Name: Date:

Worksheet: 10
Subject: Mathematics Topic: Chapter –Simple Equations

INTRODUCTION:
A mathematical equation which represents the relationship of two expressions on either side of the
sign. It mostly has one variable and equal to symbol. Example: 2x – 4 = 2.

LET’S REVISE :
1.A cricketer scores the following below runs in his eight innings: 58, 46, 76, 40, 35, 45,
0 and 100. Determine the mean score.
2. The marks out of 100 obtained by the group of students in the science test in their class are
85, 76,90, 56, 95, 85, 39, 48, 81 and 75.
Now Find the:
(a) Highest and lowest marks obtained by the students.
(b) Range of the marks obtained.
(c) Mean marks obtained by the student’s group.
3. The runs scored in the cricket match by the 11 players are as follows:
6, 15, 80, 120, 50, 100, 10, 15, 8, 10 and 15
Find the Mean, Mode and the Median of this data. Are these three same?
4. There are six marbles present in a box ranging with numbers from 1 to 6 marked on each
one of them. What is the major probability of drawing a marble with the number 2?

LET’S KNOW:

. 1. Solve the following equations:

A) 9m – 16 = 20 B) – 3(x + 2) = 12 C) 2y + 7 2 = 35 2 D) 5(2m – 2) =12
2. Each of the 2 equal sides of an isosceles triangle is twice as large as the third side. If the perimeter of
triangle is 30 cm. find the length of each equal sides of triangle.
3. The length of a rectangle is 3 units more than breadth and perimeter is 22 units. Find the length and breadth
of the rectangle.
4. In a class of 35 students, the number of girls is two fifth of the number of boys. Find the number of girls and
boys in the class
5. Convert the following statements into equations.
(a) 5 added to a number is 9.
(b) 3 subtracted from a number is equal to 12.
(c) 5 times a number decreased by 2 is 4.
(d) 2 times the sum of the number x and 7 is 13.
6. A number is 12 more than the other. Find the numbers if their sum is 48.
7. Twice the number decreased by 22 is 48. Find the number.
8. Seven times the number is 36 less than 10 times the number. Find the number.
9.(a) 4/5 of a number is more than 3/4 of the number by 5 . Find the number.
. (b) The sum of two consecutive even numbers is 38. Find the numbers.
10. The sum of three consecutive odd numbers is 51. Find the numbers.
11. Rene is 6 years older than her younger sister. After 1 0 years, the sum of their ages will be 50
years. Find their present ages.
12. The length of a rectangle is 10 m more than its breadth. If the perimeter of rectangle is 80 m, find
the dimensions of the rectangle.
13. A 300 m long wire is used to fence a rectangular plot whose length is twice its width. Find the
length and breadth of the plot.
14. The denominator of a fraction is greater than the numerator by 8. If the numerator is increased by
17 and denominator is decreased by 1, the number obtained is 3/2, find the fraction.
15. A sum of $2700 is to be given in the form of 63 prizes. If the prize is of either $100 or $25, find
the number of prizes of each type.
16. In a class of 42 students, the number of boys is 2/5 of the girls. Find the number of boys and girls
in the class.
LET’S CONSOLIDATE:
CASE STUDY

1.The teacher tells the class that the lowest marks obtained by a student in his class is half
the highest marks plus 5. The lowest score is 45. What is the highest score ?
. 1. Find the marks which is 20 more than the lowest:
. 2. Just to pass in the examination border line marks is just 12 less than the lowest marks obtained by
the student in the class. Write the required passing marks.
. 3. If one student Aavya of another class who scored 9 marks more than the doubled of lowest marks
of this class, find the aavya’s marks:
.4. Find the highest marks.
ASSERTION REASONING
For the given questions two statements are given- one labelled Assertion (A) and the other labelled
R , reason (R).
Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d) as given below.
Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
A is true but R is false.
A is false but R is true.
