iii Write the following equation in the form ax 2 + bx + c = 0, then write the values of a, b, c: x 2 + 5x
= – (3 – x)
iv What is the formula to find mean from a grouped frequency table?

Q.2(A) Complete the following activities. (Any two) (4)

i Complete the following activity; find the value of x:
5x + 3y = 9 …(i)
2x – 3y = 12 …(ii)
Add equations (i) and (ii)

x=

x=
ii Find the sum of all odd numbers from 1 to 150. For this complete the following activity.
Odd numbers from 1 to 150 are
1, 3, 5, 7, ..., 149
The above sequence is an A.P.
Here t1 = 1 , tn = , n = 75
Sn = …[Formula]
∴ S75 = (150)
∴ S75 =

iii Complete the following activity to find the value of discriminant of the equation x 2 + 9x – 10 = 0.
Solution:
Comparing x 2 + 9x – 10 = 0 with ax 2 + bx + c = 0
a = 1, b = 9, c =

∴ b 2 – 4ac = – 4 × 1 × (–10)
= 81 +
=

Q.2(B) Solve the following questions. (Any four) (8)

charged for this service.
iv Write sample space ‘S’ and number of sample point n(S) for each of the following experiments.
Also write events P, Q, R in the set form and write n(P), n(Q), n(R).
Two coins tossed simultaneously.
Condition for event P: To get head on both coins.
Condition for event Q: To get tail on first coin.
v Solve the following quadratic equation:
5m 2 + 2m + 1 = 0

Q.3(A) Complete the following activities. (Any one) (3)

i Solve the following equation by completing square method.
x 2 + 9x + 18 = 0
If, x 2 + 9x + k = (x + a)2
Then, x 2 + 9x + k = x 2 + 2ax + a 2
∴ a= , k = a2 =
Now, x 2 + 9x + 18 = 0
∴ –

∴ x = or x =
