Detection Fall
Detection Fall
Abstract:
Falls represent a major public health risk worldwide for the elderly. An unattended fall can lead to
functional impairment, significantly reducing mobility, independence, and quality of life. Falls are a
leading cause of injury and loss of independence among older adults, often resulting in serious health
complication or even death. As the aging population continues to grow, there is an increasing need for
reliable and efficient systems to detect falls early and provide timely assistance. In this paper, we
propose an enhanced fall detection system foe monitoring elderly individual, based on smart sensors
worn on the body and operating through consumer home networks. We explore various fall detection
technologies, including wearable sensors, vision-based system, and ambient sensors, aimed at
monitoring and recognizing fall event in real time. We examine the advantage and limitation of each
approach, focusing on factors such as accuracy, ease of use, cost, and privacy concerns. A literature
survey of existing work on elderly fall detection using sensors networks and IOT is provided. This
survey approaches the topic from different perspectives, including data collection, data transmission,
sensor fusion, data analysis, security, and privacy. In this context, the present work proposes an
innovative IOT – based system for detecting falls of elderly people in indoor environments, utilizing
low-power wireless sensor networks, smart devices, and big data. For this purpose, a 3D –axis
accelerometer embedded in a 6 LOWPAN wearable device is used to collect real-time movement data
from elderly individuals. When a fall is detected, the system automatically reacts by sending a
notification to the caregivers responsible for the elderly person’s well-being. Once the wearable device
detects a fall, it triggers an alert to the user’s emergency contact via a cell phone notification.
Additionally, advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence are discussed as methods to
improve detection rates and minimize false alarms. By providing a comprehensive overview of current
solutions and future prospects, this study highlights the critical role of technology in enhancing the
safety and quality of life for the elderly.
