Automatic Recirculation Valve
with check valve in the bypass
Installation and Operating Instructions 40668
As soon as the main flow falls below a predetermined rate, the valve opens its bypass sufficiently to maintain
the required pump minimum flow rate, even if the main flow is zero.
b) Function
The non-return cone pos. 3 (see ill. 7) of the Automatic Recirculation Valve is kept at a determined level by the
main flow. The cone only responds to the flow in main direction and not to the manometric pressures, which
makes the valve suitable for seed-controlled applications. The non-return cone activates the Rotary Slide
Valve (Pos. 13) in the bypass branch by means of a lever. If the cone is positioned on the seat, the Rotary
Slide Valve is completely open. The required minimum flow of the pump Qby resp. Qmin is delivered via the
bypass. The cone rises with increasing main flow thus closing the bypass more and more (modulating bypass
control).
The branching of the flow ends as soon as the main flow exceeds the pump’s minimum flow; the bypass is
then closed. Vice versa the bypass opens again, as soon as the main flow falls below the required minimum
flow.
The data indicated on the name plate under section 5 "Marking of the Valve" have been taken as a basis for
the correct functioning of this application.
In case of different operating data we recommend to consult us, so that the valve can be individually adjusted
to the modified operating conditions.

2. Guarantee
With regard to the hydraulic, the valve has been designed based on the operating data stated in section 5.
If you intend to use this valve for operating conditions other the intended ones based on these data, then a
technical review by Schroeder Valves GmbH & Co. KG is imperative. If the valve is applied for other conditions
without prior consultation, any guarantee claim for this valve or the function expires.
Any work on the valve executed during the agreed guarantee period has to be in accordance with the present
document. Unless otherwise agreed in the purchase order our warranty is for 8000 operating hours or for a period
of a maximum 24 months after delivery .
The warranty does not apply to damages attributable to improper treatment, improper use, soiling in the medium
and natural wear.
3. Safety information
3.1 The operator is responsible for the observation of the security regulations at site.
3.2 The assembly personnel must be sufficiently qualified and trained.
3.3 No force- and moment-free loads, as well as loads caused by traffic, wind or earthquakes, have been
taken into consideration in the design of the Automatic Recirculation Valve in accordance with the
regulations for pressure devices.
3.4 Before assembly / dismantling of the valve the system has to be depressurised. The temperature of
the surfaces and of the medium has to be lowered to room temperature.
3.5 The valve is supplied without insulation and protection against contact In case of temperatures strongly
deviating from the ambient temperature, the operator has to supply an insulation and a protection
against contact before start-up..
3.6 If the valve is operated with fluids hazardous for humans or the environment, a visible warning sign
has to be provided by the operator close by the valve.
3.7 For the assembly suitable and tested lifting equipments are to be used, depending on the valve
weight (please also see section 10 "Installation Instructions").
3.8 Suitable facilities for draining and de-aeration are to be provided near the valve in the piping.
3.9 During dismantling a residue of the medium still may be found above the cone. If the medium is
hazardous for humans or the environment, appropriate security measures have to be taken.
3.10 The operator has to provide safety devices, such as pressure relief valves, pressure gauges and
temperature monitoring devices in the system.
3.11 The valve is designed for a continuous operation with static pressure load.
3.12 The function of the valve can be affected by pollution and solids. Therefore we recommend to filter
the medium before it enters the valve with filters with a maximum mesh width of 0.3 mm.
3.13 The valve has to be inspected at regular intervals according to local and legal safety regulations.
Especially the pressure bearing parts and connecting parts are to be checked for wear and corrosion.
3.14 Spare parts are to be used according to the parts listed related to the order. They are to be
obtained exclusively from our company or from dealers authorized by us.
3.15 Any other than the intended use of the valve is not admissible.

4. Marking of the valve
The Automatic Recirculation Valve has a name plate with all relevant valve data. The following illustration
shows the name plate of the first valve of the lot size. If more than one valve is supplied, the manuf.-No
varies accordingly.
As a rule the name plate is made of aluminium and fastened with 4 notch nails on the lower casing.
In addition a hard stamp of the manuf. No is behind the name plate to make it possible to identify the valve in
loss of the name plate.
When ordering spare parts it is imperative that you give us the manuf.-No.
Via the QR-Code on the respective name plate and the operating instructions you can send us an e-mail, which
already contains the correct manuf.-No.
Additionally the flanges of the valves are stamped with material data (material, batch-no., sample no.)
and the respective branch name with nominal diameter indication.

6. Delivery / Packing
The flange openings are closed with plastic caps. The inside of the valve is protected against corrosion in a
dry condition by means of a means of preservation. This preservation is sufficient for indoor and ventilated
storage for up to 6 months. Longer storage requires an appropriate packing and this should be stated with
the order.
8. Start-up
The Starting-up of the Automatic Recirculation Valve is always done together with the pump. During start-
up against a closed gate in the main line a predetermined quantity, the bypass quantity, has to
flow via the bypass line. The correct closing and opening of the bypass should not only be controlled
During start-up, but also at regular intervals later on (a flow noise to be heard).
Attention! Start-up against a closed main control valve does not only make sense when starting the
System. During normal operation as well should the start-up and the stopping be done against a closed
main control valve, in order to avoid e.g. pressure/fluid hammers.
Attention! Before switching to the automatic bypass it has to be made sure that it is fully functional
and monitored. Otherwise the pumps might be damaged.

After loosening the four screws (Pos. 91.2) the branch (Pos. 10) can be pulled off to the side and the throttle
(Pos.16) with valve (Pos.17) with O-ring (Pos. 78.2) can be removed from the branch. In case of a metallic
sealing no O-ring is required.
Attention! The spring (Pos95.3) is under tension
Pull the bypass valve head (Pos.12) or Start-Up-Trim from the bottom part of the casing (Pos. 1). Should the
bypass valve head be stuck, loosen it by slightly tapping its side with a hammer.
Attention! There is a metallic packing between the bottom part (Pos.1) and the bypass valve head. It has
to be made sure that the packing surfaces are not damaged. If necessary rework them!
If possible do not dismantle the bypass valve head; however should this become necessary, make sure to
note the exact position of components 12, 13 and 14 towards each other and re-assemble them in exactly
the same way using a new grooved dowel pin Pos.94.1 as well as a new O-ring (Pos.78.3).
In Pos.12 is an opening, through which the dowel pin (Pos.94.1) can be driven out.

Illustration 3a
Component parts have to be free from any adherent soiling that might impede their proper functioning.
First thread the lever (Pos.14) into the slot of the cone stem (Pos.3) and then place the complete bypass
valve head (Pos.60) into the opening of the casing. When doing this, watch the position of the pin (Pos.94.2).
This has to be in a central position and point upwards.
With weak spring tensions insert the spring Pos.95.3, the valve Pos.17, the O-ring Pos.78.2 and the throttle
Pos.16 into the branch Pos.10 and position the branch on the casing. Press it against the spring tension,
screw the screws Pos.91.2 in and tighten them. In case of strong spring tensions, use the threaded rod, the
bracket and the nut again. Hold the spring Pos.95.3 with the valve Pos.17 in the branch Pos.10, then insert
the O-ring Pos.78.2 and the throttle Pos.16. Position the branch on the casing, making sure of the correct
assembly position of the parts.
The branch surfaces have different central distances so that they can only be installed in one position.
The dowel pin (Pos.94.2) has to lock into the drill hole on the branch.
Screw the fastening screws (Pos.91.2) in and tighten them in several steps “crosswise“ with a tightening
torque of 200 Nm.
