1. Getting started
This manual describes how to use the DMS Configurator tool to configure system type, energy & demand, and
communication settings of the digital meters from a computer. The settings can be saved and imported easily when
configuring multiple meters. The DMS Configurator also features a data logger and data trends allow users to
monitor, record, and compare various parameters of meters over the specified time period.
1.1 Before you begin
Before using the DMS Configurator, make sure that the digital meter is wired correctly, and powered ON.
Make sure that you have the latest version of DMS Configurator software installed on your computer. You can
download the latest version at https://www.te.com/usa-en/private/energy/crompton-software-downloads.html .
1.2 Identify the meter model
To view the meter identification information, use the label on back of the meter. For more information, see the Setup
and Operation Guide supplied with the product.

2. DMS Configurator Overview


The DMS Configurator has various menu options to setup the meter, import/export configuration, view live
measurements, log and explore various parameters of the meter. The following sections in this manual describe each
menu options and how to setup them onto the meter using the configurator.

3. Customizing the meter
The customize meter menu lets the user to add a new meter, view/edit the meter information and change the
password of the meter.
3.1 Adding a new meter
To add a new meter, proceed as follows:

NOTE
Before you proceed, make sure that the necessary wiring is done to the meter and it is connected
to power source.
Make sure that the meter is connected to the computer using the modbus communication cable.
1. Click on the Customize meter menu.
2. Select the Add tab.
3. On the Add Meter page, enter the desired name for the meter.
4. Select the Meter Model to be configured from the drop-down list.
5. Select the PC communication Port to interface with the meter from the drop-down list.
To identify the PC communication port, open the Device Manager and then click on the Ports to find the
Modbus COM Port.
6. Enter the Node address through which the connected meter responds.
By default the node address is set to 1 at factory. If the connected meter has been previously configured
with a different node address, then enter the known node address 1-247.
7. Click the Save button to save the meter information.
8. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter is added. Click OK.

3.2 View / Edit custom meter details
The view/edit menu lets the user to view, modify, or delete the communication settings configured to the meter.

To view/edit meter details, proceed as follows:


1. Click on the Customize meter menu.
2. Select the View/Edit tab.
3. On the View / Edit custom meter details page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
The page will show the present meter and modbus communication settings with respective values.
4. If required, modify the meter and communication settings to your preferences.
5. Select the Port from the drop-down list.
6. Enter the modbus Node address.
By default the node address is set to 1 at factory. If the connected meter has been previously configured
with a different node address, then enter the known node address 1-247.
7. Select the Baudrate (speed of data communication) from the drop-down list.
8. Select the type of Parity encoding to be used from the drop-down list.
9. Select the Stopbits from the drop-down list.
10. When you have entered all the meter parameters, click Update meter.
11. When prompted, enter the password and click OK.


12. A confirmation message is shown after the communication settings are updated for the meter. Click OK.

NOTE
Make sure to restart the meter to allow the updated communication settings to take effect.

3.2.1 Updating the communication settings
If you need to update the communication settings of the software to communicate with a previously configured meter,
proceed as follows:

1. Click on the Customize meter menu.


2. Select the View/Edit tab.
3. On the View / Edit custom meter details page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
The meter’s default/previously configured values will be shown automatically.
4. Click Update comm settings button.
5. A Success confirmation message is shown after the communication settings are updated for the meter.


3.2.2 Deleting the meter
To delete the complete information of the meter from the configurator application, proceed as follows:

1. Click on the Customize meter menu.


2. Select the View/Edit tab.
3. On the View / Edit custom meter details page, select the Meter you wish to delete from drop-down list.
4. Click Delete.
5. You will receive a confirmation message “Are you sure you want to delete this meter!”. Click Yes.
The meter information and all the captured logs will be cleared from the configurator application.


6. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter is deleted. Click OK.

3.3 Changing the meter password
To change password of the meter, proceed as follows:

1. Select the Change password tab.


2. On the Change password form page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Enter Old password. Click the check box to see the password characters.
4. Enter New password.

NOTE
The password field must contain only four numeric characters (0-9).
5. Re-enter the new password in the Confirm password field.
6. Click Update.
7. A Success confirmation message is shown after the password is changed. Click OK.


