exp-3-RC Phase Shift Oscillator
exp-3-RC Phase Shift Oscillator
THEORY:
An oscillator is an electronic device used for generating alternating voltage signal. The frequency
of the generated signal is determined by the circuit constants. The oscillator consists of an
amplifier and a feedback network, which is also acting as a frequency determining network. The
basic conditions for oscillations in basic feedback amplifier are,
The resistors R1, R2, RC and RE and the oscillator power supply VCC serve to establish the DC
operating point of the transistor in the active region of its characteristics. CE is the emitter bypass
capacitor. The transistor operates in CE mode and so produces a phase shift of 1800 between its
input and output voltages. An additional 1800 shift of phase is produced by the three sections of
RC network. Therefore, get total 360° phase shift to produce positive feedback. As the VCC is
supplied to the circuit, then noise voltage begins the oscillations within the circuit. At the
transistor, a little 1800 phase shifted base current generates, then again it will be phase-shifted with
1800. For convenience, the three RC sections are made identical. The last section contains a
resistance R = R – hie. Since this resistor is connected with the base of the transistor, the input
resistance hie is added to it to give the total resistance R. The RC phase shift network serve as the
frequency determining network.
