Program, Film & Exam Editor (PEX)
The Program Film & Exam editor, also referred to as the PEX editor, allows the user to
define organ programs, define exams that consist of one or more organ programs, and
define parameter sets for filming layouts that can be used within exams. Additionally the
setup of Workflow parameters is done in the PEX editor. The output of the editor is a
database, referred sometimes as the PEX database, containing the definitions of the
Exams and Programs plus definitions for the layout of film sheets.

PEX Editor online / offline

The PEX editor is an user accessible tool for viewing / editing of organ programs,
exams and film layouts of the PEX database. It runs on the FLC. As also offline
manipulation of the PEX database is supported, the PEX editor must additionally be
able to run on a separate system without the main FLC application. For offline usage
the PEX editor runs as a Windows Standard application.

General Data in PEX Database

The following data must be stored in the PEX database:
Version no / Version date of the shipped Siemens default database;
At least the last three dates of modification asre stored. The date is stored each time the
editor is closed and modifications were done. Without modifications no date is stored.
Site information

 Hospital name
 FLC serial no.
 System type plus system serial no.
 No of available targets (detectors)

XCU / generator configuration parameters
 Tube type
 Generator type

Siemens default database for organ programs and exams parameters

Customer database for organ programs and exams parameters
A checksum protection is implemented for all organ program and fluoro program
entries in the PEX database. The checksum covers all program parameters. Links to
parameter moduls or other organ programs may, but must not be part of the checksum.
The algorithm used for checksum calculation is defined in design specification. The
protected datasets are checked at system startup and after database import/restore. If a
checksum error is detected, the corrupt dataset will be blocked, e.g. an organ program
with checksum error must not be loaded to the system for acquisition. A warning
message will pop up and an identification of the corrupt dataset will be written to the
FLC log file.
Remark: Not valid for VF10
Remark: Reason for checksum: it has to be avoided that any manipulated dataset
(using external tools) become active in the system.
Backup / Restore - Export /Import Database
3
It is possible to import a PEX database into the PEX editor via any local or external
device (e.g. local hard disk, CD/DVD reader, USB stick). Each import replaces the
current database and cannot be undone. After activating the import function the user
gets a list of all readable devices connected to the used PC (FLC or user PC with offline
PEX editor) which can be used for import/restore. Devices (e.g. local hard disk) without
any database backup are not listed. The user selects the source device. If the selected
device is ready for reading a list of all restorable databases is shown. In case of the FLC
local hard disk, the user has to select one of the two backup folders (manual, automatic
backup) to get the list of restorable databases. If the selected device/medium doesn’t
contain a valid restorable database, an error message is displayed: ”The current device
contains no restorable PEXdatabase” After selecting a database for import a button
(“GO”) is enabled and the user may start the database transfer. The user is informed
about the state of the transfer (e.g. progress bar). After successful transfer the “old”
database is deleted and the imported database is renamed and loaded into PEX. If any
error occurs the user is informed about the reason (transfer error, inconsistent or invalid
database) and the “old” database is still valid. The restore/import of a database does not
change the current customer password. A different customer password in the source
database does not prevent the restore/import of this database.
The import function is located on the tabcard “Configuration”, see 2.3.7 . It is also used for
an initial database load, if no or no valid database exists on local harddisk.

Test: At least the following checks must be done:

Import a valid database into PEX (online and offline) and check that the data is
correct.
Import a database from another system with different options (e.g. acquisition
modes) to the FLC and check that only valid OGP's are available.
Check that all readable devices can be used for import
Check import with inconsistent/invalid databases.
Check error conditions and abort function.

It is possible to import a PEX database into the PEX editor and merge this new
database with the current database.

It shall be possible to export the database for external modification or transfer to another
system or to save a copy of the current database (backup). The export function is
accessible in all acquisition modes of the PEX editor, including viewing mode. If the FLC
user does not have the CD option, the export function is also possible.
After activating the export function the user gets a list of all writeable devices connected
to the used PC (FLC or user PC with offline PEX editor) which can be used for
export/backup (e.g. local hard disk, CD/DVD writer, USB stick). The user selects the
destination device. If no medium is inserted in the selected drive (e.g. CD/DVD) an error
message is displayed: “Please insert medium into drive”. If there is not enough space
on the destination device an error message is displayed: “Not enough free space to
store database”. If the selected device is ready for writing, a button (“GO”) is enabled
and the user may start the database transfer. The PEX database is copied to the
destination device into a predefined folder (e.g. D:\PEX_backup\). The name of the

4
database copy is the original name extended by creation date and time. The extension
must have the format
“_YYYYMMDD-hhmmss” with the definitions:
• YYYY: year, 4 digits
• MM: month, 2 digits
• DD: day, 2 digits
• hh: hour, 2 digits, range 0 to23
• mm: minutes, 2 digits
• ss: seconds, 2 digits
With this name extension multiple backups are possible on all devices (multisession
CD/DVD). On local hard disk (e.g. drive C: and D:) the number of backups is limited to
10. At least this limitation is valid for the hard disk on the FLC. If the limit is reached, the
user is requested to select one of the stored backups, which is replaced by the new
database copy, or to cancel the export function.
The export function is located on the tab card “Configuration”.

Test: At least the following checks must be done:

Export the database to all external devices, run the offline tool and check that all
datasets are correct.
Check naming convention.
Check multiple backup/exports to one device for all devices.
Check limit for hard disk backups.
Check “Cancel” and “Overwrite” functions

An automatic backup is provided by the PEX. To avoid problems with free space on
storage media (external hard disk, USB stick), the automatic backup is provided only,
if the PEX runs in FLC environment (online). The automatic backup runs in the
background. It is triggered after each editing session, when the user closes the PEX
editor.
If the database was not changed, no backup will be written. The database backup is
stored on the local hard disk in a predefined folder (e.g. D:\PEX_auto_backup\). The
folder must differ from the one used for manual backup. Up to five backups can be
stored in this folder. If the folder contains five backups the next automatic backup will
overwrite the oldest version without informing the user. For automatic database backups
the same naming conventions are used as for manual backups. A restore of a database
stored via automatic backup can be done with the import function.

Test: Check that automatic backup is done in the background after closing PEX;
Check that no backup is done, if the database has not changed;
Check overwrite of the eldest backup version.

There are two reasons for exporting/importing the PEX database:

5
• Transfer the database to another system
• Modifying the database offline to avoid blocking the system during long editing
sessions.

The first one does not need most of the PEX configuration parameters, because they
are system dependent. But the second one needs these parameters, because they may
influence some Organ Program parameter settings. To satisfy both, the following is
implemented for:
• Export:
The database is stored on an external medium containing all configuration
parameters.
• Import:
The database is read from an external medium with the “old” configuration
parameters. Configuration parameter settings do not avoid a database import.
After successful import an automatic update of the configuration parameters
must be done (e.g. an update function is provided by the FLC host softwar).
When the parameter update has finished, the database has to be checked
against the new configuration parameter settings.

