I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of: how Anglo-American literature and other text types serve
as means of valuing other people; also how to use processing information strategies, different forms of adverbs
and conditionals.
B. Performance Standards:
The learners shall be able to proficiently plays an active part in a Chamber Theatre presentation through
employing effective verbal and non- verbal strategies based on the following criteria: Focus, Voice, Delivery, Facial
Expressions, Style and Body Movements or gestures.
C. Learning Competencies:
The learners shall be able to judge the relevance and worth of ideas presented in the material viewed.
D. Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the discussion, the Grade 9 learners will be able to:
a) Identify and describe actively the structural rules of English conditionals;
b) Compare and contrast operationally the four types of conditional through constructing a Venn
diagram; and
c) Relate the importance of the structural rules of conditionals through analyzing the examples that
can be found in the story of “Juan Tamad”

 Picture Analysis -The teacher will show pictures about different situations.

 1st Picture- If I were rich, I would travel around the


world.

 2nd Picture- If I attend the party, my wife will get

 3rd Picture- If you don’t do your job well, you get

4. Abstraction Conditionals- are tenses used to speculate about what could
happen, what might have happened, and what we wish would
happen.

Types of Conditionals

Zero Conditional- it is used to talk about things which are


always true — such as scientific facts and general truths.
 Examples:
1. If I drink too much coffee, I can't sleep at night.
2. Ice melts if you heat it.
First Conditional- it is used to talk about things which are
possible in the present or the future — things which may
happen.
 Examples:
1. If it's sunny, we'll go to the park.
2. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, we'll go to the beach.
Second Conditional- it is used to imagine present or future
situations that are impossible or unlikely in reality.
 Examples:
1. If we had a garden, we could have a cat.
2. If I won a lot of money, I'd buy a big house in the
country.
Third Conditional- The third conditional is used to express
the past consequence of an unrealistic action or situation in
the past.
 Examples:
1. If he had studied harder, he would have passed
the exam.
2. If he called you, you could go.

5. Application
Activity: Venn Diagram Compare and contrast the four types of conditionals through
Venn diagram.
- The students will be divided into 4 groups.
- Group 1 & 2: zero and first conditionals
- Group 3 & 4: second and third conditionals
- Each group will be given 5 minutes to do the activity.
- There should be one representative to discuss
the output.

V. EVALUATION
Activity: Board Work
- The students will be divided into 4 groups and identify the players.
- Each group will be given a chalk to write the answer on the board.
- The first group who writes the answer on the board correctly will get the point.
- Every correct answer is equivalent to 1 point.
- The highest group will win the game.