NOTE
The password change will only be applied for the connected meter.
Password change is not available for DRS meters range.
3.4 Registering the communications settings order
To register the order of the communication settings to be displayed in the meter, proceed as follows:

1. Select the Register Order tab.


2. On the Register Order page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Select the Register Order from the drop-down list.
4. Click on Change Register order.
5. A Success confirmation message is shown after the communication settings order is changed. Click OK.


NOTE
The register order is not available for DRS meters range.

4. System Information
The system menu enables the users to view and update various parameters of the selected meter.

NOTE
Depending on the meter type, the configurator will show additional parameters that are applicable
to the selected meter. Expand the menu to see the parameters and enter the values.
To view the system parameters, proceed as follows:
1. Click on the System menu.
2. On the System Information page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
The configurator application will read the present/last configured settings of the meter and displays the
values of the respective parameters.
4.1 INT-12XX Products
To update the system parameters, proceed as follows:
1. Click on the System menu.
2. On the System Information page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Select the System type from the drop-down list.
4. Enter the System voltage(V).
Set the primary voltage of the voltage transformer (PT) that may be connected to the meter
(10V – 999 kV). If no voltage transformer is connected then set the system voltage to 277V.
5. Enter the maximum System current(A) that can be monitored according to the CT in use (1A to 9999A).
6. Select the System frequency(Hz) from the drop-down list.
7. If necessary, select the Current polarity correction from the drop-down list.
By default the current direction is set to forward on all the phases. If necessary, reverse the current
direction to correct any wiring errors (Integra 1222 models only).
8. The System power(kW) is displayed based on the system type, system voltage, and system current
selected. This parameter is shown only after you click the Update button.
9. Enter the Secondary voltage(V).
Set the secondary voltage between 100-277V AC. If no voltage transformer is connected then set the
secondary voltage to 277V.
10. Select the maximum Secondary current(A) that can be monitored according to the CT in use.
11. Based on the incoming cable entry, select the CT incomer entry from the drop-down list (Integra 1221
models only).
12. Click the Update button.
13. When prompted, enter the password and click OK.

14. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter system configuration is updated. Click OK.

4.2 TL1, DL1, SL1 Products
To update the system parameters, proceed as follows:
1. Click on the System menu.
2. On the System Information page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Based on the incoming cable entry, select the CT incomer entry from the drop-down list.
4. Enter the CT(s) Primary current in Amps. E.g. CT1 = 200 for a 200A CT. For Dual and Tri Load products
enter the primary current of each CT connected (CT1, CT2 and CT3 as applicable)
5. Select the preferred Display Load. Meter can display loads as Load 1, 2 & 3, or as Power, Lighting &
Services.
6. Select the System Mode.
7. Click the Update button.
8. When prompted, enter the password and click OK.
9. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter system configuration is updated. Click OK.

4.3 DRS-100 & DRS-45 Products


For DRS-100-3P the system type can be selected. For single phase products system type is not applicable.
Move on to next section Energy & Demands.
To update the system parameters, proceed as follows:
1. Click on the System menu.
2. On the System Information page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Select the System type from the drop-down list.
4. Click the Update button.
5. When prompted, enter the password and click OK.
6. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter system configuration is updated. Click OK.

4.4 DRS-CT-3P-MOD-2T
To update the system parameters, proceed as follows:
1. Click on the System menu.
2. On the System Information page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Select the System type from the drop-down list.
4. PT rate. This is the ratio of the Potential Transformer. Set this parameter if using a Potential Transformer
with the instrument. The range is 0001 to 9999. The value is entered as a RATIO of the primary and
secondary voltage. For example, if using a 8,000/400V voltage transformer you would enter 0020 on this
screen. (If not using a PT please leave as default value of 0001)
5. PT2. This option sets the secondary voltage of the voltage transformer (PT) that wires to the meter. Can be
set between 100 to 500V. (If not using a PT please leave as default value of 400)
6. CT rate. This is the ratio of the Current Transformer. The range is 0001 to 9999. The value is entered as a
RATIO of the primary and secondary current. For example, if using a 100/5A current transformer you would
enter 0020 on this screen.
7. CT2. This option sets the secondary current (1A or 5A) of the current transformer (CT) that wires to the
meter. Select 1A or 5A from the drop down menu.
8. Click the Update button.
9. When prompted, enter the password and click OK.
10. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter system configuration is updated. Click OK.

