Speaking Review – English 2

UNIT 1

1. Tell me one activity that is good for both mental and physical
health.
I think it is doing yoga . Physically, it works the entire body, improves
flexibility. It also help calm the mind, increase focus, and relieve
anxiety /æŋˈzaɪ.ə.ti/.
2. How often do you take a nap in the afternoon?
I usually take a short nap in the afternoon. I nap for about 30 minutes
after lunch. I don’t know about others, but for me, I can’t stay focused
if I don’t take a nap.After short nap in the afternoon I can get back to
my work and solve problems effectively.
3. How many hours do you usually sleep at night?

I usually spend 7 hours sleeping every day. It helps my body relax and
recharge energy. However sometimes, I need to burn the midnight oil
to meet the deadlines, therefore, the time spent on sleeping would be
less.

4. Do you like chatting on social media? ///


I enjoy chatting on social media because it allows me to share my day,
pictures of food, sunsets, or something funny with others. It's a fun
way to express myself. It also helps me connect with friends and family
easily, no matter how far away they are.
5. Are you reading anything interesting at the moment?
I'm reading Trạng Quỷnh" right now.It’s a collection of funny stories
about Trạng Quỳnh, a clever and witty character . In these stories,
Trạng Quỳnh uses his smarts to solve problems and trick people in
funny ways.
6. Which things make you happy?
Watching movies makes me happy because it allows me to relax and
escape into different worlds. I enjoy exploring new stories and
emotions, and it’s a great way to unwind after a busy day.
7. How do you usually spend your free time?
I enjoy a variety of activities in my free time. I like to watch movies,
read books, and listen to music.Sometime, I’m also creative, so I
enjoy painting, drawing.
UNIT 2

1. Are you a competitive person?


Yes, I am a competitive person but not in a traditional meaning of the
word. I don't try to better the others with my results/rɪˈzʌlt/. But I try
to always better myself. If I achieve /əˈtʃiːv/ certain results this year, I
will try to do better next year. I can try to become the best version of
myself, and I enjoy the process.

2. Do you like winning?


Yes, I like winning, but for me, it's not about beating others. I enjoy
the feeling of success, but it's more about personal growth /ɡrəʊθ/.
Winning is achieving my own goals /ɡəʊl/ and becoming the best
version of myself. I prefer to focus on my own improvement and the
progress I make,instead of comparing myself to others
3. What sports do you like doing?
Although I’m not good at it, but I like doing yoga and swimming.And
as I think that, you know, practicing a sport regularly does wonder
for my health. It keeps me in shape , helps to relieve my back and
neck pains.
4. Which famous athlete would you like to switch places with?
I would love to switch places with Nguyen Anh Vien because she is an
inspiration to me and I love swimming.She has achieved so much in
swimming, bringing pride to Vietnam with her gold medals at the SEA
Games.I would love to experience the honor of representing /ˌrep.rɪ
ˈzent/ my country on the international stage like she does.
5. Do you support a sports team?
No, I don’t really support any specific sports team. I enjoy watching
different sports, but I don’t have a particular team that I follow.
6. What do you think is the most popular sport in the world?
I think soccer is the most popular sport in the world.It has an enormous
fan base, with countries all around the world following top
leagues.Additionally, football is a simple game to play, and people of
all ages can enjoy it with just a ball and some space.People prefer
soccer than any kinds of sports because of the animating atmosphere
it brings back.
7. What are some of the benefits of sports?
Doing sports regularly has many benefits. It helps improve health and
has been proven to boost brain power and positive emotions. Playing
sports is also a great way to meet new people and learn how to work
together as a team.

1. What’s the best way to go around your town/city?


The best way to get around my city is by motorbike. You can ride it
yourself or take a Grab to get around. It's the most convenient way
to navigate /ˈnæv.ɪ.ɡeɪt/ through the traffic, and it gives you the
freedom to explore the city.
2. Is there a traditional way of transport from where you come
from?
Yes, there are several traditional forms of transport in Vietnam,
particularly in the past. In Ho Chi Minh City,the xích lô (cyclo) /ˈsaɪ.kləʊ
ˌkrɒs/ was a popular mode of transport in the city. It’s a three-wheeled
pedicab/ˈped.ɪ.kæb/, where a passenger /ˈpæs.ən.dʒər/ would sit in
front while the driver pedaled /ˈped.əl/. You can still see these in
tourist areas today.
3. What’s the best way of traveling long distances?
The best way to travel long distances /ˈdɪs.təns/ is by plane.It’s the
fastest method, and it saves a lot of time.Additionally, air travel is
highly convenient, with many options in terms of price, comfort, and
timing.
4. Have you ever been abroad?
I have never been abroad, but I hope I will travel in future.
5. What countries would you like to visit? Why?
I’d like to visit South Korea because of its vibrant culture especially in
Seoul. I’m excited to try Korean food like kimchi and tteokbokki.
Another reason is that I’d love to see my favorite K-pop idols and
maybe attend a concert or fan meeting.
6. Do you think the type of vacation one takes reflects one's
social status?
I think the type of vacation someone chooses depends on their
budget /ˈbʌdʒ.ɪt/, age, and lifestyle. Older people with more
financial /faɪˈnæn.ʃəl/ stability /stəˈbɪl.ə.ti/ often prefer luxury trips, like
all-inclusive /ɪnˈkluː.sɪv/ tours or cruises /kruːz/, while younger people
may choose more affordable and adventurous vacations.

