• The Mathura School of art developed during the Kushana period from 1st to 3rd

(1) Since the ancient times, the role of women in history was neglected. Thus, emerged
feminist historiography that emphasised not only on the inclusion of women in history
but also on the rethinking of the male dominated perspective of history. It induced the
historical research to focus on various aspects of women’s life like their role in economy,
society etc. In the historical writings after 1990 women figured as an independent social
class.

(2) Ziauddin Barni expanded the scope of historiography:


• Ziauddin Barniin his book ‘Tarikh-i-Phiruzshahi’ stated that the work of a historian is
not only to write about the bravery of the ruler and his policies of welfare but also
about his failures and incorrect policies.
• Barni also says that a historian should also take into account the teachings of the wise,
the learned and the saints on the cultural lives of the people. He thus, expanded the
scope of historiography.
(3) Major Dhyan Chand was an excellent hockey player under whose captainship India won
several medals in Olympics and various other international competitions. Indian hockey
team won a Gold medal in 1936 at Berlin Olympics under his captaincy. He was also a
part of Indian hockey team in 1928 and 1932 which won God Medals at Olympics. He
was known as the ‘Wizard of hockey’. His birthdate, 29 August is celebrated as the
National Sports Day in India. Because of his contributions in the field of hockey, he was
honoured with ‘Padambhushan’ in 1956.

• Gopal Ramchandra Torane and S.N. Patankar made a movie ‘Pundalik’ after taking
help from the foreign technicians. It was released in 1912.
• Dadasaheb Phalke made ‘Raja Harishchandra’. This was the first to be processed
completely in India. He also made silent movies like ‘Mohini Basmasur, and
‘SavitriSatyavan’.
• Thereafter, several movies began to be made in India. Some of the famous movies in
Hindi were ‘Jugnu’, ‘Sikandar’, ‘Tansen’ etc. Some movies made on Indian struggle for
independence were Andolan and ‘Jhansi ki Rani’.

(3) Sports has been influenced by the process of globalisation in the following ways:
• The international matches of sports like cricket, hockey and football can be watched

Gupta period. Its four features were:
• Earlier the Gupta temples had only sanctum sanctorum (Garbhagriha) and a veranda
with four columns.
• The temple architecture in India reached its peak in 8 CE. Kailasa temple at Verul is
one of the finest examples of temple architecture.
• The Nagara style of North India and the Dravida style of South India are two principal
styles. A blend of these two styles is known as Vesara style.
• In Bhoomija style, series of miniature towers are arranged becoming smaller towards
the top.

(1) The statement is false. Labour movement in India emerged in the background of
industrialisation. It arose to resolve the issue of the exploitation of workers in the hands
of capitalists and industrialists.
(2) True. The Elections Commission lays down the code of conduct during elections to
ensure free and fair elections. It explains the rules that are to be followed by the
Government, political parties and voters before and during elections.
(3) The statement is false. To make democracy successful in India, it is not just sufficient to
make efforts at the level of government, administration and judiciary. Everyone at social
and individual level should make conscious efforts towards it.

(1) Federalism: Federalism is a democratic form of government in which the power to
govern the country is shared or divided between the Central and the State Governments. Both
these levels of government work independently of each other and derive their powers from
the Constitution of the country.
(2) Two party system: It is a political system in which the electorate gives its votes
largely to only two major parties and in which one or the other party wins the majority in
the legislature. The other political parties exist but they do not get a larger share of votes.

(1) The nature of farmers’ movement in India
• During the British period, farmers organised themselves because of high revenues and
anti- agricultural policies of the government.
• Though the movement slowed down after independence, it became intense after the
Green Revolution.
• It was because the Green Revolution only benefitted the rich farmers. The
dissatisfaction of the poor farmers led to the beginning of the farmers’ movements.

(2) Important role played by judiciary in maintaining democracy in India are:


• If the Parliament makes any law which is contrary to the democratic principles laid
down in the constitution, the judiciary can declare such laws as null and void.
• The parliament while passing amendments cannot change the basic structure of the
constitution.
• If the fundamental rights of a citizens are denied by the government, the person can
directly file a case against the government in the Supreme Court.
• The Indian judiciary has given judgments on important and crucial matters like rights
of children, protection of human rights, protection of honour and dignity of women
and tribal empowerment.
