Topic 3: Yogas- Part-2

2. Combinations for Wealth

(i) Dhana Yogas: These are the combinations for acquiring wealth. These yogas are
formed containing the combinations of lords of different category of houses –
Kendras, Trikonas, upachayas, etc within themselves. (02nd, 11th, 05th, 09th, 06th
or 10th). This yoga will bear fruit only if they are formed in Auspicious houses –
Kendra/Trikona/ 02nd or 11th. They will be of little value if they are formed in
house 3, 6, 8 and 12.
- All types of Rajayogas also give dhana
(ii) Lakshmi yoga:
If Venus and 9th Lord occupy own or Exaltation sign identical with Kendra/Trine.
Result:The native with Lakshmi Yoga will be constantly engaged in enjoyment
with a woman of noble temperament. He will be brilliant. He will be capable of
providing protection to his men and will be a favourite of Goddess Lakshmi (very
wealthy). He will be free from diseases. He will enjoy rides in beautiful
palanquines, horses or elephants (He will have the privilege of travelling in
luxurious conveyances). He will be generous in gifts and will be a capable ruler
favourite of his subjects.

(iii) Indu Lagna is an independent and complete method devised by our ancient Rishis
for finding out the wealth and prosperity of an individual irrespective of other
Dhana yogas present in the horoscope. The increase in wealth will be corresponding
to Desha-Kala-Patra, that is, according to status and circumstances of the
individual. The Moon in Sanskrit is called 'Indu', Hence, Indu Lagna should not be
confused with Chandra Lagna (Rashi). Indu Lagna is calculated with the help of 9th
house lords from Chandra Lagna and Janma Lagna in the horoscope. Our Rishis
have allotted specific kalas (root numbers) to the seven planets (except Rahu and
Ketu) for calculating Indu Lagna. Among others, Acharya Kalidasa in Uttara
Kalamrita (Ch. IV. 27) has briefly described the method of calculation of Indu
Lagna and its result as follows:
अर्कान्नकगचटस्तनुर्ाननटः खेटकयनं स्युस्तनो-
श्चन्रकद्भकग्यपयोः क्लैक्यमिनहृमछिष्टं मिद्योयाद्गृहि।्
तरकशौ तु मिपकपशोभनखगे र्ोटीश्वरं तन्िते,
चेत्पकपे तु सहस्त्रशः खलखगे तगुं ेऽमप र्ोटीश्वरि।् ।
Meaning: 'The units of brilliance for the seven planets are Sun-30, Moon-16, Mars-
6, Mercury-8, Jupiter-10, Venus -12, and Saturn-1. Take the Kalas of the lord of the
ninth from Lagna and the lord of the ninth from the Moon. Add them. Divide it by
twelve and take the remainder. Count the remainder from the Moon sign. This is
Indu Lagna. If there is a benefic without any malefic, the native become a multi-
millionaire. If there is a malefic, his wealth is in thousands only. If the malefic is
exalted, he will be multi-millionaire." In Uttara Kalamrita Indu Lagna has been
listed after 'Adhi Yoga' (Ch.IV.26) under the heading 'owning wealth.' followed by
'Dhana Yoga' (ch.IV.28) and 'Special Dhana Yogas'. This indicates that the result of
Indu Lagna is independent of other Dhana Yogas present in the horoscope.

Procedure for calculating Indu Lagna
As stated above, we have to note the lords of the 9th house from Lagna and also from
the Moon Lagna (Rasi). The Kalas (root numbers) for these two planets are noted from
above details and added. Their sum total is divided by 12. Ignoring the quotient, we
take the remainders. If the sum total of the two numbers is less than 12, then that
number is treated as remainder. Finally, we have to count the remainder number from
the Moon sign. The sign arrived at is called 'Indu Lagna'. when the remainder is 'Zero',
the sign before Moon sign is treated as Indu Lagna. When the remainder is 1, the Moon
sign becomes Indu Lagna; when the remainder is 2, then 2nd house from Moon sign
becomes Indu Lagna, and so on.
Analysis of Indu Lagna:
A summary of the views of Acharya Kalidas and other scholars is as follows:

