6.3 Load Definition - Trapezoidal Line Beam Load

This document outlines the process for defining a trapezoidal line beam load in a structural analysis context. It details the steps to select load types, specify load magnitudes, and apply the load across specified nodes. The procedure is aimed at ensuring an accurate trapezoidal distribution of load between two points on a beam.

3 Load Definition: Trapezoidal Line Beam Load

In this lesson let us attempt to define trapezoidal distribution of load. While Trapezoidal load
distribution can be defined under Element Beam load or Line Beam Load, we will be adopting the latter
method.

Under Element Selection, choose On the loading Line. This option allows the load to be trapezoid-ally
distributed between two points specified rather than on individual elements, and hence we chose to
adopt this method.

Direction of loading, we will specify as Global X, since we intend to apply horizontal load.

type 10 kN.

x2 =1, implies the load being applied on entire length between the points being specified. In case we
intend to load only half length then x2 would be equal to 0.5