Test: Export database, change it and re-import it.

Export database and import it on a different system
Check update configuration function, e.g. system with and without BWS

It must be guaranteed, that no corrupt or inconsistent database is imported/restored

from the backup medium. After each database import/restore the PEX has to check the
database for consistency. Only a valid database becomes active after import/restore.

Transfer Database
The export/import function is used to transfer a PEX database from one system to
another.
Database transfers can only be done between systems of the same type. The following
system types are known:
• II-systems (e.g. Iconos MD, Artis U)
• II-systems with mobile flat detector (mFD) (e.g. Luminos TF)
• Iconos FD and RAD-systems
Depending on license settings some Exams/Organ Programs may become inactive
after transfer. Inactive Exam/Organ Programs cannot be selected by the customer.

Test: Import a database from another system of the same type.

Import a database from another system of a different type.

6
PEX Data Categories
The PEX database supports the storage of different types of data (exam, organ
program and film layout data).
The following data types are supported:
User Data
• customer specific exams, organ programs and film layouts
SIEMENS Data
• SIEMENS default exams, organ programs and film layouts
• IQAP organ programs and exams
• Calibration organ programs and exams
• Service programs for maintenance
• Service programs for regulatory affaires (VA, RoeV §16)

Test: Check if these data categories are available in the database.

PEX Access Rights

The customer/user has access rights for the customer specific data. Additionally he has
rights for viewing the SIEMENS default organ programs and service programs for
regulatory affairs (hospital physicist). An access to IQAP and calibration programs, as
well as service programs for maintenance is not possible. This mode is called customer
mode.
Special SIEMENS IQ experts must have access for viewing and modifying of all data
categories. This mode is called IQ expert mode.
Remark: Service programs for regulatory affairs are handled like SIEMENS
default programs inside the PEX database.

Table 2: Data Categories and Access Rights

7
PEX Password Protection
PEX Customer Password
If the PEX editor is invoked on the FLC or as an offline tool, the user is asked to enter a
password to run the editor or to select “viewing mode”. The system distinguishes two
kinds of passwords, one for customer and the other for SIEMENS IQ expert mode. In
customer mode, all customer specific organ programs, exams and film layouts are
visible and changeable. In SIEMENS IQ expert mode there is full access to all data
sets. If the user selects “viewing” mode instead of entering a password he can see all
data sets, but he cannot modify them.
The customer mode password is site specific. It can be set and modified by the user.
For usage of the PEX editor offline, inclusive the data modification option, the password
must be stored in the database itself.
In the service UI the customer mode password can be reset without knowledge of the
current password.

TEST: Check that all store functions are disabled in “viewing” mode. Check that all
store functions are enabled when the editor is started in customer mode. Check
that the password can be changed by the user. Check that the password can be
changed in service mode. Check that “SIEMENS” default data sets can only be
modified in SIEMENS IQ expert mode.

PEX Change Customer Password

There is an optional item under the configuration dialog to change the customer mode
password. If this item is selected, the change password dialog appears. For entering the
new password, the old password plus a new password (twice) must be entered. With
pressing OK, the new password is checked, if OK the menu is left, it will automatically
be closed. If the new password is not OK, then a dialog with a short description of the
error appears. There are no restrictions on the length of the password or on the
characters used for the password. The PEX only checks if the input in the fields “New
Password” and “Retype New Password” is identical.
With Cancel the dialog can be left without modifying the password.
Change Password Dialog

8
PEX IQ-Expert Password
There is an optional configuration item under configuration menu to run the PEX editor
tool in the IQ expert mode. Running the PEX editor tool in the IQ expert mode must be
additionally password protected. The password differs from the service UI / customer
PEX editor password. A modification of this password is not supported. The IQ expert
mode password is standardized for all databases and therefore hardcoded in the PEX
editor.
Test: Check that IQ expert password cannot be changed via change password dialog.

PEX Number of Data Entries

The database supports at least 1000 organ programs and 200 exam entries for the
SIEMENS default organ programs inclusive the IQAP and calibration organ programs.
The storage capacity for the customer database must be at least 3000 organ programs
and 3000 exams. At least 30 fluoro programs and 10 programs for roadmap can be
stored in the database. The fluoro programs are grouped in 10 sets, each holding 3
fluoro (auto1, auto2, auto3) and one roadmap program.
Each exam is able to content at least 50 organ programs.

Test: Check that the limits given above are fulfilled.

PEX Special Date Sets

An exam for the “daily quality control” is defined in each PEX data base. This exam is
loaded by the FLC when the “daily-quality-control” function is activated by the user. It
has the following attributes:
• The exam has a unique identifier, which labels it as “daily quality control” exam
in each data base for any system. This identifier is the same in a PEX data
bases.
• This exam cannot be deleted by the user (customer and IQ-expert), even if no
Organ Programs are currently linked to this exam.
• All exam parameters can be set by the user (customer and IQ-expert)
• The user (customer and IQ-expert) may add Organ Programs to this exam
• The user (customer and IQ-expert) may delete Organ Programs from this exam

Test: Check that the “daily-quality-control” exam is defined

Check that all parameters can be changed
Check that the exam cannot be deleted
Do these checks in both roles “customer” and “IQ-expert”

• the fluoro program editor, to define and edit FPG,
• the film layout editor, to define and edit film layouts
• the editor for parameter modules, to define and edit parameter subsets which are
referenced in other datasets, e.g. OGP
• the editor for configuration data, e.g. language configuration, generator type.
At least a “Close” button is provided at the bottom of the window.

PEX Editor General Layout

Test: Check that a “Close“- button is available independent of the selected tab card.

10
Close PEX Editor
The user can close the PEX editor at any time. A warning message will pop up if there
are any unsaved data sets. If the user accepts (button “OK” in pop up window), all
unsaved changes he made since the editor was opened are discarded. Otherwise he
may cancel (button “Cancel” in pop up window) the close function. To save the changes
the user has to use the function buttons on the tab cards “Exam”, “Organ program”,
“Fluoro program”, “Film Layout” or “Param. Module.”

Test: Check that a warning message pops up if there are unsaved changes. Check
the functions “OK” and “Cancel” in the pop up window.

Rearrange Data Entries

The OGPs in Organ Program view can be grouped by the following order:
 Name: alphabetic order of the OGPs
 Body Part: The OGPs are grouped by body part examined and the groups are
displayed in alphabetical order
 Acq. Mode: The OGPs are grouped by the acquisition mode and the groups are
displayed in alphabetical order.

Remark: Also for Chinese and Japanese characters a language specific sort order
must be considered.
Test: Check the grouping of OGPs.

12
The exams in the examination view can be sorted by the following order:
• Name: alphabetic order of the exams
• Body Part: The exams are sorted by body part examined and the body parts are
displayed in alphabetic order. The value of the parameter “body part examined” of
the first Organ Program within an exam is used to define the rank for sorting.
• Acq. System: The exams are sorted by the acquisition system and the acquisition
systems are displayed in alphabetical order. The value of the parameter “acquisition
system” of the first Organ Program within an exam is used to define the rank for
sorting.

