RECALL: EXPONENTIAL FUNCTION
MOTIVATION: GUESS THE GIBBERISH
ANSWER: PRE-TEST

For you to begin, let us recall some important concepts and

skills from the previous lessons which are needed to
understand the logarithmic function. In the previous module,
you learned that exponential equations are equations
A. Introduction involving exponential expressions like 4𝑥−2=32, 49𝑥=7, and
52𝑥=125. You also learned that exponential inequalities are
inequalities involving exponential expressions like
3𝑥≤27,102𝑥+1=11000, and 32𝑥−1=128. Moreover, you

𝑓(𝑥)=𝑏𝑥 where 𝑏>0 and 𝑏≠1 and it can be used to model

learned that exponential functions are functions of the form

exponential growth and decay, the half-life of a substance,

and the compound interests.
C. Investigate and discover the transformation of
exponential equations to logarithmic equations.

There are exponential equations that are not easy to solve.

For instance, the equation 2𝑥=3
cannot be easily solved, but for sure, it has a solution. Since

1 < x < 2. The solution to 2𝑥=3 can be written as 𝑥=𝑙𝑜𝑔2 3.

21 < 3 < 22, therefore,

This suggests that 2𝑥=3 is equivalent to 𝑥=𝑙𝑜𝑔2 3.

This is read as “x is equal to the logarithm of 3 to the base 2.”

Examples 1. Rewrite the following exponential equations in

logarithmic form whenever possible.
B. Development a. 72=49
b. 27(13)=3

d. 𝑒𝑥=3
c. (𝑚−2)3=𝑥

e. (12)−2=4
f. (√7)2=7
g. (52)−2=425
h. 8112=9
Solutions:
a. 72=49⟹𝑙𝑜𝑔7 49=2

c. (𝑚−2)3=𝑥⟹𝑙𝑜𝑔(𝑚−2) 𝑥 =3
b. 27(13)=3⟹𝑙𝑜𝑔27 3=13
D. Engagement

E. Assimilation
Choose the letter of the best answer. Write the chosen letter
on a separate sheet of paper.

output and can be
represented through a table of values, graph and equation.

b. logarithmic function d. none of these
2. Which of the following is an example of a logarithmic

a. 𝑙𝑜𝑔3 27= 𝑙𝑜𝑔3 𝑥 c. 𝑙𝑜𝑔2 𝑥<10
