INTRODUCTION
Wireless power transmission using mutual inductance is a
technology that enables the transfer of electrical energy from a
power source to a load without the use of connecting wires. This
is achieved through the principles of mutual inductance and
electromagnetic induction.

Wireless power transfer offers several advantages, including

convenience (eliminating the need for physical connections),
safety (reducing the risk of electrical shock), and mobility
(enabling power delivery to moving devices). This report will detail
the components used, the working principle, the circuit diagram,
the experimental procedure, potential uses, conclusions, and
references
COMPONENTS USED

1) Battery

2) Battery cap

3) Insulated copper wire

4) Transistor

5) LED Bulb

6) Resistor
WORKING PRINCIPLE
When a current flows through a coil (called the primary coil), it
generates a change in magnetic field around it. If another coil
(secondary coil) is placed within this field, the changing magnetic
flux through the secondary coil induces an electromotive force
(EMF) according to Faraday’s Law of Induction. This induced EMF
causes a current to flow in the secondary coil, enabling wireless
power transfer.

Primary Coil Generation:

An AC power source is connected to a coil (the transmitter or

primary coil).

The AC current produces a varying magnetic field around the coil.

Mutual Induction with Secondary Coil:

If a receiver (secondary coil) is placed near the primary coil, the

magnetic field lines pass through it.

Due to mutual inductance, the changing magnetic flux in the

secondary coil induces a voltage (EMF).
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

The circuit consists of two main parts:

Transmitter Circuit (Top Section)
● A 1.5V AA battery powers the circuit.
● An NPN transistor is used to switch the current on and off
rapidly.
● A coil (inductor) is connected in series with the transistor.
● A 1kΩ resistor is used to control the base current of the
transistor.
When powered, the circuit oscillates, creating an alternating
current (AC) in the coil, which generates a changing magnetic field.
Receiver Circuit (Bottom Section)
● A secondary coil is placed near the transmitter coil.
● Due to mutual inductance, an AC voltage is induced in the
receiver coil.
PROCEDURE
1. Coil Construction:
● Make two coils out of copper wire.
● To allow for appropriate electrical contact, make sure you
remove the enamel coating from the wire at the connection
locations.

2. Receiver Circuit Assembly:

● LED Connection: Attach the LED with the correct polarity to

the first moveable coil.

3. Transistor Circuit Design and Powering the Circuit:

Take an NPN transistor

● Connect the 1kΩ resistor between the base of the transistor

and the coil
● Connect one end of the coil to the positive terminal of the
battery.
● Connect the other end of the coil to the collector of the
transistor
● Connect the emitter of the transistor to the negative terminal
of the battery.

4. Testing:
● Power the circuit by connecting the Slowly move the first coil
closer to and further away from the second coil . Observe the
LED's brightness as the distance between the coil’s changes.
USES
Wireless power transmission has numerous applications across
various industries:
● Charging Mobile Devices:
Smartphones, tablets, and other
portable devices can be charged
wirelessly using technologies like Qi.

● Powering Electric Vehicles: Wireless

charging pads can be used to charge
electric vehicles without the need for
cables.

● Medical Implants: Wireless power

transfer can provide energy to
implanted medical devices,
eliminating the need for batteries or
wired connections.

● Industrial Automation: Wireless

power can be used to power robots
and other automated equipment in
factories.

● Wireless Sensor Networks: Wireless

power can extend the lifespan of sensor networks by
providing a continuous power supply.
CONCLUSION
This project successfully demonstrated the principles of wireless
power transmission using mutual inductance. The objectives of
the project were met by constructing a working system and
observing the transfer of power from the transmitting coil to the
receiving coil. However, the efficiency of the current system is
relatively low, particularly at larger distances between the coils.

Potential improvements include using higher-quality components,

optimizing the coil design, and implementing more advanced
resonant control techniques. Future research directions could
focus on increasing power transfer efficiency, extending the
transmission distance, and developing more robust and reliable
wireless power transfer systems. Overcoming challenges related
to alignment sensitivity and electromagnetic interference is also
crucial for wider adoption.

This project provided valuable learning outcomes in the areas of

electromagnetism, circuit design, and practical electronics. The
challenges faced during the project, such as troubleshooting
circuit malfunctions, provided valuable problem-solving
experience.