Remark: Also for Chinese and Japanese characters a language specific sort order
must be considered.
Test: Check the sorting of exams.

Create Exam – Store as new

A new exam can be created by typing a name in the field “Exam Name” and pressing
the button “Store as new”. If “sort by name” is selected the new exam is shown at the
position given by alphabetic order or at the bottom of the exam list if any other sort
criteria is selected. The new exam is automatically selected and can be changed by the
user. The tab card “Exam parameter” is shown with the new exam name and with the
values of the former exam (selected before button “Store as new” was pressed) as
default values for all the other parameters. The parameter “Name for RIS” is set to the
new exam name.
Valid only for VF10: There is still no organ program linked to this new exam.
Not valid for VF10: Also the OGP links of the former exam are copied to the new exam.

Test: Define new exam.

Link Organ Program to Exam

The user has 2 possibilities to link OGPs to an exam, the button “Insert OGP” or the
Drag & Drop mechanism. The standard Windows function is used to implement
“Drag & Drop” for linking OGPs from Organ Program view to a selected exam in
examination view. Alternatively the user may link OGPs by using the button “Insert
OGP”.
This is done by the following steps:
• Select an exam or select an Organ Program within an exam in examination
view
• Select an Organ Program in Organ Program view
• Press button “Insert OGP”
The Organ Program is linked to the exam below the position selected in examination
view.

Remark: The same Organ Program can be linked multiple times to one exam.
Test: Define OGPs in exam. Define OGPs at different positions.

13
Remove Organ Program from Exam
The user has 2 possibilities to remove linked OGPs from an exam. The user selects an
exam to view the linked OGPs. Then he selects the Organ Program link to be removed
and presses the button “Remove OGP” or hits the “Del”- key on his keyboard. The
system removes the Organ Program link without any further confirmation. It is possible
to have exams without any linked Organ Program in the database during the current
editing session. When leaving the PEX’s exam editor the user is informed about these
empty exams. If the user presses the button “OK” the empty exams are deleted (not
valid for VF10). When he presses the button “Cancel” the PEX’s exam editor is not
closed and the user may continue the editing session. The PEX’s exam editor cannot be
closed as long as there are empty exams in the database (not valid for VF10).

Test: At least the following checks must be done:

Remove OGPs from exams.
Check the handling of empty exams

Delete Exam
The button “Delete Exam” on tab card “Exam parameter” is used to delete entire exams.
The selected exam is deleted. After pressing the button “Delete Exam” a confirmation
window pops up to avoid unintended deletion of an exam. This button is active as long
as an exam is selected in “Examination view”. It becomes inactive if an Organ Program
link is selected within an exam.

Test: Delete entire exam.

Set Exam Parameter

The following parameter can be set, modified and stored by the user:
• Name for RIS: This parameter is used to identify the exam via RIS. If this
identifier is sent from RIS within an examination (workflow), the system may
automatically link this exam to the received examination. The following settings
are defined for this parameter:
Default value: the name of the exam;
Range: A string up to 64 characters, all printable characters are allowed; the
characters ‘%’ and ‘*’ are used as wildcards, whereas ‘%’ represents exactly
one character and ‘*’ represents any number of characters (including none,
limited by the defined string length) in the RIS match function.
Trailing blanks are deleted;
in Japanese configuration DICOM ISO_IR 13 is supported.
The values are defined by the customer and do not change even if the
language configuration will change on the FLC.
• Network Node n (n = 1, 2, 3): The user may define up to three network partners
as send targets. These targets are used for auto send as well as for manual
sending.
Default values: for n=1 is the default target as defined in user settings, for n=2
and 3 the value is “undefined”.

14
• Camera: The user selects the camera he wants to use for filming/auto filming of
all the printer defined in user settings.
• Filming Layout: VF10: no selection is possible. Only two default film layouts are
defined, one for DFR and one for RAD
VF20: Two film layouts can be selected here. One for DFR and one for RAD
images. The selection depends on the value set for parameter “Camera”.
Default are the first layouts for the selected camera.
If “auto Scale” is selected, the scale factor will be automatically calculated from
the largest image, otherwise a fix factor is to select, which is valid for all
images.
• Add to Favorites: This parameter is used to set or reset the attribute “favorite” to
this exam. Favorite exams can be listed separately in the exam manager.
Default value is “not set”. An exam marked as “favorite” is displayed bold in the
examination view.

Test: Check all parameters and the values.

Store Exam
If the user has changed some parameters in the tab card “Exam parameter”, he has to
press the button “Store” to save the changes in the database. After selection of an exam
the button “Store” is inactive. It becomes active after the first parameter change and
inactive again after being pressed.

Test: Store changed exams. Check state of button “Store”.

Exam OGP-Link Parameter

“Exam parameter” changes to the link information for this Organ Program (the link
information changes from dimmed to active). The user may change/define the link
information parameters. The changes can be saved by using the button “Store” as
described above. The link information can be set for each Organ Program in an exam.
The settings may be different. The following link parameter can be set:
• Automatic switch to next Organ Program after acquisition: If this parameter is
set, the system will automatically load the next Organ Program after an
exposure. Default value is “not set”.
• Filming Layout: An individual filming layout is linked to each Organ Program
within an exam. The type of the filming layout (Fluoro or Rad) depends on the
type of the selected Organ Program.
A filming layout can only be selected if a camera is selected.

15
Figure 4: Exam editor Organ Program link

Test: Define an exam with more than 3 OGPs and set different values for this
parameter. Check if the parameter settings are handled correctly after successful
exposure.

For Organ Program with acquisition mode “Peri” the link parameter “automatic switch to
next Organ Program after acquisition” cannot be set. Organ Program for “Peri” must
stay active after acquisition.
Test: Check that link parameter “automatic switch to next Organ Program after
acquisition” cannot be set for “Peri” Organ Program.
Check if the parameter settings are handled correctly after successful exposure.

16
Default Exams
Up to 8 exams can be defined as default exams. The user can define an exam as
default exam by selecting tab card “Default Exams” and then double click an exam in
the“ examination view”. The selected exam is shown in the first free entry in the tab card
“Default Exams”. If no free entry is available the user is asked to delete one of the
former defined default exams. The same exam cannot be set twice as default exam. At
least 1 exam must be defined as default “Exam 1”.
Remark: For fluoro systems the default exam mechanism can be used to simulate
an Organ Program selection (on TUI) as known from the generator desk.
Therefore the user has to take care that only Organ Program with the
same "application type" setting are links to such an exam.

Figure 5: Exam Editor Default Exams

Test: Check defining and removing of defaults exams in all possible combinations.
Try to define more than 8 default exams. Try to remove all default exams.