4.5 INT-1422 Products
To update the system parameters, proceed as follows:
1. Click on the System menu.
2. On the System Information page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Select the System type from the drop-down list.
4. Enter the System voltage (V).
Set the primary voltage of the voltage transformer (PT) that may be connected to the meter (100V – 1,200
kV). If no voltage transformer is connected then set the system voltage to 277V.
5. Enter the maximum System current (A) that can be monitored according to the CT in use (1A to 9999A).
6. Select the System frequency (Hz) from the drop-down list.
7. Enter the Secondary voltage (V).
Set the secondary voltage between 100-600V AC. If no voltage transformer is connected then set the
secondary voltage to 277V.
8. Select the maximum Secondary current (A) that can be monitored according to the CT in use.
9. Click the Update button.
10. When prompted, enter the password and click OK.
11. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter system configuration is updated. Click OK.

5. Energy and demands
The Energy and demands menu enables the users to view and update various parameters of the selected meter.

To view the Energy and demands, proceed as follows:


1. Click on the Energy and demands menu.
2. On the Energy and Demands page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
The configurator application will read the present/last configured settings of the meter and displays the
values of the respective parameters.
To update the Energy and Demands, proceed as follows:
1. Click on the Energy and Demands menu.
2. On the Energy and Demands page, select the Meter from the drop-down list to be viewed / edited.
3. Enter the Demand period.
Set the period (in minutes) in which the current and power readings are integrated for maximum demand
measurement. Available options in the drop-down list : 0,5,8,10,15,20,30,60. For Integra 1422: 5-60.
4. Enter the Low power unit (For Integra 12XX only).
Enables the user to prevent creep caused by electrical noise being accumulated as energy. When set to
‘0.5% limit’ the product will employ a low power limit below which energy will not be accumulated.
5. Select Pulse rate from the default drop-down list.
The Pulse rate is number of pulses related to a defined amount of energy
6. The Pulse output is the output of the Pulse will be displayed.
7. Set the Energy parameter to which the configurable Pulsed Output relates. Options are active energy
(Wh) or reactive (VArh) energy.
8. Select the Pulse width from the drop-down list.
Pulse width is the duration of pulse in ms. Available options: 200, 100 or 60ms.
9. Click the Update button.
10. When prompted, enter the password and click OK.

11. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter system configuration is updated. Click OK.

To reset the energy and demands parameters:


12. Select the parameter to reset and click on Reset.
This will reset the selected parameter(s) measurement(s) to zero.

6. Exporting / Importing configuration parameters
The DMS configurator application lets the user to save the configuration settings of system, energy and demands,
and communication settings of the digital meter to a PC. These settings can then be imported easily when configuring
multiple products.
6.1 Exporting configuration

To export the configuration settings of the meter:


1. Click on the Import/Export configuration menu.
2. Click on the Export tab.
3. On the Export configuration page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
4. Click Export.
5. In the Save As dialogue box, enter the file name and select the folder in which the file should be saved.
6. Click Save.

7. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter configuration is exported. Click OK.

6.2 Importing configuration

NOTE
Before importing the configuration, make sure you have selected the same product family range. If a wrong
product is selected then a error message will appear.

To import the configuration settings to the new meter:


1. Add the new meter. See the Customize meter for more information.
2. Click on the Import/Export configuration menu.
3. Click on the Import tab.
4. On the Import configuration page, select the Meter to be configured from the drop-down list.
5. Click on Select file button.
6. In the Open dialogue box, select the configuration file and click Open.

7. Click on the Preview button to view the communication, system, energy and demands settings that will be
imported to the new meter.

8. Click Apply.
9. When prompted, enter the password and then click OK.

10. A confirmation message is shown after the meter system configuration is imported successfully. Click OK.
Restart the device to apply the configured settings.

NOTE
The imported settings will only be applied after the meter is restarted.

