Scenario:
As a member of the medical staff, you are tasked with assessing the risk of cardiovascular disease among the
50 male employees at your company who are all 30 years old and above. You measured the 50 employees’ BMI,
blood pressure, and fasting blood glucose levels. Additionally, you have been provided with a data set containing
their low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. The complete set of
health metrics for your analysis includes:
1. BMI;
2. Blood pressure;
3. Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) levels;
4. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels; and
5. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels.
Use the health metric ranges provided below for your analysis and comparison.
Body Mass Index (kg/m2): Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) levels (mg/dL):
• Underweight < 18.5 • Normal < 100
• Healthy Weight 18.5–24.9 • Impaired fasting glucose 100–125
• Overweight 25.0–29.9 • High FBG ≥ 126
• Obesity ≥30.0
Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels (mg/dL):
Blood pressure (mmHg): • Desirable < 100
Systolic blood pressure (SBP): • At risk 100–159
• Normal < 120 • Dangerous ≥ 160
• Prehypertension 120–139
• Hypertension, stage 1 140–159 High-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels (mg/dL):
• Hypertension, stage 2 ≥ 160 • Desirable ≥ 60
• Normal 40–59
Diastolic blood pressure (DBP): • Dangerous < 40
• Normal < 80
• Prehypertension 80–89 References:
• Hypertension, stage 1 90–99 Cholesterol Levels (Cleveland Clinic)
• Hypertension, stage 2 ≥ 100 Mean fasting blood glucose (WHO)

Problem Set #3 | Prepared by: Kayseri Ann Eureka Gabriel
TASK 1:
B. Overall Discussion:
Based on your calculations, write a 250-word report summarizing and analyzing the health status of the
employees, identifying any employees who may need special attention. Additionally, discuss the various factors
(such as lifestyle, genetics, environmental conditions) that could influence or improve the health metrics you
analyzed.
TASK 2:
Using the data set, answer the following questions and show your solution:
1. Using your computed mean (μ) and population standard deviation (σ) of the 50 employees, calculate the
z-scores for Joseph, Ronald, and Jerry’s diastolic blood pressure.
2. Joseph, Edward, and Samuel have BMIs equal to 25 kg/m2, which is borderline overweight. Using the
data set, identify the following:
a. Number of data values less than 25 kg/m2
b. Percentile for Joseph, Edward, and Samuel’s BMI
3. Thomas and Matthew have FBG levels of 126 mg/dL, which means that they are at risk of diabetes. If
their FBG levels are higher than those of 35 other employees, what is the percentile for their FBG?
4. From the measured LDL levels of the 50 employees, identify the following:
a. Q1
b. Q2
c. Q3
