4.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter explains how we planned the spaces for the aquarium in Duhok. The main
components were chosen based on similar examples discussed in Chapter Two. These
components (commercial, educational, administration, entertainment, service and animal
care facilities). The total site area available for the project is 25,000 square meters. We will
also look at the smaller spaces within each part to understand their use. After deciding the area
for each space, we will create a bubble diagram to show how the spaces are arranged on the
site and a flow chart to explain how people and staff move through the aquarium.

Catchment area: Duhok city.
Based on the recent census of populations in 2024 the growth rate of Duhok city is 2.54%.
The estimated population for Duhok city after 30 years would be approximately 3.18 million
people, assuming a 2.54% annual growth rate.
Percentage likely to visiting the spaces similar to an aquarium is 20%, out of this group
approximately could visit the aquarium = 5% of 3.18 million = 159,000 visitors annually.
Daily visitors = 159,000 visitor annually / 365 days ≈ 435 visitors per day.
The visitors will not enter the aquarium all at the same time, they will be divided into two
groups of 217 visitors:
The space program will be designed based on accommodating 217 visitors per shift.

4.3 AREA CALCULATIONS
After the main components are chosen and it is determined which spaces will be included
within each component, the required area for each space is determined based on the number
of users. This can be guided by standards or drawn from similar examples.

This chapter explained each main component and created a space program for the project.
Components were selected based on similar examples from Chapter 2, with extra spaces like a
restaurant and dolphinarium added to meet project needs. Space areas were determined using
standards and similar examples, with additional examples used for the dolphinarium. The
chapter also included a relationship matrix and bubble diagrams to show spatial relationships
within the aquarium. The total built-up area was calculated as 16,706 square meters.
