Doing a questionnaire in a survey" means creating a set of structured questions to gather

information from respondents through a survey, where each question is designed to elicit
specific data related to the research topic, allowing for analysis and interpretation of the results;
essentially, it's the process of designing the questions that people will answer within a survey to
Collect data.

WHAT IS A SURVEY?

A survey is a way to ask people questions to understand what they think, feel, or do. It's like
having a conversation with many people at once.
A survey is a research method used to collect information from a group of people to understand
their opinions, behaviour or experiences.

WHAT IS A QUESTIONNAIRE?
A questionnaire is a list of questions that we ask people in a survey. It's like a guide that helps us
get the information we need.
A questionnaire is a tool used in surveys to gather structured responses. When well-designed, a
questionnaire ensures accurate data collection, making research result more reliable.

Why are Questionnaires Important?

Questionnaires help us get accurate and reliable information from many people. It's like having a
tool that helps us understand what people really think.

Conducting a questionnaire in a survey involves creating a set of questions to collect data from a
respondent.

TYPES OF QUESTIONS
Open-ended questions: It allows respondents to provide detailed answers. They are useful for
qualitative insight but can be harder to analyze.
Closed-ended questions: It provide pre-defined answer options (e.g Multiple-choice, Likert
scale) they are easier to analyze quantitatively.
Rating Scale: Measures attitude or opinions (e.g 1-5 scale)
Ranking questions: Ask respondents to prioritize options.

Steps Involved in Conducting a Survey using a Questionnaire

*Step 1: Define the Survey Objectives

Before Designing a questionnaire, clearly outline:
Identify the purpose and goals of the survey.
What do you want to achieve with the survey?
What questions do you want to answer?
What questions do you want to collect?
The key questions for your research aim to answer.

Step 2: Identify the Target Population.

Determine who will participate in the survey.
Who is the target audience?
Understanding who will respond to the survey helps in framing relevant questions. Consider:
Demographics ( Age, gender, location etc)
Interests and behavior to the study.
What are their characteristics?

Step 3: Sampling
- Define the *target population*.
- Use sampling methods:
- Random Equal chance for all.
- *Stratified*: Ensure subgroup representation.

- *Convenience*: Easy-to-reach participants (less rigorous).

Step 4: Questionnaire Design.

-Create questions that align with the survey objectives.

What type of questions will you ask?
How will you phrase them?
Clear And Concise Language: Avoid ambiguity and technical jargon.
Logical Concise order: Group related questions together.
Avoid Leading Questions: Ensure questions are neutral and unbiased.

Step 4: Pilot-Test the Questionnaire

-Test the questionnaire with a small group to identify issues before administering it to the full
sample.
Is the questionnaire clear and concise?
Are the questions relevant?

Step 5: Administer the Survey.

-Distribute the questionnaire to the target population.
- How will you administer the survey? Online, offline, or both?
Online Survey: Use platforms like google forms, SurveyMonkey, or Typeform.
Paper-based surveys: Distribute questionnaires in person or via mail.
Telephone or Face-to-face interviews: Conduct survey phone or in person.

Step 6: Collect and Clean the Data

-Gather and prepare the data for analysis.
-How will you collect the data? How will you clean and preprocess it?

Step 7: Analyze the Data

-Use statistical methods to identify trends and patterns.
-What type of analysis will you conduct? Descriptive, inferential, or both?

Quantitative Analysis: Use statistical methods to analyze numerical data.

Quantitative Analysis: Analyze open-ended responses using techniques like coding and theme
identification.

Step 8: Interpret the Results

Draw conclusions based on the analysis.
-What do the results mean? What insights can you gain?

Step 9: Report the Findings

-Share the results with stakeholders.
How will you present the findings? In a report, presentation, or both?

Step 10: Evaluate the Survey

Assess the effectiveness of the survey and identify areas for improvement.
What worked well? What didn't?
By following these steps, you can conduct a successful survey using a questionnaire and gain
valuable insights into your target population.

Step 11: Anonymity and confidentiality.

-If application, reassure respondents about the anonymity of their responses, as this can
increase participation and honesty.

Step 12: Analyze and Revise:

- After conducting the survey, analyze the data and reflect on the questions to improve future
surveys.
Here are some examples of survey questions across different categories: Demographic