17
Rearrange Default Exams
The buttons “move up” and “move down” are used to rearrange the default exams. This
is done by selecting an entry and pressing one of the two buttons, e.g. select “Exam 5”
and press button “move up”, the entries at “Exam 4” and “Exam 5” are exchanged. If
“Exam 1” is selected, button “move up” is not to use (dimmed). If “Exam 8” is selected or
the entry below the selection is empty, button “move down” is not to use (dimmed).
Empty entries cannot be moved.
Test: Check moving of default exam entries.
Check moving with respect to the restrictions defined above.

Delete Default Exams

Deletion of default exams is done by selecting an entry and pressing the button
“Delete”, or hitting the “Del”-key on the keyboard.
Test: Check deletion of any exam
Check deletion of last exam, at least 1 exam must be defined as default exam.

Display Organ Program Parameter

The tab card “Organ Program Parameter” offers the possibility to view the parameter of
a single Organ Program or the parameters of all OGPs of a selected exam. Additionally
the user can select one of the following parameter classes to be displayed via radio
buttons:
• X-ray parameter
• Image processing parameter
• Pre-settings
• All (of the above)
There is no possibility to change any parameter of the shown OGPs in this tab card.

Beside these parameters. For alternative OGP, if defined, the corresponding icons are also shown, see
Figure 7: Program editor general layout

If the user changes the acquisition mode, during a programming session, from one DR
mode to another DR mode (e.g. from “Single Shot” to “Series Native”) or from one DR
RAD mode to another DR RAD mode (e.g. “DR RAD” to “Tomography”), the displayed
parameter values does not change until another OGP is selected. Parameter values
which may conflict with the new acquisition mode change to their default values. Default
values are displayed for the parameters which are new in the selected acquisition
mode. The field “Program Name” will be empty until an OGP is selected or a new name
is typed in.
If no Organ Program and no Acquisition Mode is selected when the organ program
editor is started, then an empty layout (see above) is displayed.
In this case either an Organ Program or an Acquisition Mode can be selected.
The field “Program Name” will be empty until an Organ Program is selected or a new
name is typed in.
Test: Check that all acquisition modes are selectable.
Check that layout changes according to selected acquisition mode.
Check that icon corresponding to acquisition mode/application type is displayed.
Check that “reusable” parameter values do not change with the acquisition mode.
The following list of combinations of Acquisition Modes and Application Types is

After selection of the combination of Acquisition Mode and Application Type or an organ
program by name the corresponding editor layout is loaded.

If an Organ Program is selected, there is a possibility to change an existing Organ

Program from any combinations of Acquisition Modes and Application Types to any
other combinations.
Parameters which were not present in the former selected combinations of Acquisition
Modes and Application Types, will be set to a default value.
Parameter values which may conflict with the new combinations of Acquisition Modes
and Application Types change to their default values.
Test: Check that all combinations of Acquisition Modes and Application Types are
selectable.
Check that layout changes according to the selected combination of
Acquisition Modes and Application Types.
Check that “reusable” parameter values do not change with re-selection of
combinations of Acquisition Modes and Application Types.

Select OGP
There are different ways to select an Organ Program for modification:
• Select an Organ Program in Organ Program view of the tab card “Exam” and
switch to tab card “Organ Program”. The selected Organ Program is loaded into
the editor;
• Double click an Organ Program in Organ Program view of the tab card “Exam”,
the PEX automatically switches to tab card “Organ Program” and the selected
Organ Program is loaded into the editor;
• Select an Organ Program from drop down list “Program Name” on tab card
“Organ Program”, the selected Organ Program is loaded into the editor. The
content of the drop down list depends on the grouping criterion defined on tab
card “Exam” for OPG view. This means, that all Organ Programs which are
accessible by the current user (customer or IQ-expert) are shown in the list.
The order of the Organ Program in the list is defined by the grouping criterion
currently set for Organ Program view (tab card “Exam”). The currently selected
Organ Program (if any) is highlighted in the list. If no Organ Program is selected
(neither on tab card “Organ Program” nor on tab card “Exam” in OPG view) the
top of the list is displayed, no Organ Program is highlighted.
Moving the cursor inside the field “Program Name”, by clicking the left mouse
button, it switches from selection to edit mode for program name.
• If an Organ Program is already selected on tab card “Organ Program”, the
buttons “previous” and “next” are used to switch to the previous or next Organ
Program of the currently active drop down list for “Program Name.”

The parameters “Body Part Examined”, “Acquisition Mode” and “Application Type”
cannot be used for Organ Program selection.

Test: Check the different ways to select an OGP;

Check the contents of the drop down list “Program Name” for different grouping
criterions.

Store OGP
The button “Store” is used to save the parameter settings of the Organ Program
currently displayed under the name given in “Program Name”. The PEX editor must not
check any Organ Program parameters against each other. But the PEX user interface
has to ensure, that only valid parameter values can be selected/entered by the user. A
parameter value is regarded as valid,
 if the current value is inside its range, and
 if the conditions defined in the data tables are fulfilled.

For each parameter a default value must be defined. It is not possible to store
incomplete Organ Programs in the database.

Test: Check the saving of OGPs;

Check if the default values are used, when e.g. field content is deleted and

26
storing is attempted.
Create OGP
The button “Store as new” is used to create a new Organ Program. The system checks
the Organ Program name. If it exists already in the database the user is requested to
enter a new name. The user has to press the button “Store as new” again to confirm the
changed Organ Program name. If the new name is accepted the system checks the
parameter settings as described above (see button “Store”). For languages is defined:
• online version: use language configured on FLC
• offline version: use language selected in PEX configuration
• general:
o customer defined names must not change with language
reconfiguration;
o SIEMENS default Organ Program must have a unique postfix, e.g. “_S”.
o This postfix cannot be set by the customer.

Test: Check the creation of new OGPs with valid and invalid parameter combinations
and with new and already existing program names;
Check usage of postfix.

Print OGP
The button “Print” is used to print the currently displayed Organ Program on the paper
printer. The format of the printout is a screenshot of the current layout of the program
editor. For online version “Print” is only possible with license “Paperprint”, For
offline version button “Print” is enabled, printing depends on the local computer settings.

Test: Make paper prints of all possible layouts of the program editor and compare
the printout with the screen display.

Delete OGP
The button “Delete” is used to delete the currently displayed OGP/dataset from the
database. After pressing button “Delete” a window pops up which must be confirmed by
the user before deletion. It is be possible to delete the last Organ Program of an
acquisition mode; in other words, there has to be at least one Organ Program for each
acquisition mode in the database. After deletion of an Organ Program all exams must
be checked and the links to this Organ Program must be removed. If Organ Program
deletion results in an empty exams, this exam will be handled as described above (see
remove OGP).

Test: Delete datasets, confirm and cancel the deletion. Check that it will not be
possible to delete the last Organ Program for the selected acquisition mode

27
Goto Previous / Next OGP
The buttons “previous” and “next” are used to switch to the previous or next Organ
Program according to the grouping selection defined on tab card “Exam” for “Organ
Program view”. If the first Organ Program is selected, the button “previous” becomes
inactive, if the last Organ Program is selected, the button “next”
becomes inactive.
Test: Change to previous/next Organ Program.
Check button states with first/last Organ Program selected.

