a. Photos sent on day 1 = 459 459
Photos sent on day 2 = 765
Total number of photos sent by the robot = 459 + 765 = 1224 + 765
Hence, the robot sent 1224 photos in all.

b. Total number of batteries fitted on the robot = 500 500

Number of batteries that have died out = 324
Number of batteries still working = 500 - 324 = 176 - 324
Hence, 176 batteries on the robot are still working.

• 2023 – 1937 = 86. So, photocopier was invented 86 years ago.
• 2023 – 1946 = 77. So, microwave oven was invented 77 years ago.
• 2023 – 1834 = 189. So, refrigerator was invented 189 years ago.
• 2023 – 1888 = 135. So, ball point pen was invented 135 years ago.
• 2023 – 1679 = 344. So, pressure cooker was invented 344 years ago.
• 2023 – 1593 = 430. So, thermometer was invented 430 years ago.

Data Connect (p. 30)

• Bengaluru to Delhi = 1741 km and Bengaluru to Mumbai = 1163 km. Now, 1741 – 1163 =
578. Hence, a plane from Bengaluru to Delhi travels 578 km more than a plane from
Bengaluru to Mumbai.
• Chennai to Hyderabad = 511 km and Chennai to Bengaluru = 284 km. Now, 511 – 284 = 227.
Hence, the journey from Chennai to Bengaluru is shorter than a journey from Chennai to
Hyderabad by 227 km.
• Delhi to Hyderabad = 1165 km and Hyderabad to Chennai = 511 km. Now, 1165 + 511 =
1676. Hence, the plane from Delhi to Chennai via Hyderabad will fly a total of 1676 km.

Exercise 2E

1. a.

Bill
Change received
Shirt ₹220.00
Amount paid ₹800.00

Bill amount ₹735 50

Pant ₹350.50

Tie ₹165.00

Total ₹735.50

Hence, the total bill amount is ₹735.50 and the amount received as change is ₹64.50.

b.

Bill
Change received
Umbrella ₹245.50
Amount paid ₹700.00
Raincoat ₹160.50
Bill amount ₹556 50
Gumboots ₹150.50

Total ₹556.50

Hence, the total bill amount is ₹556.50 and the amount received as change is ₹143.50.

2.
Number of notes and coins

₹50 ₹20 ₹10 ₹5

9 2 Use ₹5 and ₹10

4 2 Use ₹10 and ₹20

4 1 2 Use ₹20, ₹10, and ₹5

1 2 1 Use ₹50, ₹20, and ₹10

3. a.
₹50,928
Amount received by the bank = ₹50,928
Amount given out by the bank = ₹45,021 − ₹45,021

Hence, the bank received ₹5,907 more than the amount given out by it.
b.
Money in Mr Khan’s bank account = ₹9,231 ₹9,231
The amount he wants to leave in his account = ₹2,500 ₹2,500

Hence, the amount he can withdraw = ₹9,231 – ₹2,500 = ₹6,731.

c.
Amount paid by Mehtas for the new fridge = ₹16,756 ₹16,756
Exchange value of the old fridge = ₹2,300
+ ₹ 2,300
Hence, the cost of the new fridge = ₹16,756 + ₹2,300 = ₹19,056.

d.
The amount spent by the Mathew Family on day 1 = ₹1,245 ₹1,245
The amount spent on day 2 + day 3 = ₹2,457
The amount spent on day 4 = ₹1,980 ₹2,457
Hence, total money spent by the Mathew family = ₹1,245 + ₹2,457 + ₹1,980
₹1 980
= ₹5,682

Challenge (p. 36)

Dinesh has 7 coins and Kabir has 5 coins.

If Dinesh gives one coin to Kabir, they both will have 6 coins each. If Kabir gives one coin to
Dinesh, Kabir will be left with 4 coins whereas Dinesh will have 8 coins.

Exercise 2F
1. Number of idlis ordered by Mrs Mathew = 275
Number of samosas ordered were 125 less than the idlis. So, we need to subtract here.
Number of samosas ordered = 275 – 125 = 150
Hence, Mrs Mathew ordered 150 samosas.

Check:
Number of samosas + 125 = 150 + 125 = 275 = number of idlis.
Hence, the answer is correct.

2. Money in hand = ₹750

Money needed to buy the sweater and the jacket = ₹455 + ₹570 = ₹1025
The money required to buy both the sweater and the jacket is more than the money in hand.
To find out how much more money is required, we need to subtract.
Shortage of money = ₹1025 – ₹750 = ₹275
So, ₹275 more is required to buy both the sweater and the jacket.

Check:
₹750 + ₹275 = ₹1025 = money needed to buy both the sweater and the jacket.
Hence, the answer is correct.

3. Amber’s throw = 25 m
Ankita threw the ball three times as far. To find out how far Ankita threw, we need to
multiply.
Ankita’s throw = 3 × 25 m = 75 m
Hence, Ankita threw the ball to a distance of 75 m.

Check:
75 ÷ 3 = 25. Hence, the answer is correct.

4. Initial charge on the laptop = 75 minutes

Additional charge done = 95 minutes
Step 1: We need to add to find the total charge on the laptop.
Total minutes of charge on the laptop = 75 minutes + 95 minutes = 170 minutes
Step 2: The laptop was used for 112 minutes. We need to subtract this from the total charge
on the laptop to find out the charge left on the laptop.
Charge left on the laptop = 170 minutes – 112 minutes = 58 minutes
Hence, 58 minutes of charge is still available on the laptop.
Check:
Laptop usage + charge left = 112 minutes + 58 minutes = 170 minutes = total charge on the
laptop before use.
Total charge – time for which it was charged = 170 minutes – 95 minutes = 75 minutes =
initial charge on the laptop.
Hence, the answer is correct.

5. Number of questions practised by Rashid per day = 8

Step 1: To find the number of questions practised by Rashid in 5 days, we need to multiply.
Number of questions practised by Rohan per day = 5 × 8 = 40
Step 2: Rohan practised 12 fewer questions than Rashid. To find the number of questions
practised by Rohan, we need to subtract.
Number of questions practised by Rohan = 40 – 12 = 28
Hence, Rohan practised 28 questions during the 5 days.

Check:
28 + 12 = 40
40 ÷ 5 = 8
Hence, the answer is correct.
