Cloudline Servers

Cloudline servers utilize the AMI UEFI BIOS, distinguishing them from ProLiant servers which use HPE's UEFI. They feature industry-standard components, modular configurations, and direct supplier engagement for cost efficiency and adaptability. The servers support legacy BIOS compatibility and are backed by AMI's extensive experience in server firmware development.

Cloudline servers

Overview:
The Cloudline servers are differentiated from ProLiant because they are based on the American
Megatrend International (AMI) UEFI BIOS, whereas ProLiant servers are based on the UEFI for
HPE ProLiant ROM BIOS.
The AMI UEFI Aptio V provides much of the same functionality as the UEFI for ProLiant ROM
including a base management controller (BMC) that you use to manage the server with an
administrative login.
Features
These are the features of Cloudline RAS Setup.

 Industry standard components

HPE Cloudline uses standardized server system specifications based on Open Compute
Project (OCP) guidelines, for easier adaptability, scalability, and integration.
 Modular personalized configuration

The building block approach lets customers personalize their configurations with
industry-standard hardware options (such as NICs and SSDs) — resulting in
volume-driven cost advantage, early adoption, and increased IT consistency.

This way, they can only be used within the project, and security risks are limited.

 Common standard BIOS

Customers can be consistent with all-AMI BIOS and BMC while leveraging standard
manufacturer firmware and support for multivendor hardware options. This approach
speeds up addressing of bugs and issues and provides commonality for service and support.
 Direct supplier engagement
Customers engage directly with HPE on system design, including physical configuration and
features. They get lower costs because of direct pricing and delivery negotiation with the
supplier. With no VAR engagement, customers can order at the component, system, or rack
level.
Function:
Aptio core drivers and modules conform to the UEFI specification and beyond, providing
support for key industry standards and technologies. The Compatibility Support Module (CSM)
enables full software compatibility with legacy BIOS.
AMI Firmware Update (AFU) is a scriptable command line utility for DOS, Microsoft Windows,
Linux, FreeBSD, and the UEFI shell. It programs the main BIOS image, boot block, or OEM
configurable ROM region.
AMI is a leader in the server industry in both BMC and UEFI BIOS firmware. Their long history of
working closely with Tier One OEMs means that AMI is in a unique position to develop custom
solutions for many silicon and OS vendor partners.
