EXPERIMENT OBJECTIVE
To generate a map layout with patterns and legends in ArcGIS using given data
SOFTWARE REQUIRED
ArcGIS 10.8.2
DATA REQUIRED
Geodatabase file / SOI Toposheet
PROCEDURE
1). Open ArcMap, click Add Data, select the data and click Add to import to ArcMap. Make sure to
add all necessary layers such as base maps, thematic layers, or any additional data you want to
include.
2). Once your data is added, symbolize each layer according to the desired attribute. This involves

selecting appropriate symbols, colors, and sizes to represent different features on the map. For
example, you might use different colors or patterns to represent different categories or values within
your data.
3). Fine-tune the symbology settings to ensure that the map effectively communicates the information
you want to convey. This may involve adjusting transparency, outline thickness, or other visual
properties to enhance clarity and readability.
4). To create map, choose the layout view at the bottom of the window as indicated in the above
figure.

5. Once changed to layout view at top corner choose the tool “Change layout”. In that choose ISO A4
landscape > Finish.

6. Go Insert > Title > “Give a Title for the map”
7. Go to Insert > Legend > Choose the layer which should be produced in Legends > Next > Finish.
The legend should be at the bottom right corner or bottom left corner.

8). Again go to Insert > North Arrow > Choose any style > Ok. The North arrow should be at the Top
right corner of the map

7. Again go to Insert > Scale Bar > Choose any style > Ok. The Scale Bar should be at the bottom
right corner or Bottom left corner of the map.
8. To insert coordinates Right click on the map > Go to properties > Grid > New Grid > Next >
Choose lables only option > Next > Finish > Ok.

9. Once the coordinates are placed, again go to properites > In Label filed > Tick “Left” & “Right”
under “Lable orentation”. Then click Ok.

10. Once done loading evey patterns the map can be exported to reqired file format. Go to file >
Export map > Choose the File Format (for example: JPEG) > Go the output location path > Save.

11. The final map layout will be generated as an JEPG image.
RESULTS
The generation of map layout with patterns and legends was successfully completed.
