Lab Report STS

The lab report investigates how students learn to navigate a finger maze while blindfolded, measuring the time taken across multiple trials to assess motor skill efficiency. Results show variability in completion times among students, indicating that while some displayed consistent patterns, others had significant fluctuations. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of maintaining a consistent environment for accurate motor skill assessment and suggests that repeated trials help students adapt and improve their performance.

Lab Report – Lívia Verli

Title: Learning using a finger maze

Aim: The purpose of the activity was to find out how much time it takes to students
learn to complete the finger maze and how well was the efficiency of the motor skills.

Method:
- Necessary instruments —> finger maze
—>stop clock

—>blindfold

—>paper and pen

- Instructions —> 1. collect the instruments listed above

2. Blindfold the student, and prepare the stopwatch
3. Put the student’s finger in the start point in the finger maze
4. Start the stop clock until the student finish the finger maze
5. Register in each try the time taken
6. Repete this method ten times in a row
7. Analyse and compare your results

Results:
TRY 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
1st 28 24 126 20 115 34 57
2nd 26 25 22 13 40 28 10

Conclusion:
The pattern will not be so accurate since each person had their own way of letting the
skills manage the finger maze. In the graph we can see that some students took a longer
time, and the highs and lows have a large difference, however there's a lot of people
with a constant pattern. But all of them (ones with a larger difference, others not) have
those high and lows alternating according to the tries. So, we can say that the motor
skills can be efficient to help the difference in variations in trying to be smaller, and to
keep a more constant speed.

Evaluation:
The experiment requires the same finger maze, the same finger and the same student,
because if any of these are different, the motor skills will not be able to be effective,
since it only can manage to "memorize" the direction with the same "environment" and
repetition. And the same thing is with being blindfold, the motor skills will only be
"activated" because it is a matter of need, but with vision we don't need the motor skills,
since we do not need to memorize anything.

There were several trials, for the students get used to it and see how well and how many
trials were necessary for the motor skills to activate. The whole class did it, so the
analyses would be more accurate.
