TEJS TEUP 201: DIFFERENTIATED PLANNING, LEARNING & MULTIMEDIA

‘Make This My Course’ Learning Journal

Introduction

Welcome to this ‘Make this My Course’ Learning Journal developed by the Learning
Mindset and Caroline Archambault, and me Phyllis Bernice Kwarteng Donkor, your lecturer
for TEJS/TEUP 201: Differentiated Planning, Learning & Multimedia. This Learning Journal
is designed to help you direct your learning and make it meaningful for you.

Some key principles for this Learning Journal:

A course is not just given to you; you have to take it.
There is always more on offer than what’s in the syllabus.
Writing things down will not only help you remember, but it will also help you think.

Based on these principles, I have developed a series of 4 exercises with reflection prompts.

1. My Learning Objectives: At the start of the course, connect to my course learning

objectives and come up with your own.
2. My Takeaways: After each class session reflect on your takeaways.
3. My Assignments: For every assignment in the course pursue your own goals, collect
feedback, and process takeaways.
4. My Life After Course: At the end of the Block 4 part of the course reflect on your own
learning journey and your next steps.

You can also add any other exercises you wish to in this Learning Journal. For example,
maybe you want to take notes on the readings here or keep all your assignments and feedback
here. You can turn this into a course scrapbook of sorts. It is up to you to make this your own.

But these 4 exercises are mandatory and will count towards your participation grade.

Participation is worth 15% of your final grade. 10% will be this journal which you will
complete before revision week. The other 5% will be devoted to your participation in class
sessions and activities throughout the entire course.

You will receive an A if you take this seriously and complete all the exercises. You will get
an F if you don’t😊

You will submit your Learning Journal on Sakai by 9th December 2024.

PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING YOU DON’T WANT ME TO READ!

Enjoy the journey!

1. My Learning Objectives

Why: As outlined in the syllabus, there are 7 Learning Objectives that cover Content, Skills,
and Attitudes practice for you in this course. Did you know that taking a few minutes to
reflect on and actually connecting to these learning objectives can really help with your
motivation and, ultimately, your learning in this course!

And don’t forget that you can also make your own Learning Objectives to work on your
personal development.

When: You will complete this exercise before our first class session together.

2. My Takeaways

Why: How often do you find yourself running out the door after class onto something else?
Before your mind leaves you for other places again, reflect on what you have learned and
takeaway from this session. This will improve retention and deepen your learning

When: At the end of every class session, I will try to give you a few minutes to reflect and
write. If I forget to or can’t spare the time in the lesson, please make sure you squeeze in
these few minutes of reflection on your own.

3. My Assignment Goals

Why: I have certain goals for you on your assignments which you can see by looking at the
assignment description and the grading rubric for each assignment. Do you have any specific
goals that can be pursued within the confines of the assignment? For tips on identifying a
personal goal, read through the assignment carefully and study the rubric. Are there elements
of pursuing this assignment that you find challenging? Might this be an interesting goal to
pursue?

Who can give you feedback on these personal goals? Write your goal on the top of the
assignment. But be resourceful and try to get feedback from other sources too.

When: Reflect on this for each of the assignments for the semester. Identify a personal goal,
figure out a strategy, do it, and find/set-up feedback, and reflect on next steps in your goal.

4. My Life After Course

Why: It’s the end of the course and evaluation time. It is very nice of you that you are going
to evaluate the course and give me feedback on how to improve it for those who come next.
BUT don’t forget to evaluate and assess the course for you. How did you do on the Learning
Objectives? What more do you still need/want to learn? Where are you going to find the
opportunities to continue this learning in the rest of the program?

When: Before our last class session, please fill this in and be ready to discuss together.