Define Alternative OGP

The user may define an alternative OGP for another or the same application type. This
is done by pressing the button below the drop list for alternative OGP selection. A
popup shows the selectable combinations of “acquisition mode” and “application type”
by icons (see Table 3). After selecting an icon, the drop list can be used to select an
OGP for this combination of “acquisition mode” and “application type”. The OGPs in the
drop list are grouped by “body part examined”. The visible part of the drop list shows the
OGP with the same “body part examined” as the current OGP. But OGP with different
values for “body part examined” are also selectable as alternative OGP. The button
shows the selected icon.
The selection of an OGP automatically links this OGP to the current selected OGP as
alternative OGP and vice versa. If the “empty” icon is selected the link between OGP
and alternative OGP is removed. If the user selects the button showing the arrow icon,
the alternative OGP is loaded into the editor. If there are unsaved changes to the OGP,
the user is asked to save the OGP before switching to the alternative OGP. All fields in
the editor are updated and the former OGP is shown as alternative for the current one.
The following restrictions for alternative OGP combinations are defined:
• An OGP may have up to three alternatives;
• All OGP with an acquisition mode for RAD may be combined as alternatives;
• No alternative OGP can be defined for an OGP for Fluoro acquisition;
• An OGP for Fluoro acquisition cannot be set as alternative OGP

Figure 8: Layout of "Empty" button

Test: Define alternative OGPs, switch to the alternative OGP and check its alternative
OGP;
Check deletion of alternative OGP definitions.

For some Organ Programs alternate Organ Programs can be defined (only within the
Category RAD). The definition of alternate Organ Programs is limed to the combinations
of Acquisition Modes and Application Types of the Organ Program: Table 4 and Table 5
describe the combinations of Acquisition Modes and Application Types (marked with
“A”), which allows to define alternate Organ Programs.
Up to 3 alternative Organ Programs for the currently selected Organ Program with the
same or a different combinations of Acquisition Modes and Application Types can be
defined.

28
An alternate Program can be selected by choosing an Organ Program with the
dropdown list of alternate Organ Programs.
This dropdown list contains all Organ Programs for a preselected combinations of
Acquisition Modes and Application Types plus an empty entry to remove an already
selected alternate Organ Program.
A selection of an Organ Program as an alternate automatically links this Organ Program
to the current selected Organ Program as alternative Organ Program and vice versa. If
the “empty” Organ Program is selected, the link between the Organ Program and
alternative Organ Program is removed. (zu löschen)????

The displayed Organ Programs in the drop down list is filtered (optional) according the
combinations of Acquisition Modes and Application Types, the filter criteria are
displayed by two drop down button lists.
The drop down lists for combinations of Acquisition Modes and Application Types will
contain all optional combinations plus an empty entry to disable the filter criteria. If the
drop down list for the filter of combinations will be opened, the list shows all possible
alternate combinations of Acquisition Modes and Application Type (see Table 4 and
Table 5) for currently active Organ Program on the active system.
After selecting of an entry for the filter of the combinations of Acquisition Modes and
Application Types which differ to the currently combinations of Acquisition Modes and
Application Types for the alternate Organ Program, the current linked alternate Organ
Program will be removed, the content of the drop list of Organ Programs (if opened)
changes to the newly selected combination of Acquisition Mode and Application Type.

Test: Define alternative OGPs, switch to the alternative Organ Program and check
its alternative OGP;
Check deletion of alternative Organ Program definitions.

If the user selects the button for displaying the content of the alternate Organ Program,
the alternative Organ Program is loaded into the editor. If there are unsaved changes to
the Organ Program the user is asked to save the Organ Program before switching to
the alternative Organ Program. All fields in the editor are updated and the former Organ
Program is shown as alternative for the current one.

Acquisition Mode DR Dual Energy
For dual energy acquisition an Organ Program set is needed. The first two Organ
Programs in this set define the parameter settings for the high energy and low energy
exposures. In the third and fourth Organ Program only image processing parameters
are defined for calculating the soft tissue and bone image. These two images are
calculated from the two exposures taken with Organ Program 1 (high energy) and
Organ Program 2 (low energy).
A dual energy acquisition results in 4 images, two exposed and 2 calculated. For dual
energy programs the same parameters as for acquisition mode “DR RAD” are used.
The user may switch between the Organ Program of a dual energy program set by
selecting the corresponding sub-tab card in the organ program editor. Each sub-tab
card shows a complete set of parameters. In sub-tab card 3 and 4 only image
processing parameters can be set, the others are dimmed and not settable.

valid stand position (indicated in XCU telegram) can be stored. The user is
notified, if the current stand position is invalid.
• Spatial Frequency Parameter
• Gradation Parameter
• EXI Parameter: this module defines the upper and lower limit for controlling the
clinical EXI value.

Parameter types and ranges are defined in the data section of this document. The
“Gradation Parameter” modules cannot be changed in customer mode in VF10. The
buttons in each module have the following meaning:

• Button “delete”: The currently selected entry is deleted from the data base
without further user request. Parameter set which are still in use (referenced in
any OGP) cannot be deleted. A corresponding user message will be displayed.
• Button “replace”: After modification of the selected entry, this button is used to
store the changes. For the modules “Spatial Frequency Parameter” and
“Gradation Parameter” the parameter “Identifier” cannot be modified by
pressing this button.
• Button “new”: This button is used to create a new entry for a parameter module.
The editor checks, if name and identifier (if present) are not jet defined for the
module. In customer mode the parameter identifier is automatically set by PEX
(prefix “c” followed by the next free number). Deleted, former identifier values
are re-used. In IQ-expert mode the identifier must be set by the user.

Test: For all modules check the function buttons as described above.
Check that the same name cannot be used twice in a module.
Check that the same identifier cannot be used twice in a module.
Check that the identifier cannot be changed using the button “replace”.

Configuration Editor
Configuration Parameter
The PEX editor offers a configuration tab card to define the system on which the
database is used. Also the functions for database import and database export are
located on this tab card. The settings on this tab card are used by the editors (e.g.
Exam, OGP) for parameter checks and restrictions on parameter ranges (e.g. available
acquisition modes). If some acquisition modes are not available in the system (e.g. no
wall stand or hardware defect), the PEX editor should indicate this on the UI (e.g. Organ
Program or exams for wall stand are displayed dimmed). But these exams and Organ
Program are still accessible by the user. The parameters and functions on this tab card
are grouped by the definitions below. There is no need to have a description of the
entire system. Only those parameters, which have direct impact on the data sets
managed by the PEX, are listed on the tab card.
For ranges and values of the parameters see [2], [4] and [8]. The parameter groups are:
• System identification parameter
• X-ray system description parameter
• FLC description parameter
• Database import and export functions

Test: Check that the parameter and function groups described above are available on
Tab card “Configuration”

System identification parameter

These parameters allow a unique identification of the system from which the database
was exported. The parameters cannot be set by the user. They are set by the FLC
application after system startup has finished. The parameters are updated after each
startup or if changed (hospital name can be changed in user settings of the FLC). At
least the following parameters belong to this group:

Table 6: System Identification Parameter

Remark: Additional parameters may be defined in design specification.

