Touch Screens and Touch-Sensitive
Pads
• A touch screen is a touch-sensitive display
device.

10
Pen Input
• With pen input, you touch a stylus or digital pen on a
flat surface to write, draw, or make selections.

Other Types of
Input
• Voice inputis the process of entering input by
speaking into a microphone.
• Voice recognition is the computer’s
capability of distinguishing spoken words.
• Audio input is the process of entering any sound
into the computer.

17
18
Other Types of
Input
• Music production software allows usersto
record, compose, mix, and edit music and sounds.

19
Other Types of
Input
• Video input is the process of capturing full-motion
images and storing them on a computer’s storage medium.

Record video on a digital video (DV) camera or use a

video capture card to convert analog signals to
digital.

Connect the camera to a port on the system

unit.

Transfer video and

images.

Other Types of
Input
• A Web cam is a video camera that feeds its
images in real time to a computer. It enables a
user to:

Capture video and still images Send e-mail messages with video
attachments

Add live images to instant Broadcast live images over the

messages Internet

Make video telephone calls

21
Scanning Input

• A scanner creates a file of the document

in memory.
– Works in a manner similar to a copy machine.

22
Other Types of
Input
• Optical character recognition (OCR) involves
reading characters from ordinary documents.
• A turnaround document is a document you return to the
company that creates and sends it. (e.g form)

23
Other Types of
Input
• Optical mark recognition (OMR) reads
hand-drawn marks such as small circles or
rectangles.

24
Scanning Input

• A bar code reader, also

called a bar code
scanner uses laser
beams to read bar
codes.

Types of Sensor
The list below shows a few of the sensors
available
▪ Temperature
▪ Light
▪ Pressure
▪ Ultrasonic
▪ Colour
▪ Touch
▪ Flow and level
▪ Smoke
▪ Infrared
▪ MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
What is a
Sensor?
▪ A sensor is a device that detects the
changes in electrical or physical or other
quantities and thereby produces an
output based on the pre-set values
entered or the current conditions.
Temperature sensor

A temperature sensor is an electronic

device that measures the temperature of
its environment and converts the input
data into electronic data to record,
monitor, or signal temperature changes.
Radar gun-Speed
Sensor
▪ A radar speed gun is a device used
to measure the speed of moving
objects. It is used in
law-enforcement to measure the
speed of moving vehicles and is
often used in professional
spectator sport, for things such as
the measurement of bowling
speeds in cricket, speed of
pitched baseballs, athletes and
tennis serves.
Blind spot
monitor

▪ A blind spot monitor is a vehicle-

based senso device that detects other
vehicles located to the driver’s side and
rear. Warnings can bevisual, audible,
vibrating.
▪ It can also include “cross trafic alerts”.
Water
sensor

▪ The Water in Fuel Sensor or WiF sensor indicates

the presence of water in the fuel. It is installed in
the fuel filter and when the water level in the
water separator reaches the warning level, the
Wif sends an electrical signal to the ECU or to
dashboard (lamp). The WiF is used especially in
the Common Rail engines to avoid
the Fuelinjector damage.
Oxygen
sensor

▪ An oxygen sensor (or lambda sensor) is an

electronic device that measures the
proportion of oxygen (O2) in the gas or liquid
being analysed.