• The quantum of wealth depends upon the natural disposition and strength of the
planet (s) located in Indu Lagna. The planet aspecting, and aspected by the planet in
Indu Lagna, also has a say in the matter.
• When a planet is situated in Indu Lagna, the Dasha period of that planet gives
wealth and prosperity.
• A benefic planet (Jupiter, Venus, unafflicted Mercury, or waxing Moon) Indu
Lagna gives very good wealth in the dasha-bhukti.
• If two benefic planets (Jupiter and Venus, waxing Moon, or Jupiter and Mercury)
occupy Indu Lagna, which also happens to be own sign (Swakshetra) or one of the
benefics located there, the dasha period of that planet gives excellent result and
makes the native very rich.
• An exalted benefic planet in Indu Lagna will give sudden enormous wealth during
its dasha-bhukti.
• If there is no planet in Indu Lagna, then the planet in Kendra or Trikona from Indu
Lagna, or aspecting it, will give prosperity in its dasa bhukti, commensurate with its
strength.
• A malefic planet in Indu Lagna gives moderate wealth. A benefic and a malefic
planet in Indu Lagna will give mixed result.
• But an exalted malefic in Indu Lagna gives very good wealth towards the end of its
dasha.
• Strong 2nd and 11th house from Indu Lagna also increases wealth manifold.

NOTE: (i)An unblemished benefic or an exalted malefic in Indu Lagna makes one a
multi- millionaire. If there is a malefic, his wealth is in thousands only.
(ii) The planets Rahu and Ketu are not used in this calculation.

3. Combinations for Penury (State of being very poor):

(i) Arishta Yogas
(ii) Daridra Yogas
(iii) Nirbhagya Yogas
Combinations or Yogas for Penury: Following are the general combinations:
a) 2nd Lord is debilitated or combust or is in Paapakartari.
b) Parivartana between 2nd & 12th lords or 9th & 12th lords or 1st & 12th Lords.

c) Occupancy of 11th lord in Dussthana or Dussthana lord in 11th House.
d) Kemadruma Yoga or Sakata Yoga will bring poverty or loss of money.

d.1)Kemadruma Yoga: This Yoga is formed when Moon is not having any planet on
either side or with it. Sun's presence and of course that of nodes, will not nullify the
Kemadruma Yoga. But if there is a planet in any of the Moon’s angles or from the
angles of Lagna, or if the Moon herself is angular to the Lagna, the Kemadruma Yoga
does not exist.
Other kinds of Kemadruma Yogas mentioned in Jataka Parijata which are: -
(i)The Moon in Lagna or the 7th house but not aspected by Jupiter.
(ii) All the planets devoid of strength and having less Bindus in Ashtakavarga.
(iii) Moon in case of a night birth if in fall or in enemy's Rasi/Navamsa and aspected by
the 10th lord.
(iv) Moon in Scorpio Navamsa joining a malefic and aspected by Lagna lord.
(v) The waning Moon in Neecha Rasi for a night birth.
Results: One born under Kemadruma Yoga, even if he belongs to a royal family, will
become unknown and will lead a miserable life. He will be addicted to immoral ways,
will face poverty, will be a menial and will be wickedly disposed.

d.2) Sakata Yoga: Moon in 12th, 8th or 6th house from Jupiter causes Sakata Yoga. It is
cancelled if the Moon be in a Kendra position from the Ascendant.
Results: Life will be full of ups and downs.

(i) ArishtaYoga: These are ill-Health Combination or Yogas leading to ill-health.

ArishtaYoga adversely modify the results of Raja Yoga as well as DhanaYoga.
Influence of malefic planets on the Ascendant & its Lord generally causes ill health
and disease and gives rise to Arishta Yoga.
In ArishtaYoga, Dusthana houses and their lords play a dominant role.
The Arishta Yoga generally rise from a mutual association of LL and Dusthana Lords.
If the LL/Moon is posited in 06th, 08th or 12th houses.
Lagna and its Lord in Paapakartari Yoga.

(ii) DaridraYoga: This will lead to penury and suffering. It is caused when the lord of
various houses starting from Ascendant occupy 06th/08th/12th House. As per
Phaladeepika, the yoga involving 11th house is known as Daridra yoga i.e., the lord
of 11th house in 06th/08th/12th houses.
Results: The native will contact huge debts, will be very poor, will suffer from
auditory troubles, will commit sinful and criminal deeds.
(iii) NirbhagyaYoga: This yoga concerns the 9th House (Bhagya). It is caused when
the lord of 9th House occupies or has connection with Dussthana house/lords.
Results: This will cause the native to lose all his paternal property. He will have no
regard for good people and elders and will be irreligious. He will be dressed in old
and worn-out clothes. He will be poor and miserable.