Test: Check that the defined parameters are visible on the tab card “Configuration”.
Check that the defined parameters are automatically set after system startup
(online mode).
Check that parameters are updated online if changed (e.g. hospital name)

56
X-ray system description parameter
These parameters describe the system configuration. The settings are used by the PEX
editor for parameter checks and range settings. If the PEX runs online the parameters
are set or updated by the FLC application after system startup. If the PEX runs offline
these parameters are set by the user, e.g. to define a new database for a specific
system. Parameter in this group are:

Table 7: X-Ray System Description Parameter

Remark: Additional parameters may be defined in design specification.

Test: Check that the defined parameters are visible on tab card “Configuration”.
Check that the defined parameters are automatically set after system startup (online mode).

FLC description parameter

The parameters of this group are managed by the FLC application (like options and
DICOM nodes). If the PEX runs online the parameters are set or updated by the FLC
application after system startup. If the PEX runs offline these parameters are set by the
user. Parameter in this group are:

Table 8: FLC Description Parameter

Remark: Additional parameters may be defined in design specification.

57
Remark: The access for the customer to functions or editor pages are handled via
license options and not via system types, like Iconos MD. E.g. Organ
Program for DSA or Peri can only be defined in customer mode, if these
license options are set.

o License options:
The PEX holds a list of all possible PEX data relevant licenses. These
licenses are: DSA, Peristepping, TomoFL-C, ScantechnikFL-C,
DicomSend, Paperprinter (additional licenses are available for NRF,
e.g. Ortho, Tomo, Dual Energy).
At each system start-up the FLC updates this list by setting a flag for each
license which indicates that this license is currently active in the system. If
the PEX runs offline it is up to the user to mark licenses as active or
inactive by setting/resetting the flags on the configuration page. At startup
time in offline mode the PEX shows the last state of the license settings
stored in the database.

o HCC configuration:
At each system start-up the FLC updates the current HCC configuration in
the PEX database. This is done by setting the values for film format (size)
and division for each camera (destination) defined in the FLC service
settings. In offline mode it is up to the user to set these values correctly.
The default for these values is the last stored configuration in the PEX
database.

Table 9: Country-specific Scale Units

Remark: The Table shows the impact of the scale unit setting on the UI (Organ
Program editor). Scale unit “inch” is used on the UI only. Parameter
ranges must be adapted for display (input and output). Values stored in the
database are not in scale unit “inch”.

Test: Check that the defined parameters are visible on tab card “Configuration”.
Check that the defined parameters are automatically set after system startup
(online mode).
Check that parameters are updated online if changed (e.g. license options)

Database import and export functions

Two function dialogs are offered for database import and export as described above.
Test: Check Import-/Export functions.

58
Offline Configuration
If the PEX editor runs offline, the parameters on tab card “Configuration” are read only
in viewing and customer mode. In IQ expert mode the parameters can be modified by
the user. Parameters set like hardcopy camera configuration or XCU parameter tables
can be loaded from files (e.g. text files) to the PEX database.

Test: Check restrictions on parameter modification in offline mode

Check that parameter sets can be loaded from files to PEX database.

Auto Update Configuration

An automatic update of the configuration parameters must be done after:
• System startup:
The FLC host application must update the configuration parameters after each
system startup to ensure that the PEX is informed about system configuration
changes. If the PEX has to provide a function to check the database against
the configuration settings. This function is called by the FLC host application.
The checks must not be executed if there is no change in configuration
settings. The check function runs in the background and must not avoid system
operation (emergency patient).
• Database import:
If a database is imported from another system or after offline modification, the
PEX must start a configuration parameter update. This is done by calling the
update function provided by the FLC host application. The database imported is
to check against the configuration parameter settings.
• Database restore:
If any database backup is restored, the configuration parameters have to be
updated. This is done by calling the update function provided by the FLC host
application. The database restored is to check against the configuration
parameter settings.

Test: Check the three automatic updates with different databases and system
configurations (e.g. add/remove any license, add/remove BWS).

Manual Update Configuration

A button for manual configuration parameter update is implemented on tab card
“Configuration.” Pressing the button starts the update function provided by the FLC host
application. After update the database is to check against the new configuration
settings. The manual update can only be done, if the PEX runs in IQ expert mode.

Test: Check the manual update with different system configurations (e.g. add/remove
any license, add/remove BWS).
Check that the button can only be used in IQ expert mode.

59
PEX Language Support
The PEX must support all languages which will be supported by the FLC. It should use
the same language configuration mechanism as implemented in the FLC application. All
UI tags and tool tips are implemented using this language file mechanism. For the
naming of the data entries (like exam, Organ Program or FPG) the following is defined:

• Valid only for VF10:

o SIEMENS default exams, organ programs and film layouts.
The names of these data entries are language dependent, in other
words, each Organ Program or Exam has a different (language
dependent) name for each configurable language, but the parameters
are the same for all languages.
o Customer specific exams, organ programs and film layouts:
The names of these data entries are language independent, in other
words, there is only one name for each configurable language. It is
assumed, that the user defined names are independent from the
configured language.
• Not valid for VF10:
o All exams, organ programs and film layouts are handled identically:
If a new exam, organ program or film layout will be created, the entered
name will be copied to all languages.
When changing one of these names afterwards only the string of the
current selected language will be changed.

Test: Check language dependence of “SIEMENS data”

Check language independence of “user data”.

60
Fluoro / Organ Program Data
Organ Program Data
Organ Program Parameter and Ranges for DFR
Programs (all DFR Acquisition Modes)
Simple dependencies shall be considered for the input of organ program entries:
Facts:
• Max mAs: 800
• Min ms = 20
• Max ms = 500 with FD
• Max ms = 5000 with cassette

Calculations:
The maximum mAs value also depends on the used focus and the tube load. It can be
calculated by multiplying the maximum current with the maximum exposure time and
the tube load.
The maximum current can be calculated by dividing the kW (40kW with small focus, 80
kW with large focus) by the used kV but it never exceeds 800 mA.
The maximum exposure time is 500 ms with the detector and 5000 ms with cassette.

Special case TOMO:

The exposure time is defined by the organ program. The minimum mAs value can be
calculated by multiplying the tomo time with 1 mA. The maximum mAs can be
calculated as described above but as the maximum exposure time the tomo time is
used.

