COURSE ASSIGNMENT
Course: Wireless Communication and Mobile Computing
Total Marks: 20% Submission Deadline: January 1-2025 Instructions: 1. This assignment is divided into Part A (Theory-based questions) and Part B (Practical/Research-based questions). 2. All answers must be original and well-structured. Plagiarism will result in a penalty. 3. Submit your assignment in PDF format to the system.
Part A: Theory-Based Questions (10 Marks)
Question 1: Fundamentals of Wireless Communication (2 Marks) 1. Define wireless communication and explain its key components 2. Discuss the advantages and limitations of wireless communication. Question 2: Cellular Network Architecture (2 Marks) 1. Describe the structure and working of a cellular network, highlighting the role of Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) and Mobile Switching Centers (MSC). 2. Compare and contrast 3G, 4G, and 5G network architectures. Question 3: Medium Access Control (MAC) in Wireless Networks (2 Marks) 1. Explain the role of Medium Access Control in wireless networks. 2. Discuss the differences between Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) and Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA). Question 4: Mobile Computing Overview (2Marks) 1. Define mobile computing and its key components. 2. Explain the challenges of mobile computing and how they are addressed in modern systems. Question 5: Wireless Communication Standards (2 Marks) 1. List and explain any three wireless communication standards (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee). 2. Discuss the importance of standards in ensuring interoperability in wireless systems. Part B: Practical/Research-Based Questions (10 Marks) Question 6: Wireless Technology Application (4 Marks) Research and create a report (500–700 words) on the role of wireless communication in the development of Smart Cities. Your report should cover: • The use of IoT devices and their wireless communication protocols. • Applications such as traffic management, smart grids, and public safety. • Challenges in implementing wireless technologies in Smart Cities. Question 7: Comparative Analysis of Wireless Technologies (2 Marks) Create a comparative table for the following wireless technologies: Wi-Fi, 5G, and LoRaWAN. Include at least five parameters, such as data rate, range, power consumption, latency, and use cases. Question 8: Simulation of Wireless Networks (4 Marks) Using a simulation tool (e.g., NS3, OMNeT++, or MATLAB), perform the following tasks: • Simulate a basic wireless communication network with at least three nodes. • Measure and report the performance in terms of throughput, delay, and packet loss. • Submit a short report (300–500 words) with screenshots of your simulation setup and results.
Evaluation Criteria: 1. Completeness of answers and adherence to instructions.
2. Depth of understanding and clarity in explanations.
3. Proper use of references and citations in Part B. 4. Quality of analysis and presentation in reports and tables. Note: Feel free to reach out to your instructor for any clarifications or technical issues.
