1.a) List and explain the major advantages of using a programmable controller.
b) Briefly explain the basics of PLC system. [8+7]

2. Explain the overall PLC system with a neat layout and connection diagram with each
functionality. [15]

3. For the 2 and 4 input AND gates draw and explain the equivalent relay ladder and PLC
logic. [15]

4. Explain the sequential procedural steps involved in Drill press operation along with the
ladder diagram. [15]

5. Write a PLC program for correct operation of: When a start button is depressed, M goes
on. Five seconds later, N goes on. When stop is pushed, both M and N goes off. In
addition, 6 seconds after M and N go off, fan F, which had previously been off goes on.
