Section I (20 Marks)

(Each question in this section is worth 1 mark.)

1. Write the numeral for four hundred and fifty-seven thousand, eight hundred and
twenty-three.

o Answer: 457,823

2. Write the value of the underlined digit: 756,231.

o The underlined digit is 7. Its value is 700,000.

3. What is the highest common factor (HCF) of 24 and 36?

o Prime factorization:

▪ 24 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3

▪ 36 = 2 × 2 × 3 × 3

o Common factors: 2 × 2 × 3 = 12

o Answer: 12

4. Insert the correct symbol (> , < , =) to complete: 543,219 ___ 543,912.

o 543,219 < 543,912

5. What is 3/4 as a decimal?

o 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75

6. Solve: 18% of 450.


o (18/100) × 450 = 81

7. What is the missing number in the pattern: 45, 38, 31, ___, 17?

o 31 - 7 = 24

8. The length of a pencil is 12.7 cm. Round it to the nearest cm.

11. Convert 4.75 m to cm.

o 4.75 × 100 = 475 cm

12. A bottle holds 1.2 L of juice. How many 200 mL cups can be filled?

o 1.2 L = 1200 mL

o 1200 ÷ 200 = 6 cups

13. A shopkeeper buys a toy for $65 and sells it for $85. What is the profit?

o Profit = Selling Price - Cost Price

o 85 - 65 = $20

14. Solve for x: 5x - 8 = 32.

o 5x = 32 + 8

o 5x = 40

o x = 40 ÷ 5 = 8
15. Find the perimeter of a square with side length 9 cm.

o Perimeter = 4 × side

o 4 × 9 = 36 cm

16. In a class of 40 students, 25% wear glasses. How many students wear glasses?

o (25/100) × 40 = 10 students

17. A shape has a perimeter of 24 cm and is divided into 3 equal parts. What is the length
of each part?

o 24 ÷ 3 = 8 cm

18. What is the mean of the numbers: 15, 18, 20, 22, and 25?

o Mean = (Sum of values) ÷ (Number of values)

o (15 + 18 + 20 + 22 + 25) ÷ 5

o 100 ÷ 5 = 20

19. The price of a laptop is $2,500. It is discounted by 15%. What is the new price?

o Discount = 15% of 2500 = (15/100) × 2500 = 375

o New Price = 2500 - 375 = $2,125

20. A man walks 3 km each day for 7 days. How far does he walk in total?

o 3 × 7 = 21 km

21. Draw a pictograph where Farmer A picked 36 apples, with each icon representing 6
apples.

o Number of icons: 36 ÷ 6 = 6 icons

22. A baker makes cakes in a ratio of 3 chocolate to 5 vanilla. If he bakes 40 cakes, how
many are chocolate?

o Total parts = 3 + 5 = 8

o Chocolate cakes = (3/8) × 40 = 15 cakes


23. A container holds 2.5 kg of flour. If each bag contains 500 g, how many bags can be
filled?

o 2.5 kg = 2500 g

o 2500 ÷ 500 = 5 bags

24. The bar graph below shows students' favorite sports. If 12 chose Swimming, Cricket
had 3 fewer, and Basketball had 5 more, how many chose Football?

o Cricket = 12 - 3 = 9

o Basketball = 12 + 5 = 17

o Total students = Given number (e.g., 50) minus sum of other values.
