(1) The graph below shows the Japan’s population by age group starting from 1960 and
including a forecast to 2040.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main main features and
make comparisons where relevant
In 1960, the 0-14 group represented approximately 30% of the population, but this share has
steadily decreased to 20% by 2000 and is forecasted to drop to 10% by 2040. Similar changes
can be seen in the figure for the 25-64 age group, although initially growing from about 65% in
1960 to a peak of 70% in 1990, began to decline after that point. By 2020, it had fallen to 60%
and is projected to decrease significantly to around 55% by 2040.
n contrast, the elderly population (65+) exhibited a consistent upward trend. It started at just
under 10% in 1960, after which it witnessed a steady increase, surpassing 20% by 2000 and
overtaking the youngest group (0-14) with approximately 25% around 2010 to become the
second-largest age group. It then stabilized at this level by 2020 and is projected to rise
significantly to nearly 35% by 2040.
(2) The graph below shows the consumption of fish and some different kinds of meat in a
European country between 1979 and 2004
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main main features and
make comparisons where relevant
In 1979, beef consumption was the highest among the meats, at approximately 230 grams per
person per week, followed by chicken, lamb, and fish. However, over time, chicken consumption
saw a sharp upward trend, surpassing beef by the mid-1990s and peaking at just under 250 grams
per person per week by 2004. In contrast, beef consumption decreased gradually, reaching just
over 150 grams per person per week by the end of the period.
Lamb consumption, which had been higher than fish in 1979, showed a steady decline
throughout the period, dropping to below 50 grams per person per week by 2004. Fish
consumption remained the lowest of all the categories, fluctuating slightly and finishing at
around 50 grams per person per week in 2004, which is only a small decrease compared to its
starting point in 1979.
