Overview
This assignment is meant to explore your applied understanding of how the Elements
and Principles of Design are used in practice. Elements and Principles are like the
building blocks of visual art, they are also a visual language that communicates
meaning.
This work also expands your understanding of how Elements and Principles are
implemented from a Post Modern perspective.
You may use examples online or from your own work.

TASKS

1. Create a document with 5 full compositions from online or your own work. Do
not choose simple objects but complex pieces of work. Refer to the handout
‘Conceptual and Emotional Meanings of Elements and Principles of Design’ on
pages 2-3 .
Label the Element or Principle illustrated in your example.In one to two sentences
describe the concept (idea) and emotional meaning that is communicated using the
handout. Choose one aspect from 5 different main headings. For example, something
from Colour, Shape, Space, Lines etc.

Create a document with 7 images online OR create your own examples OR use past
examples of your work.
Refer to the handout called Contemporary Elements of Art on page 5 . You can
also do online research to better understand these elements.
Label each image and describe the Post Modern element it represents in one to two
sentences.
