INPUT AND OUTPUT

DEVICES
WELCOME
INTRODUCTION
● Computers interact with the world using input and output
devices. Input devices help users enter data and commands
into a computer, while output devices display or transmit the
processed information back to the user.

● For example, when you type on a keyboard or move a

mouse, you are using input devices to send data to the
computer. The monitor and speakers, on the other hand, are
output devices that show images or play sounds as a
response.

● These devices are essential for communication between

humans and computers, making it easier to perform tasks
efficiently.
INPUT DEVICES
Input devices are hardware components that allow users to
enter data, commands, or signals into a computer system.
These devices convert user actions into a form that the
computer can process. Common input devices include
keyboards for typing, mice for navigation, microphones for voice
input, and scanners for digitizing documents. Some advanced
input devices, like touchscreens and sensors, provide more
interactive ways to communicate with computers.

Manual Input Devices - These require direct user

01 interaction to input data. Examples include keyboards,
mice, touchscreens, and game controllers.

Automatic Input Devices – These capture data

without direct human involvement. Examples include
02
scanners, sensors, barcode readers, and biometric
devices like fingerprint scanners.
OUTPUT DEVICES
Output devices display or transmit the processed information
from a computer to the user. They convert digital data into a
human-perceivable form, such as visual, audio, or physical
output. Monitors display text and images, speakers produce
sound, and printers create physical copies of digital documents.
Other output devices, like projectors and haptic feedback
systems, enhance user interaction by providing different types
of responses based on the processed data.

Soft Copy Output Devices – These display information

01 temporarily on a screen or through sound. Examples
include monitors, projectors, and speakers.

Hard Copy Output Devices – These produce

02 permanent physical output. Examples include
printers and plotters.
