Tutorial Problems

1. Find expressions for A, β, the closed-loop gain Vo/Vs, the input resistance Rin, and the output
resistance Rout. Also find numerical values, given μ = 104, Rid = 100 k, ro = 1 k, RL = 2 k, R1 = 1
k , R2 = 1 M , and Rs = 10 k.

2. Calculate the voltage gain Vo/Vs, input resistance Rif, and output resistance Rof for the circuit
shown in figure below.

3. Derive the voltage gain, Av = Vo/Vi, Avf = Vo/Vs, Rif, Rof for the circuits shown below.
4. Obtain the voltage gain Vo/Vs, input resistance Rin, and output resistance Rout. Find numerical
values for the case gm1 = gm2 = 4 mA/V, RD1 = RD2 = 10 k, R1 = 1 k, and R2 = 9 k. For simplicity,
neglect ro of each of Q1 and Q2.

5. Calculate the voltage gain, input resistance, output resistance, with and without feedback for
the amplifier shown in figure below. (Consider the values for hfe and resistances, Vcc as
designed for lab – 1st experiment)

6. Derive the transconductance Gm = Io/Vi and calculate Gmf = Io/Vs, β = Vf/Io, Avf = Vo/Vs,
Ri, Rif, Ro and Rof for the circuit shown below.
7. Derive the closed-loop transfer function Agf = Io/Vi of the discrete transistor feedback
circuit shown below.

8.
9. Part of the circuit of the MC1553 is shown in circuit below called a feedback triple is
composed of three gain stages with series–series feedback provided by the network
composed of RE1, RF, and RE2. Assume that the bias circuit, establishes IC1 = 0.6
mA, IC2 = 1 mA, and IC3 = 4 mA. Also assume that for all three transistors, 5 hfe =
100 and ro = ∞.
a. Anticipating that the loop gain will be large, find an approximate expression
and value for the closed-loop gain Af ≡ Io/Vs and hence for Ic/Vs. Also find
Vo/Vs.
b. Use feedback analysis to find A, β, Af, Vo/Vs, Rin, and Rout. For the
calculation of Rout, assume that ro of Q3 is 25 k

10. Derive the closed loop transresistance gain, β, Ri, Rif, Ro and Rof for the single-
transistor feedback circuit shown below

11. For the transresistance amplifier in circuit below, replace the MOSFET with its small-
signal equivalent-circuit model and use feedback analysis and
a. Derive Af = Vo/Is, Ri, Rif, Ro, Rof.
b. Find A, β, Aβ, Af Ri, Ro, Rif, Rin, Rof, and Rout for gm = 5 mA/V, ro = 20 k,
RF = 10 k, and Rs = 1 k.
12. For the following circuit, calculate the following A = Vo/Ii, β, Aβ, Af = Vo/Is, Avf =
Vo/Vs, Ri, Ro, Rif, and Rof

13. Consider the circuit in figure below with transistor parameters VTN = 1.5 V, Kn = 1
mA/V2 and 𝜆 = 0.
a. Determine the closed loop voltage gain, Avf = Vo/Vi.
b. If the transistor conduction parameter Kn increases to 1.5 mA/V2,
determine the new value of voltage gain.

14. Determine the closed loop current gain and input resistance of a discrete shunt-series
transistor feedback circuit shown in below figure. Transistor parameters hFE = 100 and
VA = ∞. Assume the source resistance Rs = 10 M. The capacitors are large enough to
act as short circuits to the signal currents.

15. Find β, Ai, Aif, Avf, Ri, Rif for the two-stage amplifier shown in below circuit diagram.

16. In the two-stage feedback amplifier shown below, the transistors are identical and have
the following parameters: hfe = 50, hie = 2 k, hre = 0, and hoe = 0, Calculate the
