C. Summary of the content to cover

Briefly describe ‘what’ content you need to cover. This will inform the lesson objectives and
choice of teaching strategy.
This lesson explores the impact of steamships on travel and trade, the tragedy of the Titanic,
modern water transport, cargo ships, cruise ships, submarines, and freighters, and their
significance in various industries and daily life.

D. Lesson Objectives

List the objectives for this specific lesson below. Use the verbs from Blooms Taxonomy to frame

your objectives.
1. By the end of this lesson, learners will be able to… recall the first forms of water
transportation.
2. By the end of this lesson, learners will be able to… evaluate the origins of water
transportation.
3. By the end of this lesson, learners will be able to… comprehend what water transport is.

E. Curriculum Integration (if relevant)

Briefly describe how this lesson integrates content, skills, or knowledge from other areas of the
curriculum (if relevant).
Geography: This lesson touches on geographical aspects related to waterways and trade routes.
Science: This lesson touches on scientific principles such as buoyancy, engineering and propulsion.

F. Rationale for Lesson Design

Consider the following questions and write a paragraph that responds to these questions in the
space provided below:

1. How does the knowledge of this topic inform choices for learning design?
• What is the main idea/s and most important things to know about this topic?
• What ways of thinking and doing are important for learning this topic?
• How do these inform the design of learning tasks and sequencing of lesson steps?

2. How do learners and their diversities inform choices for lesson design?
• How have you considered the learning support needs in this class?
• How have I ensured that all learners may participate and learn?

3. How do opportunities in this context inform choices for lesson design?

• What possibilities and constraints have I considered?
The main idea of this lesson is to explore the impact of steamships on travel and trade, the
Titanic's significance in maritime history, and modern forms of water transport. Key concepts
include steamship revolution, faster travel, reliable schedules, increased trade, maritime disasters,
and modern vessel diversity. The learning design includes engaging questions, visual
introductions, discussions about the Titanic's story, class debates, transition to modern water
transport, and assessment through discussions, group work, and follow-up assignments. The
lesson considers diverse learning styles, uses visual aids, and adapts to specific needs. It
encourages active participation and fosters a positive classroom environment. Opportunities in
the context include using technology. However, constraints include time limitations, access to
resources, and class size.

G. Teaching and learning strategies.

Select the teaching strategies you will Justify your choice/s of teaching strategy/s below
employ that are suitable for each phase of by explaining the strategy (with references) and

strategy for each phase. Delete if more

and explore their advantages and disadvantages
(Killan and Hattingh, 2022). Videos on topics such
as historical ships or the Titanic, provide visual and
auditory stimuli, enhancing understanding and
retention. Writing for learning reinforces
understanding, organizes thoughts, and supports
memory retention (Killan and Hattingh, 2022). It
can be used to summarize key points about
different water transport modes, reflect on the
Titanic's story, and formulate arguments,
encouraging active information processing (Killan
and Hattingh, 2022). Overall, direct instruction,
discussion, video, and writing are effective
methods for teaching water transport.
H. Lesson Phases

Lesson Write, in detail, every element/step of your lesson for each Resources
phase.Include time on task for each phase.

video on YouTube titled “Titanic | The Story Lives On |
Stories for Kids” after the video I will proceed to talk to the
learners about the titanic and discuss certain facts about
the titanic such as “What type of ship was the titanic”,
“What class of people were passengers on the titanic?”
and :How did the Titanic sink”
In the closure phase of this lesson I will Talk about modern Textbook,

Durban. I will explain that ships are used in the modern day
to transport goods. I will show them a photo of a modern
Cargo ship. Then I will ask the learners to write a small
paragraph on what they learned in the lesson to remember
the topics we covered. I will discuss this with the class and
take in their cards for further observation use.

ASSESSMENT Observe students' participation in discussions, group activities, and the debate.
Evaluate their understanding based on their contributions and insights.
Collect the cards the learners completed to see if the students understood the
lesson and what the key points they observed are.

LESSON REFLECTION

B.Ed Year 1 and Year 2 (only)

(Answer the following questions after each lesson)

Describe, in detail, aspects of your lesson that worked well.

The learners enjoyed being able to interact with each other in the lesson. They were interactive
and they engaged with the lesson. The learners also enjoyed sharing their stories.
Which area or phase of your lesson did not go according to plan? Explain why you think this may
have happened and how would you do it differently next time.
The learners did not fully understand the concept of a steam ship.
Re-examine your lesson objectives. Were the objectives met by all learners in this class? Explain.
Yes. The learners were able to meet all the objectives I set up in this lesson plan.
This is what I learnt about the learners in my class today (do not provide any names):
The learners are more well behaved when they are in an interactive environment an dthey are
able to share their own personal experiences.
Any additional reflections?
The learners are not so interested in writing for activities.
