PROCEDURE
INTRODUCTION Begin by showing images or videos of different types of disasters such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and wildfires. Ask students to
observe and discuss what they see, focusing on common characteristics or patterns. Guide the discussion towards understanding the
concept of disasters and what factors contribute to their occurrence.
MOTIVATION Share real-life examples or news articles about recent disasters and their impact on communities. Discuss how understanding disasters can
help individuals and communities prepare and respond effectively. Encourage students to think about their own experiences or observations
related to disasters.
INSTRUCTION DELIVERY  Define the concept of disaster and discuss different types (natural, man-made, technological).
 Explain the factors contributing to disasters, including environmental, social, and economic factors.
 Provide examples and case studies to illustrate the nature of disasters and their effects on individuals and communities.
 Demonstrate techniques for assessing risk factors and identifying vulnerable areas prone to disasters.
 Discuss the stages of disaster management (mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery) and the role of various stakeholders.
PRACTICE Divide students into small groups and assign each group a specific type of disaster (e.g., earthquake, flood, wildfire). Ask them to research
and create a presentation outlining:
 Characteristics of the assigned disaster
 Risk factors contributing to its occurrence
 Effects on the environment, infrastructure, and communities
 Strategies for mitigation and preparedness
 Case studies or examples of past incidents
Encourage groups to use a variety of sources including textbooks, articles, and online resources. Allow time for group presentations and
peer feedback.
