ASSIGNMENT
UNIT #7
DATE
28 May 2024
INSTRUCTOR
Dr. Abhitosh Kedia

Task 1
2 tan θ
(i) To calculate 2 θ , we can use the double angle formula for tangent : tan 2 θ= 2
1−tan θ
(ii) To draw the graphs of tan 2ϴ and tanϴ, we can plot the values of ϴ and connect the
points to form the graphs.
(iii) To calculate tan 4ϴ, we can use the double angle formula for tangent twice:
2 tan θ
tanθ= 2
1−tan 2 θ
(iv)To calculate sin (A + B), we can use the sum formula for sine:
sin (A + B) = sin A cos B + cos A sin
(v) To calculate cos () θ
2
, we can use the half −angle formula for cosine :

cos ( θ2 )= √ 1−cosa
2

(vi)To calculate sin(a/2), we can use the half –angle formula for sine:
sin ()
a
2
=

1−cosa
2
Task 2
(i) TO FACTORIZE 3 x 2−12 x +9 , we can factor out common factor of 3 :
3 x 2−12 x +9=( x 2−4 x+ 3 ) .Then , we can further factorize thequadratic inside the parantheses :
3 ¿−1) (x-3)

(ii) TO FACTORISE3 sin2 θ+9 , we can factor out the common factor of 3 :
2
3 sin θ−12 sinθ+ 9=3 ¿
3(sinθ−1)(sinθ−3)
(iii) To solve the trigonometric equation
3 sin θ−12 sinθ+ 9=0∈interval [ 0 , 4 π ] , we can factorize the equation as we did ∈ part ( ii ) :3 ( sinθ−1 ) ( sinθ−
2

Solving these equations, we find: sinϴ = 1 or sin ϴ = 3. However, since the sine function
only takes values between -1 and 1, there are no solutions in the given interval [ 0 , 4 π ].

TASK 3
(i) FIND COS A – COS B FROM THE FOLLOWING TRIANGLE.
Given:
= Angle A = 60o
= Angle B = 40o
We need to find cos A−cos B
USING THE COSINE VALUES FOR THE GIVEN ANGLES:
1
= Cos 60o =
2
= Cos 40 is not a standard angle, so we will leave it in terms of Cos 40o.
o

1 o
= Thus, Cos A- Cos B = Cos 60o – Cos 40o = −cos 40
2
sin A
(ii) Express
sin B
C. INTO THE SUM OF TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS.
GIVEN.
= Angle A = 60o
= Angle B = 40o
= Angle C = 30o (since the sum of angles in a triangle is 180o –A –B = 180o – 60o – 40o =
80o
SinA
= We need to express ∈terms of the ∑ of trigonometric functions.
CosC
sin A 1
= Using the angle sum shows: = [sin ( A +C ) +sin( A−C)]
sin B 2
Substitute the given angles:
[A = 60o]
[C = 80o]

So, ¿
TASK 4
TO EXPRESS THE GIVEN EXPRESSION IN TERMS OF
tanθ , we can use the double angle identifies for sine∧cosine .
The double angle identity for sineis :sin 2 θ=2 sinθ cos θ
2 2
The double angle identity for cosine is :cos 2 θ=cos θ−sin θ
'
¿ t s substitute these identitiesinto the givenexpression :
tanθ tan 2 θ
( 1−sin 2 θ )= 2
cosθ cos θ−sin θ
2

Now, let’s express tan2ϴ in terms of tanϴ. We can use the double angle identity for tangent:
Substituting this into the expression:
2 tanθ
2
= 1−tan θ
2 2
¿
cos θ−sin θ
Simplify further:
2 tanθ
= (1−2 sinθcosθ)
( 1−tanθ ) ( cos 2 θ−sin2 θ )
2

Now, let’s express cos 2−sin2 θ=cos 2θ

Substituting this back into the expression:
2 tanθ
= =( 1−2 sinθcosθ )
( 1−tan2 θ ) ( cos 2θ )
Therefore, the given expression in terms of tanθ is :
2 tanθ
= ( 1−2 sinθcosθ )
( 1−tan2 θ ) ( cos 2θ )
