Introduction to Computer Usage Lab Manual

Lab 1: Getting Started with Computers


Objectives:

- Identify the basic hardware components of a computer system

- Learn how to turn on and shut down a computer properly

- Become familiar with the desktop interface and common navigation

Activities:

1. Identify the main hardware components of the computer, including the monitor,
keyboard, mouse, and system unit.

2. Locate the power buttons for turning on the monitor and system unit. Observe the
boot-up process as the computer starts.

3. Practice using the mouse to navigate the desktop, open applications, and browse
folders.

4. Locate the start menu or application launcher and open a few programs.

5. Practice shutting down the computer correctly through the operating system
menu.
Lab 2: File Management
Objectives:

- Understand file and folder organization on a computer

- Learn how to create, save, open, and manage files and folders

Activities:

1. Explore the file directory structure, including drives, folders, and file types.

2. Create a new folder on the desktop and name it appropriately.

3. Practice saving a new text document into the folder you created.

3. Open a new tab and perform a web search.

6. Check the inbox for any incoming emails and respond appropriately.
