Module 2: Analog Communication
Linear Modulation & Demodulation
Carrier signal & Modulating signal, AM with Modulation Index. DSB & SSB modulation
with and without SC, Noise effects, Envelope detection with LPF, PAM.
Angle Modulation & Demodulation
FM modulation and demodulation, PM modulation and demodulation. PWM & PPM.
Homodyne & Heterodyne Receivers.
Module 3: Digital Communication
Digital Representation of Analog Signals
Sampling Theorem, Sample and Hold, Quantization of Signals: Mid-rise/Mid-thread
uniform quantizer. Quantization error. Waveform Coding Techniques: PCM (with Aliasing)
DPCM (block diagram) DM (with Granular Noise and Slope Overload), ADM
Digital Modulation-Demodulation Techniques
Need for digital modulation. ASK modulator and demodulator, ON-OFF keying, FSK
modulator and demodulator, single-carrier FSK and double-carrier FSK. PSK & QPSK:
modulator and demodulator. Bipolar modulating signal.
Module 4: Mobile Communication
Cellular concepts
Cell structure, Frequency re-use, Handoff, Interference
Signal propagation
Fading: Multipath fading and Doppler shift, Amplitude and frequency selective fading,
