Narrator: Far away on an island in the Province of Romblon, there is a story that is
amazing and filled with mystery. This story is well known to the people who live
near the beautiful river of Cantingas. The water in that river is very clear and clean.
It is said by the elders and ancestors of the people that live there, that the reason
for the river's ethereal beauty is because that river is a favorite place of engkantos.
But there is one more otherworldly thing that occurs in that place, and though it
may be hard to believe, it is said that a Golden Ship filled with engkantos passes
through that river when the clock strikes at 3:00 in the morning. And, whoever sees
that ship will encounter misfortune.

Narrator: This story is about a curious and naughty child named Juan. Juan lives
near the river of Cantingas with his mother Carmelita, and his father Junito. They
live a peaceful and humble life in the province together. His father’s job is collecting
coal while his mother works as a helper.

(Scene one: Home)

Mirasol: And then the golden ship glided across the river, its glow brighter than the
stars! They say it only reveals itself to those sailing the waters at the enchanted hour
of 3:00 in the morning.

Juan: Woah… happened next? Did they find the treasure?

Mirasol: Well… that’s when—

(Tita, Janine interrupts.)

Aunty Janine: Mirasol, help me here for a second. I need you to hold this.

Mirasol: One second, Juan. My Mom is calling me.

Juan: But I want to know what happened!

Mom Carmelita: Juan! Juan! Where are you, naughty child?!

Mirasol: Looks like Tita Carmilita is looking for you Juan

Juan: I’ll be back, promise! So, you better tell me the whole story later ate Mira.

Juan: I’m here! I’m just preparing my bag for school! Please wait for me!

Narrator: Juan immediately rushed out of the house the moment he heard his mom
calling

Mom Carmelita: There you are! What are you doing at your Tita Janine’s house? You
need to prepare for school! You’re going to be late!

Juan: But, Nanay, we were in the middle of a story!

Mom Carmelita: You can listen to stories later. Right now, you have to get ready for
school
Junito: Alright, I’m off to work. You, Juan, behave yourself, ok?

Juan: Take care, Tatay!

Mom Carmelita: Take care.

Junito: Yes, you too take care of yourselves as well

Narrator: While Juan and his mother are on their way to school, Juan’s curious mind
can’t help but question his mother about the story he heard from Mirasol.

(Scene two)

Juan: Nay, I heard a story about the river near our house.
Narrator: Carmelita suddenly felt a little nervous but she still asked her son.

Carmelita: What is it, son?

Juan: They said that a Golden Ship passes through that river, and that whoever sees
it...

Carmelita: (Confused)Whoever sees it?

Juan: Will get lots of gold!!!

Carmelita: Naughty little child, that’s not how the story goes.

Juan: So, you know it, Nay?

Carmelita: No, Let’s not talk about it ok?

Juan: Okay

Mom Carmelita: Son, we’ll be staying at your grandmother’s house tonight, okay?
Together with your Tita and ate Mira but I won’t be able to keep an eye on you much
because I have a lot of work to do there.

Juan: Okay Nay!

Carmelita: Don’t be naughty and listen to your grandmother, okay? And don’t ask
anything about that ship.

Juan: Okay! Okay! I got it Nay. I’ll go to school now, bye!

Narrator: After Juan’s dismissal in school, they went to his grandmother’s home.

(Scene Three)
Juan: (Rushes towards his grandmother) Lola! Lola!

Teresita: Oh grandson, you’re here! How are you?

Juan: I am fine Lola; I have something to ask.

Teresita: Confused What is it?

Juan: Do you know about the Golden Ship that passes through our river?

Teresita: (Nervous)Where did you hear that?

Juan: Oh, I just heard it from ate Mira! she said that if you see it, you will get
looooots of gold!

Teresita: Oh, my grandson, that’s not how the story goes.

Juan: That’s what Mom said, can you please tell me about it then?

(MUSIC IN)

Narrator: As the house fell silent, Juan pretended to sleep, his mind racing with
thoughts of the ship. He waited for everyone to fall asleep before he quietly tiptoed
out of bed, carefully avoiding the creaky floorboards.

Juan: (whispering to himself) I have to see it. I have to see if it’s real…

Narrator: He reached the river, the water stretching far beyond, the dark water
glimmering in the moonlight. And then… he saw it. The Golden Ship, glowing and
sailing across the horizon, brighter than anything Juan had ever seen.

Juan: (whispering in awe) It’s real… It’s real!

Encanto: You should not have come here, child! This ship is not for you to see!

Juan: W-who are you?

Encanto: I am the guardian of the Golden Ship, and you have defied the warning!
Because of your foolishness, I will punish the one who raised you!

Juan: What do you mean? I didn’t do anything wrong!

Encanto: You’ve seen the ship, and now the curse is upon you.
Juan: No, please! I didn’t mean to…
Encanto: It is too late. Your curiosity has sealed Its fate.

Narrator: The Encanto mutters a curse, and a dark mist surrounds the river. Juan
looks terrified as he watches the Encanto vanish into the shadows, leaving him
alone by the water. Juan, filled with regret and fear, ran back to his grandmother’s
house, his heart heavy with the knowledge that his actions had put her Lola in
danger.

Juan: (shouting) Lola! Lola, we have to leave! Something bad is coming!

Teresita: What are you talking about, Juan? You’re out of breath. Tell me what
happened.

Juan: Lola, listen to me! I saw the ship… and the Encanto… it’s all real! We have to
leave, something’s wrong!

Teresita: Juan… you shouldn’t have done that. The ship brings only misfortune… I
tried… to protect you… but… it’s too late now…

Juan: Lola, please! I’m so sorry! What can I do? Please, don’t leave me like this!

Narrator: Teresita weakens, her body trembling, and collapses. Juan, crying, holds
her as the curse takes its toll. The Encanto’s curse had claimed his grandmother,
leaving Juan to face the consequences of his disobedience. The once peaceful home
now felt heavy with sorrow, as Juan realized too late the price of his curiosity.

End.