Examples:
1. Detector organ program with 80 kV, large focus (80 kW) and 80% tube load
• Maximum current = 80 kW/80 kV = 1000 mA
But the maximum current is limited to 800 mA, so for further calculation 800 mA
has to be used.
• Maximum exposure time for detector is 500 ms
• Maximum mAs = 800 mA * 500 ms * 80% = 320 mAs
2. Detector organ program with 100 kV, small focus (40 kW) and 100 % tube load
• Maximum current = 40 kW/100 kV = 400 mA
• Maximum exposure time for detector is 500 ms
• Maximum mAs = 400 mA * 500 ms * 100% = 200 mAs
3. Tomo organ program with 80 kV, large focus (80 kW) and 80% tube load and 2500
ms tomo time.
• Maximum current = 80 kW/80 kV = 1000 mA
But the maximum current is limited to 800 mA, so for further calculation 800 mA
has to be used.
• Maximum exposure time is 2500 ms
• Maximum mAs = 800 mA * 2500 ms * 80% = 1600 mAs
But the maximum mAs value is limited to 800 mAs
 Minimum mAs = 1 mA * 2500 ms = 2,5 mAs

61
The dose settings in the OGPs for all DR modes are specified in uGy/p.

Test: Check that the selectable values for dose are given in uGy/p.
The parameter “autowindow” cannot be set in Organ Program for DSA it is always
“OFF”.
Test: Check that this parameter cannot be set in Organ Program for DSA.

Selecting one of the following Acquisition Modes

• DR series (FD) (DR single FD as part of DR series FD)
• DSA (FD)
• DR Peri, Phlepo (FD)
• DR single (II)
• DR series (II) (DR single II as part of DR series II)
• DSA (II)
• DR Peri, Phlepo (II)
• DR Scan (II)
• Card (II)
• Tomo (II)

activates the display of the data of the current selected Organ Program. The parameters
and ranges of these Acquisition Modes are shown in the table Table 10.

62
Table 10: DFR- Acquisition Mode Organ Program Parameters (FD and II Systems)

63
64
1) The parameter ranges for these Acquisition Modes are configured via init data. The
configuration updates the ranges to the different functionality supported by the used
subsystem. E.g. the data of available grids for different Acquisition Modes in a
dedicated system is sent to the FLC, then the editor supports the range of data setup.
Remark: The relationship between kV, mAs and ms does not depend on generator
power. Only values from the EP-tables defined in the XCU are selectable.

Table 11: Dependencies of Organ Parameters for Exposure Data from Fluoro FD Systems

Table 12: Frame Rate Combinations (FD systems only)

In an Organ Program only frame rates shown in one line of the table can be used.
Remark: Requirement was updated due to wrong description in the old text
(Category C)
Remark: Future version: 3f/s and 6f/s
Remark: This position is only used for post processing flips because Organ Program
flips will not be displayed as symbol on DFR images
Test: Check all available values, selections and ranges.
If the user defines more than one framerate (“Acquisition Rate”) in an series OGP,
the maximum value for “Scene length” is defined by the highest framerate.
Test: Check that the maximum scene length depends on the highest framerate
selected. The highest framerate shall be set for framerate 1, 2 and 3.

For DR Scan Organ Program parameters the following restrictions are defined:
• VF10: The frame rate is not changeable, fix 2 f/s;
VF20: The frame rate is changeable, allowed values: 2 f/s and 3 f/s.
Remark: 3/fs depends on availability of this conditioning mode (current
restriction in VF10/Iconos FD Phase 1, but planned for VF20/Iconos Phase 2)
• The collimation height is not changeable; default value is defined in service
mode. (Restriction for VF10: 6cm)
• The collimation width is changeable; default value “no change”.
• The scan speed is 4 or 6 cm/s
• Max pulse width is limited to 50 ms, default: 30 ms
• The following combinations of “Scan mode” and “Scan direction” are allowed:
- Spine: .......................................... “feet to head”
- Leg: ............................................. “head to feed”
- Colon:.......................................... both
Test: Check that these restrictions are implemented.

66
Selection of measuring fields for DFR modes
For all DFR modes (e.g. single, series, DSA) the user selects a measuring field
combination by a drop down list. The drop down list contains all possible measuring
field combinations for the selected acquisition mode. The currently selected measuring
field combination is marked in the drop down list. After selection of an measuring field
combination, the drop down list is closed and the selected measuring field is displayed
in the editor.

Remark: Requirement was updated due to wrong description in the old text
(Categorie C)
Test: Change the SDM selection and check if the selected SDM is displayed in the
editor.

For DFR acquisition modes (incl. fluoro) in the FD systems the following measuring field
combinations are offered in a dropdown list:

1) The parameter ranges for these Acquisition Modes are configured via init data. The
configuration will date the ranges to the different functionality supported by the used
subsystem. E.g. the data of available grids for different Acquisition Modes in a
dedicated system are sent to the FLC, then the editor supports the range of data
setup.
2) The relation of Patient, Viewing Position and Display Indicator is described in the
tables in the chapter appendix for the patient position “undefined” and the 16
“defined” patient positions describes the “anatomic correct view” image operation
(green line) in relation to the patient position. Additionally all other image flip and
rotation combination are listed (column PEX editor).

Remark: The relationship between kV, mAs and ms does not depend on tube or
generator. Only values from the EP-tables defined in XCU are selectable.

Remark: OPEN ISSUE for parameter 18: 100cm has not been confirmed by IC;
115cm was the goal. To be checked during IT

72
Selection of measuring fields for Rad modes
The user selects a measuring field combination by a drop down list. The drop down list
contains all possible measuring field combinations for the selected application type. The
currently selected measuring field combination is marked in the drop down list. After
selection of a measuring field combination the drop down list is closed and the selected
measuring field is displayed in the editor.

Test: Change the SDM selection and check if the selected SDM is displayed in the
editor.

For application type of different systems the following measurement field combinations
is offered in the dropdown list.

Remark: Requirement was updated due to wrong description in the old text (Category C)

73
Tomography for Rad modes
For the Acquisition Mode DR Rad Tomo (FD) the Organ Program parameters are the
parameters for DRAD table and the parameter combination for tomo-time and tomo-
angle. Tomo-height cannot be set via Organ Program for Iconos FD systems. For NRF
systems the Tomo-height is adjustable in a range from 3mm to 250 mm. One of the
following parameter combinations can be set for time and angle:

Table 15: Tomo Parameter (Iconos FD/ NRF)

Remark: Requirement was updated for a better description (Category A)

Test: Check that all 6 parameter combinations are available and can be set.

Tracking for Rad modes

This parameter is used to preselect plane tracking via Organ Program. An Organ
Program with plane tracking selected activates the plane tracking function in the
system, when it becomes active. Plane tracking can be set in the Organ Program for the
Application Types table and wall stand. For other application types the selection of this
parameter is disabled.
Test: Check parameter setting for different application types.
Check activation of plane tracking in the system.
This parameter is used to preselect SID tracking via Organ Program. An Organ
Program with SID tracking selected activates the SID tracking function in the system,
when it becomes active. SID tracking can be set in Organ Program for the application
types table, wall stand, vertical and lateral. For other application types the selection of
this parameter is disabled.
Test: Check parameter setting for different application types.
Check activation of SID tracking in the system.

