Circles (A & R)
10. CIRCLES
1. Assertion (A) : The length of the tangent PT drawn from an external point P to a circle is 24cm, If
the distance between the point P and the centre O of the circle is 25 cm, then the
length of diameter of the circle is 14 cm.
Reason (R) : A tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point of contact.
2. Assertion (A) : The base of an isosceles triangle is bisected at the point of contact of its incircle.
Reason (R) : The length of two tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are equal.
3. Assertion (A) : In the figure, if AT is tangent to the circle, with centre O, at point A such that
OT = 4 cm and ∠OTA = 30°, then AT = 4 3 cm.

A T
Reason (R) : A tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point of contact.
4. Assertion (A) : In the figure, O is the centre of a circle and PQ is a chord. If the tangent PR at P
makes an angle of 50° with PQ, then ∠POQ = 100°.
P R

5. Assertion (A) : The length of the tangent drawn from a point at a distance of 13 cm from the centre
of a circle of radius 5 cm is 10 cm.
Reason (R) : A tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point of contact.
6. Assertion (A) : A tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point of contact.
Reason (R) : The lengths of tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are equal.
7. Assertion (A) : In the figure, PA and PB are tangents drawn from an external point P to a circle
with centre O. If ∠APB = 80°, then ∠AOB = 100°
O P
Reason (R) : The angle between two tangents drawn from an external point to a circle is
supplementary to the angle subtended by the line segments joining the point of
contact at the centre.
8. Assertion (A) : If PA and PB are tangents drawn from an external point P to a circle with centre O,
then the quadrilateral AOBP is cyclic.
Reason (R) : The angle between two tangents drawn from an external point to a circle is
supplementary to the angle subtended by the line segments joining the point of
contact at the centre.
9. Assertion (A) : In the figure, PA and PB are tangents drawn from an external point P to a circle with
centre O such that ∠APB = 40°. If C is a point on the circle, then ∠ACB = 70°.
A
D
C O 40° P
Reason (R) : The lengths of tangents drawn from P to the circle are equal.
10. Assertion (A) : PA and PB are tangents to the circle centred at O and ∠OPA = 30°. Then, ΔPAB
is an equilateral triangle.

Reason (R) : The tangent drawn at any point of a circle is perpendicular to the radius through
the point of contact.
14. Assertion (A) : The tangents drawn at the end points of a diameter of a circle, are parallel.
Reason (R) : Diameter of a circle is the longest chord.
