Lesson Plan: Data Collection Methods

I. Learning Objectives
• Identify different data collection methods (Actual Measurement, Interview, and
Survey/Questionnaire).
• Appreciate the concept of data collection method in real-life situation
• Apply appropriate data collection methods in real-life situations.

II. Materials
• Printed copies of the table of data collection methods.
• Meter stick for actual measurement activity.
• Prepared interview questions.
• Sample survey forms.
• Chart paper and markers.

III. Lesson Proper (4 A's Approach)

A. Activity (Engagement & Exploration)

1. **Grouping Activity:** Divide the class into three groups, each assigned one data
collection method.

2. **Hands-on Activity:**

- **Group 1 (Actual Measurement):** Measure the height of 5 classmates using meter stick
and record data.

- **Group 2 (Interview):** Conduct a short interview on a classmate's favorite subject.

- **Group 3 (Survey/Questionnaire):** Distribute a survey on students' favorite social

media apps.

3. **Presentation:** Each group presents their findings to the class.

B. Analysis (Discussion & Processing)

• Guide questions for discussion:

- What challenges did you encounter in collecting data?

- Which method was the easiest or most convenient? Why?

- When would each method be most useful?

- How do direct and indirect methods differ?

C. Abstraction (Generalization)
• Summary Discussion: Defining and differentiating the three data collection methods.

• Concept Mapping: Students create a visual representation of data collection methods.

D. Application (Real-World Connection & Performance Task)

1. **Real-Life Scenario Task:** Plan a data collection method for determining how many
students bring reusable water bottles.

2. **Reflection Question:** How can data collection help in daily decision-making? (Students
write a short paragraph).

IV. Assessment (Rubrics-Based Evaluation)

Criteria 5 (Excellent) 4 (Good) 3 (Fair) 2 (Needs
Improvement)

Participation Actively Minimal Needed Did not

engaged contribution reminders participate
Presentation of Clear, well- Minor errors Confusing Disorganized
Data organized
Application Detailed Good but Basic plan Poorly written
Task explanation missing details

V. Assignment (Optional Extension Task)

• Conduct a mini-research at home using one data collection method and present findings in
a table or chart.
