C. Motivation

Have a look at this.

____?_____
What do you think should be put on the blank?
“Circle ma’am”
“Very good, it should be a circle. Because it is as
follows: circle, square, circle, square- and a blank, so
the next shape should be circle too! It follows a
pattern.

Let’s take a look at another one.

______ ?__________
Is something changing or unchanging? What are The unchanging number of shape is star ma’am.
these shapes? And the changing number of shapes is the circle
maa’am.
1 1 1 2 1 3

________
1 ?

The question mark is the number of circles we must

put in the blank. What is it?
4circle ma’am

Very good!

This will be as easy as a chicken pie if you will listen

to our discussion for today which is- can anyone guess?

(The teacher will post the title and the objective)

“PATTERNS AND NUMBER SEQUENCE”

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to;

• The learners demonstrate understanding of concepts of

continuous and repeating patterns and number sentences.
• The learner is able to identify the missing element in a
pattern and number sentence.
• Determine the missing term/s in a number sequence

After our discussion, you are expected to be able to do

the listed goal. So make sure to listen carefully, okay
children?”
“Yes, ma’am”
D. Activities
I will group you into 3 groups, but before anything
what do we need to do during group activity?

I will grade you based on the rubric. “Be cooperative and teamwork is present ma’am”

The pupils will be given a bondpaper and an
envelope. The envelope will contain the materials
that the pupils needed for the activity. (markers and a
few shapes)

“Okay children, thank you, lets do a Perfect clap.” (the pupils presented)

______

“Now settle down children. Take a look at this. Do you see a

pattern?”
“Yes Teacher”
“What is it?”
“Triangle, circle, crescent, triangle, circle,
“What do you think is next?” crescent, triangle and blank”

“Why?” “A shaded circle ma’am”

“Verry Correct children! There is a pattern and you saw it. In “Because it follows patterns”
our everyday lives, patterns are everywhere. Can you tell me
the different patterns you see in this clasroom?
(Pupils answers)

“Very good, patterns are very easy to spot”

E. Abstraction

7, 10, ___ 16, 19

“This is the same as the first one except these are numbers
and not shapes. This is called a number sequence . And each
number in the sequence are called a term . Can you guess the
missing term in this number sequence? (Pupils guess)
“If your answer is 13, then you are correct. How did you get
it? “We looked at the number sequence ma’am and it
looked like we needed to find the difference of two
“Excellent! terms to get the pattern.

Number Squence – An ordered set of numbers where the

order is determined by a rule.
Term – Each number in the given sequence is called term.

By determining the rule followed by the numbers in the

sequence and then use this rule we can find or determine the
missing term.

We got 13 from finding the difference of every term in the

number sequence.

7 10 __ 16 19
+3 +3 +3 +3

“Can you see the pattern?

“Yes ma’am”
“Again, how do we complete the number sequence?
“By placing in the missing term ma’am 7, 10, 13,
16, 19.
“Very Good!”

Another example. Who wants to answer number one, two,

three

6 10 ___ 18 ___

15 12 9 ___ 3 14 and 22 ma’am. The pattern is +4, +4, +4, +4

1 3 5 7 9 ___ 13 15 6 ma’am. The pattern is -3, -3, -3, -3, -3, -3

11 ma’am. The pattern is all of the numbers are

“Let’s give ourselves a Three thousand clap” odd numbers

F. Application (pupils do Three thousand claps)

We see patterns everyday in our daily life. The
door, board, windows and even your thumb have a pattern.
Do you see it too?

Alright, I will roam around and pick whomever I “Yes ma’am”

fancy to choose. Inside this box are questions what ever
question you picked you must answer it. Do you understand?
