OBJECTIVE AND LEARNING OUTCOMES


Educational To expose students to the various functional areas of business while
objective guiding them to use Microsoft Excel to analyze and solve related
business problems.
Course Description In this course, students are introduced to basic management practices,
terminology, and methodologies. Cases are utilized from the major
business functional areas such as accounting, marketing, finance, and
operations. Lab sessions are used extensively to familiarize students
with advanced spreadsheet techniques and functionality. Topics
covered include financial statements, breakeven analysis, sales
forecasting, statistical analysis, pricing and elasticity, present value
analysis, optimization. The course is designed as an introductory
course for students from all academic backgrounds.

DETERMINING LETTER GRADE


Letter grades are assigned based on a bell curve with students needing to be approximately
above (average -1 standard deviation) to pass the course.

Students must attend 70% of the classes (lectures & labs combined) in order to qualify to pass
the course. Attendance below 70% will result in an automatic F. Attendance will be counted
after the completion of the Add/Drop period, i.e. February 11th 4 pm.) There are a total of 25
sessions (lectures & labs), meaning you must attend a minimum of 17 sessions including the
lecture on February 11.
