SIGNAGE
This was a signage on a garden bench. It makes use of
visual hierarchy as well as it is written in what seems to be
a similar typeface but a different font. It is a readable and
legible font. This signage was readable from a distance of
10ft, the readability decreased a little at a distance of 15ft
and was unreadable at a distance of 30ft.
This was a signage outside an exhibition. When see from a
close distance, the message is clearly received because of
the font and weight. The block, capital letters give a sense
of order or obligated want. The letters are legible making
the text readable. It was clearly readable from a distance
of 10 and 15ft. However its readability decreased a little at
a distance of 30ft.
This was a signage outside a cafe in a residential area.
The letters are legible making the font readable, there is a
use of visual hierarchy in the signage adding emphasis on
the text written in a bigger size. But the readability is
affected at a distance of 10ft as the smallest text cannot
be read, at a distance of 15ft the medium text gets
difficult to read and at a distance of 30ft the texts except
for the ‘no parking’ are completely unreadable.
SHOP SIGNS
The shop sign makes use of prominent visual hierarchy. Due
to this clear emphasis is made on the text written in bigger
size focusing the readers eye on it first. The eye, according
to the human brain proceeds to read the text that is in a
smaller text and then the smallest.
The sign does make use of visual hierarchy, but it is
somehow unsettling. My eyes do first go towards ‘G-Next’
but then instead of going to ‘all type car accessories’ it
goes to ‘new het car seat cover’.
The shop sign uses visual hierarchy in the correct way. My
eyes follow the text in hierarchy of importance.
HAND PAINTED TYPOGRAPHY
This typography is hand painted on a street food cart. It
makes use of a font of different weights, colours and
orientations. It also makes use of visual hierarchy. The
choice of font for this devanagari script matches well in
my opinion.
This hand painted typography is done on a street cart
serving fruit juice. It makes use of different typefaces and
fonts all in different weights and colours. The typography
being colourful matches well with the item the cart is
selling. It is a legible and readable font and it being in
bold makes it readable from a farther distance as well.
This handpainted typography is done behind a truck. The
motive of this text is to ask the vehicle behind the truck to
honk for caution. It makes use of bold legible letters
making it easily readable at a short distance while driving.
PRINT
This magzine contains information and visuals related to
the latest interior trends of the time. The title ‘Interiors’ is
written in an elegant typeface with a font with light line
weight. The typography suits the overall colour palette,
theme and visual of the cover.
The magzine cover displays a action filled visual with the
title ‘Discovery’. despite the title suiting the visual, the
typography doesnt. The font and colour, being in serif does
not add to the action theme of the cover. It gives more of
a playful, decorative sense.
The title ‘Forbes’, in my opinion matches the cover and the
magazine as a whole. Forbes being an informative, quality ranking
magazine, the typography and font suits well. The serif in Forbes
and the Sans Serif in In Da Groove, match the respective themes
while keeping the magazines theme in mind.
SCREEN
This Ikea website makes accurate use of visual hierarchy. Firstly, the bright colours on a
subtle white background makes it pop out. Secondly, the text ‘Sale’ being in a bold
font drags the readers eye to it, achieving their advertisement strategy. The Ikea logo
being small but effectively noticible, with the search bar below it enhances the users
experience more. The overall colour pallete, being the classic colours of ikea, ties the
entire page together. The use of different line weights in fonts adds to the visual
hierarchy.
The Sabyasachi brand, known for being premium and elegant, shows it off in its website page.
The use of a simple legible yet a elegant sans serif font adds to the overall theme. It makes use
of visual hierarchy in terms of pictures and texts. The brand name being on the top in bold
white makes the viewer take their eyes from it to the collaboration name written in a slightly
bigger but similar font. The caption, being in italics and in a smaller font at the bottom takes
your eyes to it last to conclude the visual perfectly.
MOTION GRAPHICS
The motion graphic title sequence reads ‘scott
pilgrim vs the world’. In context to the movie this is
taken from, the words ‘Scott Pilgrim” written in a
thundering, casual font matches the theme well.
The ‘vs’ written in the middle in a different font
balances the two comparisons. The text ‘The
world’ written in a bold sans serif font
differentiates it from the prior comparison
creating a true sense of comparison. The colours
being a glowy tint get highlted on the dark
background. It also makes use of similarity in
context to colour.
The graphic in this title sequence makes
use of figure and ground. The bright red on
the dark black background achieve it. The
colour pallete brings out a sense of mystery
in the visual along with the text being in a
suspiciously normal sans serif font. The
graphic is engaging as the lines from ‘r’
and ‘n’ stretch down to the visual. It also
makes use of similarity in reference to
colour.
