans that incorporated HOTS
strategies, using the Learning Package as a guide.
