Concepts of statistical population


In statistics, a statistical population refers to the entire group of individuals, objects, or events
that a researcher is interested in studying and making inferences about. Understanding the
concept of statistical population is essential for sampling, hypothesis testing, and generalizing
research findings to larger populations. Here are the key concepts related to statistical
population:

Target Population:
The target population is the specific group of individuals, objects, or events that the researcher
intends to study and draw conclusions about.It is the population to which the research findings
are intended to be generalized.For example, if a researcher is studying the effectiveness of a new

district.

Accessible Population:
The accessible population is the subset of the target population that is accessible and available

Sample:

Understanding the concepts of statistical population, target population, accessible population,
sample, parameter, and statistic is essential for conducting research, sampling, and making valid

Sampling process in research


The sampling process is one of the most important parts of the research methodology, through
which accuracy and validity of findings from a study are guaranteed . This process starts with the
identification of a target population, which could be a total group of persons or entities relating
to the research question. Defining clearly and properly what constitutes a population is highly
important to make sure that the sample describes the group under study. Population means the
definition that should reflect such an attribute like demographic variables, geographic location,
and every other feature which could be relevant for research.
Having defined the population, the next process is the choice of a suitable sampling method. In
view of research goals and resources and a need for generalization, researchers have to choose

difficult-to-reach subgroups rather than to represent the whole population.
Where the research situation calls for a high degree of accuracy and generalization of results to
the whole population, the preference is for probability sampling. Only in small-scale or
exploratory studies can one resort to non-probability sampling when logistical constraints or
focus groups turn out to be more important than representativeness. Both techniques have a place

3.1. Probability sampling methods