NOTE
The import configuration will only apply applicable parameters, if there are any parameters whose
import value are not applicable to the meter then an error message will appear.

7. Live measurements
The live measurements menu lets the users to view various parameters of the selected meter.
To view the live measurements, proceed as follows:

1. Click on the Live measurements menu.


2. On the Live measurements page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. The application shows the live readings of different parameters of the selected meter.
4. Click on the Start Auto refresh button, the parameters reading will refresh as per preset interval.
While the auto refresh is turned ON, the other menu options of the software are disabled.
5. Click on the Stop Auto refresh button to stop the auto refresh.

7.1 Live measurements for multiload
In case of multiload, select the desired option from the drop-down list to view the measurements on a particular load
or system. By default, system is shown.
To view the live measurements, proceed as follows:
1. Click on the Live measurements menu.
2. On the Live measurements page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Select the desired option from the drop-down list to view the measurements of system or load.


4. The application shows the live readings of different parameters of the selected meter.
5. Click on the Start Auto refresh button, the parameters reading will refresh as per preset interval.
While the auto refresh is turned ON, the other menu options of the software are disabled.
6. Click on the Stop Auto refresh button to stop the auto refresh.

8. Reading other paramerters
Other Parameters enables the users to view the various parameters of the selected meter.

To view the other parameters, proceed as follows:


1. Click on the Other parameters menu.
2. On the Read parameter page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Select meter Register type i.e Input Register / Holding Register.
4. Select the electrical parameter to view the live reading.
5. Click on the Read button.
The live value measured for the selected electrical parameter is shown.

9. Data logging
The DMS Configurator is loaded with data logger feature which will enable the user to automatically log data of the
preferred electrical parameters. These logs can then be exported into .csv file format for exploring the data points.
9.1 Starting and stopping the data logger
To start or stop the data logger, proceed with the following steps:

1. Click on the Data logger menu.


2. On the Logger page, select the Meter from the drop-down list.
3. Select the Parameters to be logged and click >> to confirm the parameters and add to Selected
Parameters for logging list.
4. To log parameters for another meter, repeat the steps 2 - 3.
5. After selecting the required parameters for logging, select the Interval at which the data should be logged.
6. Click Start logging to start logging the data of selected parameters.
While logging is turned ON, the other menu options of the software are disabled.
7. To stop the data logging, click Stop logging.
8. To export the logged data into .csv file format, click Export Logs.
9. In the Save As dialogue box, enter the file name and select the folder in which the file should be saved.
10. Click Save.

11. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter logs are exported. Click OK.

To delete the data logs for the selected meter, click on Clear Logs.
This will delete all the saved data logs for all the meters.

10. Data trends
The data trends feature allows to user to select the various logged parameters of respective meters and shows the
graphical representation of the data points using predefined chart styles.
10.1 Viewing the trend graphs
To view the trend plot, proceed as follows:

1. Click on the Data trends menu.


2. On the Trends page, select the Parameter(s) to plot the data.
3. Select the start date and time to plot the data.
4. Select the end date and time.
5. Select the Unit prefix from the drop-down list.

NOTE
The meters may have different units (kWh, GWh, etc) during logging. Before plotting/exporting the
trends, you should select the unit prefix to see the consistent unit in the graphs.
6. Select the meter(s) and choose the color for meter to plot the graph.

NOTE
The color for the meter can be chosen when only more than one meter is selected to plot the graph.
7. Click Plot.
The configurator will now shows the data log in the graphical representation (trend lines or histograms) as
predefined in the software.


8. Click Print to print the plot.
9. Click Fit to minimize and fit the plot into the Trends page.

10.2 Exporting the logs
To export the data trends log, proceed as follows:

1. Click on the Data trends menu.


2. On the Trends page, select the Parameter(s) to plot the data.
3. Select the start date and time to plot the data.
4. Select the end date and time.
5. Select the Unit prefix from the drop-down list.
6. Select the meter(s) and choose the color for meter to plot the graph.
7. Click Export to export the logged data into .csv file format.
8. In the Save As dialogue box, enter the file name and select the folder in which the file should be saved.
9. Click Save.

10. A Success confirmation message is shown after the meter logs are exported. Click OK.