74
Patient Position for Rad modes (FD)

Table 17: Relation of Patient, Viewing Position

The display indicator is a hint for the user, how the image will be displayed at the
monitor. The display indicators shown in the table are examples and only valid if no
additional flip or rotation is selected. With selection of flip or rotation the display indicator
must change accordingly.
If no patient position is defined, the display indicators may look like described in [6].
These display indicators correspond to the settings for flip and rotate.

Multi technique support

As the user changes often the technique during acquisition, e.g. from 1pt to 2pt/3pt or
vice versa, it is possible to store the Organ Program parameters for different techniques
in one Organ Program. The data for the techniques
• 1pt with/without current reduction
• 2 pt
• 3 pt with/without AEC
can be defined and stored in one Organ Program. The following Organ Program
parameters are part of the multi technique support:
• Technique
• Dominant
• kV
• mAs
• ms
• Exposure correction
• Dose

75
The following workflow is an example how the setting of these parameters can be done:
• Create new OGP
• Select 1-point technique
• Define parameter:
o kV
o Dominant
o Exposure correction
o Dose
• Select 2-point technique
• Define parameter
o mAs
• Select 3-point technique
• Define parameter
o ms
• Select 1-point technique
• Store Organ Program (Organ Program is stored as 1-point technique)
The values defined for “Dominant”, “Exposure correction” and “Dose” are used for
1-point technique and 3-point technique with AEC.

Test: Define an Organ Program for multi technique support (e.g. with workflow
defined above).
Check that the parameters for all techniques are stored in the database.
Select this Organ Program in examination mode, do acquisition for all
techniques;
Check that the acquisition is done with the parameters defined in Organ
Program for each technique.

Organ Program Set for Ortho

For Ortho Organ Program sets some values can only be set for Organ Program 1 (step
1). In the other Organ Program (step2 to step 4) these values are displayed dimmed
and cannot be changed. The ranges of the Organ Program parameter are defined in
Table 13 or, if different, mentioned in column “Condition”. The entries for the columns
“Step1” to “Step 4” of Table 18 have the following meaning:
• “S”: values can be set for this Ortho step
• “D”: display only, not changeable (dimmed)
• “-“: parameter not present in Ortho OGP

76
Table 18: Organ Program Parameter Restrictions for Rad Acquisition Mode DR Rad Ortho (FD) / (FDp)

77
Test: Check restrictions for parameter settings in the Ortho step Organ Program.

Organ Program Set for Dual Energy

• An organ program set for dual energy exposures consists of two Organ
Programs for exposure (HEI, LEI) and two Organ Programs for image
processing (M1I, M2I). The possible parameter settings and restrictions are
defined below.
• For dual energy Organ Program sets the x-ray parameters can only be set for
Organ Program 1 (HEI: high energy image) and Organ Program 2 (LEI: low
energy image). In the other Organ Program (M1I: soft tissue and M2I: bone)
only image processing parameters can be set. The other parameters are
displayed dimmed and cannot be changed. The ranges of the Organ Program
parameter are defined in Table 13 or, if different, mentioned in column
“Condition”. The entries for the columns “HEI”, “LEI”, “M1I” and “M2I” of Table
19 have the following meaning:
• “S”: values can be set for this dual energy OGP
• “D”: display only, not changeable (dimmed)
• “-“: parameter not present in OGP, dimmed no value is shown

Fluoro Program Data (II + FD Systems)

Selecting the fluoro mode (fluoro, roadmap) in the field acquisition mode activates the
display of the data of the current selected fluoro program. The parameters and ranges
of a FPG for fluoro are shown in the table below.

80
Table 20: Fluoro Program Parameters II + FD Systems

81
Remark: RM- Mask Image is stored after 2 sec with transition from phase 1 to phase 2
for all framerates and all fluoro modes.
Remark: Fluoro Harmonization (DDO) is possible up to 30 images/sec
Remark: with m = 0 the dose/pulse is constant
with m = 1 the dose rate remains constant

Test: Check parameters and ranges

The FPG parameters dose per pulse, rate index, fluoro curve, copper filter and frame
rate can only be changed if the editor runs in SIEMENS IQ expert mode.

Test: Check that these parameters and can only be changed in SIEMENS IQ expert
mode

Parameter Module Data

The Parameter Modules are Data which are linked with Organ Programs. They can be
combined with different Organ Programs (Acquisition Modes). These are described in
Table 13.

82
Gradation Parameter Module
The following parameter can be defined in the Gradation parameter module:

Table 21: Gradation Parameter (LUT)

7) System will be removed, as the generation of Organ Programs is not related to the
system (last 3 columns)

Remark: The parameter “Identifier” is only settable by the user, if the PEX runs in
IQ expert mode. If the PEX runs in customer mode, this parameter is
automatically set by the PEX, if button “Store as new” is pressed. In this
case, the prefix is always ‘c’ and the next free number is used to complete
the identifier.

Remark: No change for VF10, table was moved from requirement.

Test: Check all available values, selections and ranges.

Do this in both user roles.

83
Spatial Frequency Parameter Module
The following parameter can be defined in the Spatial Frequency parameter module:

Table 22: Spatial Frequency Parameter

8) System is removed, as the generation of Organ Programs is not related to the system
(last 3 columns)

Remark: The parameter “Identifier” is only settable by the user, if the PEX runs in
IQ expert mode. If the PEX runs in customer mode, this parameter is
automatically set by the PEX, if button “Store as new” is pressed. In this
case, the prefix is always ‘c’ and the next free number is used to complete
the identifier.

Remark: No change for VF10, table was moved from requirement.

Test: Check all available values, selections and ranges.

9) System is removed, as the generation of Organ Programs is not related to the system
(last 3 columns)

Remark: The parameter “Identifier” is only settable by the user, if the PEX runs in
IQ expert mode. If the PEX runs in customer mode this parameter is
automatically set by the PEX, if button “Store as new” is pressed. In this
case, the prefix is always ‘c’ and the next free number is used to complete
the identifier.

Test: Check all available values, selections and ranges.

Do this in both user roles.

Stand Position Parameter Module

The following parameter can be defined in the Stand position parameter module:

10) System is removed, as the generation of Organ Programs is not related to the
system (last 3 columns)

85
Remark: No change for VF10, table was moved from requirement.

Test: Check all available values, selections and ranges.

Define different stand positions, link them to different Organ Program and check if
the position is transferred to the system after activating the Organ Program.

Migration of Databases
The system provides means to migrate the data content of current Aristos systems into
the new PEX data structure. This can be done manually (not preferred) or by
implementing a tool to transform the Aristos Organ Program into the PEX Organ
Program data structure.
The tool may be implemented as a simple command line tool without any Windows®
like UI. The resulting PEX database has to be checked by an IQ expert before it can be
used at any system.

Remark: This tool is totally independent from the PEX software and it is not part
of the PEX software delivery. It must not be tested within SSIT or SIT. It
is only a helpful tool for Organ Program authors to get started with the
PEX based on the data currently defined for Aristos systems.