UNIT 4

1. Why do some people find it difficult to make decisions?


Some people find it difficult to make decisions because they are
afraid of making the wrong choice and facing bad results. Also, if
someone made a wrong decision in the past, it can affect their
judgment. They may feel like they won't make good decisions in the
future.
2. What’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
The biggest risk I’ve ever taken was learning how to roller skate. At
first, I was scared of falling and hurting myself, especially when I had
to balance on the skates. It was difficult, and I fell several times
during practice .And now I becoming more confident and skilled,
and I really enjoy skating as a fun way to stay active.
3. Have you ever gone climbing/hiking?
Actually, I haven’t gone climbing or hiking yet, but I would really like
to try it in the future. I think it would be a great way to explore
nature, stay active, and enjoy some adventure.
4. What do you prefer mountains or the sea?
I prefer the sea to the mountains. I love the warm sand on my feet,
the sound of the waves, and the fresh breeze. It's a place to relax,
reduce stress, and enjoy the moment.
5. Have you ever had an accident?
Well, actually, I have been in many accidents myself when I was
young. For example, when I was 10 years old, I was hit by a motorbike..
So we were both in shock, and for a while, we couldn't do anything
until somebody helped us and carried me to the hospital. Because /bɪ
ˈkʌz/ I didn't get a major injury /ˈɪn.dʒər.i/ from that
accident/ˈæk.sə.dənt/, I think it was really lucky and probably God
/ɡɑːd/ blessed me.
UNIT 5

1. What items do you regularly recycle?


I regularly recycle clothes, plastic bottles, and old magazines. I turn old
t-shirts into rags or cleaning cloths and repurpose old newspapers and
magazines as wrapping paper.I turn plastic bottles into plant pots for
small plants.
2. What can we do to raise people’s awareness of
environmental problems?

We can use social media to raise awareness by sharing or creating


posts about pollution, climate change, and ways to reduce carbon
footprints/ˈkɑːrbən ˈfʊtprɪnts/. For example, we can create viral
challenges or share success stories of eco-friendly practices to inspire
people to take action.These efforts can encourage /ɪnˈkʌrɪdʒɪŋ/. them to
change their daily habits and make more eco-friendly choices to
better .

3. Should recycling be mandatory?


Yes, recycling should be mandatory. It helps reduce waste, conserve
natural resources, and protect the environment. By Making recycling
mandatory , people would be more mindful of their waste, leading to a
cleaner planet and a more sustainable /səˈsteɪnəbl/. future.
4. Should there be a reward system for those who recycle
things?

Yes, there should be a reward system for recycling. If people get


rewarded, they will recycle more and help reduce waste. Rewards like
discounts or recognition would encourage more people to participate.

5. What materials can you recycle?


There are a lot of materials that can be recycled, like:

plastic bottles, paper, metals, glass, and electronic waste.Plastics like


bottle plastic are recycled into new plastic containers/kənˈteɪnəz/ .,
while metals like aluminum /ˌæləˈmɪnəm/ are melted and used to make
cans, car parts, or building materials. Electronic waste, such as old
phones, computers, and batteries, can be recycled.These materials
contain valuable metals like gold, silver, and copper that can be reused
to create new electronics.

You can recycle materials such as paper and cardboard (e.g.,


newspapers, office paper, and packaging), plastics (like PETE and
HDPE), glass (clear, green, and brown bottles), metals (including
aluminum and steel), electronics (batteries).
6. Is recycling common in your country?
No, recycling is not common in rural areas of my country. Most people
are not familiar /fəˈmɪl.jər/. with it, and waste management
/ˈmænɪdʒmənt/ systems are not as advanced /ədˈvɑːnst/ , so many
people simply throw everything away together.

1. What plans do you have for your next holiday?


I plan to go to the beach with my friends for my next holiday.I’m going
to spend time swimming and eat seafood . We will play beach
volleyball, swim in the refreshing ocean, and eat seafood at a
beachside restaurant
2. What are you doing this weekend?
I’m planning to take it easy. I just want to sleep in!. On weekends I will
wake up later than usual. The feeling of getting enough sleep helps me
feel well, recharge after a stressful week of work
3. At what age can you drive a car or get married in your
country?
In Vietnam, the legal age to drive a car is 18 years old, which is when
you can also apply for a driver's license. As for marriage, the minimum
age is 18 for women and 20 for men.

4. Have you ever had a life-changing experience?

Yes, I’ve had a life-changing experience when I moved to a new city.I


had to find a place to live and meet new people, as I didn’t know
anyone in the city at first, which made it difficult to build connections .I
made an effort to approach people and start conversations.This help
me build relationships and make new friends.In the end,I was able to
overcome the challenges.This experience made me more resilient /rɪ
ˈzɪl.i.ənt/. and confident in my ability to handle change

5. How does your family celebrate holidays?


On holidays, my family typically goes on a small trip. We love exploring
new places, even if it's just a nearby town. It helps us make memories ,
gives us a chance to relax and enjoy quality time together.
6. Do you think it is a good idea for students to take a study
break to travel for 6 months?
No, I don't think it's a good idea for students to take a study break to
travel for 6 months. While traveling can offer valuable life experiences,
a long break could disrupt their academic progress. Missing six months
of studies might make it difficult to catch up, especially if students fall
behind in important subjects.

7. What do you and your friends do on Valentine’s Day?


My friends and I usually organize a small gathering at someone's house
on Valentine's Day. We cook together,watch TV ,eat some chocolate
and enjoy the day as a group of close friends.We enjoy celebrating the
day by showing appreciation for each other, even though it's not about
romantic love.
