Lesson Plan in Skip Counting
Lesson Plan in Skip Counting
Group 1
Grade Level: 4
Subject: Mathematics
Topic: Multiplication through Skip Counting
Duration: 1 hour
Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
II. Materials
• Number lines (printed or drawn on the board).
• Multiplication charts.
• Flashcards with multiplication problems.
• Counters (buttons, coins, or blocks).
• Worksheet for practice exercises.
1. Concept Development:
• Write 3 x 4 on the board.
• Explain that this means adding 3, four times (3 + 3 + 3 + 3).
• Instead of adding repeatedly, we can skip count by 3s: 3, 6, 9, 12.
• Highlight that the answer is 12.
2. Using a Number Line:
• Draw a number line from 0 to 30.
• Demonstrate 4 x 5 by jumping in intervals of 5 (0 → 5 → 10 → 15 → 20).
• Emphasize that skip counting leads to the same result as multiplication.
• Activity:
• Give students number lines and have them solve problems such as 6 x 3 and 5 x 4 using
skip counting.
• Group Work:
• In pairs, students pick flashcards with problems and solve them by skip counting aloud.
• For Struggling Learners: Provide additional practice with smaller numbers (2s, 3s).
• For Advanced Learners: Challenge them with higher numbers and word problems.
