Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the Grade 7 Module on Electrical Installation and Maintenance!

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from
Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its Officer-In-Charge Schools Division
Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A. Agustin in partnership with the Local
Government of Pasig through its mayor, Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. Commented [GG2]: Please complete the name of our

Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) while overcoming their personal, social,
and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners
as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:

Welcome to the TVE – Electrical Installation and Maintenance Module on LESSON 2

- Select Electrical Measuring Tools and Instruments

The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is often used to
depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create and
accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a learner
is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies and
skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in your own hands!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning material while being an active learner.

This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

Expectations - These are what you will be able to know after completing the
lessons in the module

Pre-test - This will measure your prior knowledge and the concepts to be
mastered throughout the lesson.

Recap - This section will measure what learnings and skills that you
understand from the previous lesson.

Lesson- This section will discuss the topic for this module.

Activities - This is a set of activities you will perform.

Wrap-Up- This section summarizes the concepts and applications of the

lessons.

Valuing- This part will check the integration of values in the learning
competency.

Post-test - This will measure how much you have learned from the entire
module.
LO2. Cary out measurements and calculation

EXPECTATION

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

✓ Convert one unit of measurement to another.
✓ Value the importance of linear graduation in measurement; and
✓ Measure different object using a measuring tool with linear
graduation accurately.

LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Measuring tools such as ruler, meter stick, and push pull rule has
short and long lines. These lines are not just designs, but are markers use
for reading exact measurements.

LINEAR GRDAUATION

The linear graduation is a series of

straight line markings with equal distance from
one to another found in most of the measuring
tools. These lines will help us to have more
specific and accurate measurement. Usually,
there are two systems of measurement in the measuring tool – English
(usually in inch) and metric (in centimeters).
A. The Centimeter Graduation (Metric System)

Based on the picture above, we use decimal points to read the

linear graduation in centimeters. As you can see, there are 19 lines or
graduation between zero and 10. Every graduation is equivalent to 0.50
millimeter. Therefore, the first graduation is 0.5mm, second graduation is
1 mm, third is 1.50 and so on.

B. The Inch Graduation (English System)

In English system, we use fraction to read each graduation. As

you can see, between 0 and 1 inch, there are 15 graduations. First
graduation is 1/16, the second graduation is 1/8, third is 3/16 and so
on.

C. Converting the unit of measurement from English to metric and

vice versa

Now that we know the proper reading method of the linear

graduation in our measuring tool, it is time for you to learn the conversion
process of one unit to another. We will use the basic mathematical
operations especially division and multiplication.

Here is a sample procedure:

English to Metric (Inch to Centimeter)
You just need to multiply the given inch to its equivalent value in
centimeter, which is 2.54 per inch.
Example:
Given: 17 inches, convert to centimeters.

17 inches We use multiplication to convert inch to centimeter.

X 2.54 cm
68 First, multiply the last digit of multiplicand, which is 7,
85 and multiplier, which is 4. 7 x 4 is 28. Do not end until
34 you multiply all multiplicands. So, the next thing you
43.18 cm need to multiply is 1 to multiplier 4. Which is 4, add the
remainder 2 that is why we have 68. Once you are done
with all the multiplicand, it is the time you will move to
the second last digit of multiplier and start again with the
last digit of multiplicand. 5 x 7 = 35 and 5 x 1 = 5 plus 3
that we carry, so we got 85. Next is 2 x 7 = 14 and 2 x 1 =
2 plus 1, we got 34. Please be mindful of the positioning
of numbers, then add. Last step is the decimal point.
Since there are only two numbers inside the decimal
point, 5 and 4, the final answer should also have 2
numbers after decimal points.

ACTIVITIES

Directions: Get a measuring tool and measure the following objects in

inches. Write your answer on the space provied.

1. Length of a tri-cut shampoo sachet in inches.___________

2. Length of your school identification card.__________

3. Length of twenty-peso bill.__________

4. Length of a standard composition notebook.__________
